That's because the other Disney world sites arent up-to-speed on things like we are ;)
Other Disney sites get their information from trolling this Disney site....

(I dont have evidence of this on hand, but I do remember a few instances of people getting quoted from their post)

Steve.... do you know if they will they be doing any work on the TTA while SM is down for refurb?

I am sure it could use some paint, the tunnels cleaned up a bit... etc

Yes! A bit of short term pain for long term gain. A light at the end of the tunnel.....but not too much of it:animwink:.......:sohappy:.........:p
It is a conspiracy I tell you! They just don't want guests looking at workers fixing track sections with duct tape and Mighty Putty!

Duct tape and mighty putty are probably the only things keeping SM standing right now... :lookaroun

There has been speculation that things may be done there as well, but as with the main SM refurb, things are very changeable. I really think this one will be a case of not being sure until it all reopens and we see what we get.

Surely.
Actually, we here are so up-to-speed we had April nailed down some time ago.
We're so up-to-speed we're in the future already....kinda....

Yep. The more time it stays closed, the better the refurb. Especially since a large portion of the early work will be purely...umm...non-show related. Don't want anyone getting mesothelioma...

How will this affect traffic in WDW and queues for the other "big" attractions? I don't know any numbers at all... how many people does SM put through in an hour? I would imagine having a major attraction such as SM down would direct more people to other attractions. And then if the TTA is down as well (again, I don't know numbers here) that would also have an effect, wouldn't it!?!

I'm glad it's going down for refurb... I know a lot of people around here have had their fingers crossed for quite some time... I hope you get what you want out of this refurb!

(To be honest, I'm a little more upset about the TTA going down  - it's just not a trip to WDW without a round on the TTA!)

LOL! My brother spends a lot of time in Chicago directing crews in HASMAT suits for a similar reason. 1972 construction. Glad to hear that Outer Space will be a healthier place!

It is good to see a major project finally comming to pass after many years of speculation and hope.

Here's to the hope that this project is long and large in scope, and when it is finished, it will bring many more smiles to us and the rest of the Disney loving public!

This along with notices of several other dates have made my day.

Let's see:

Small World: fixed
Pirates of the Caribbean: uh, sorta fixed
Haunted Mansion: fixed and bettered!
Jungle Cruise: sorta fixed? (not to sure on that one)
Country Bears: fixed
Hall of Presidents: being fixed
Splash Mountain: another annual refurb, how long will Br'er rabbit work this time?
Space Mountain: going to be fixed and bettered hopefully
Carousel of Progress: rumored to be fixed (just need a date for this one now) and bettered, some changes so far

Well lets' see what's left on my "want to get done" list for MK:

-new afternoon parade
-fix crappy attractions (UNM, Stitch etc)
-Build Mermaid
-put better things in the shops
-add and improve dining options
-new chain lifts for BTMRR (quieter ones please)
-Put a good show into the Diamond Horseshoe

Is it possible that the refurbishment could be done in stages to work around the busy holiday months as well as spring break? Maybe some of the absolutely necessary ride structure changes as well as preliminary work for more significant changes in the near future will take place?

Your absoluetly right. It's just that after the past ten years I don't have that much confidence in the management team at WDW. Afterall, Pirates refurb was nowhere near as good as we all thought it would be and the way people say it hear SpaceShip Earth's isnt even finished yet after beng open for months now.

Haunted Mansion enjoyed a good refurb/update but Space Mountain needs to be much larger in scope and I just hope Disney managment and WDI is up to the task. At a minimum it must be as good as Disneyland's!
Yep. Management still need that kick up the.....

Aspects of this rehab were decided unnessecarry until other influences interviened, and whilst a lot of the downtime will be used to as Lee said work on non-show aspects there will be some worthy additions. It won`t be as thorough as DLCs - again, thanks to TDO, but will be worth the lengthy downtime. WDI want to go much further, of course.

TDO realise taking the cheap option with PotC was a mistake. SSE however was a victim of scheduling and budget plus local insistance it opens for the Holidays. The additions that should become apparent soon are the result of 3rd shift only work, hence the length of time it has taken. If SSE closed again for a few weeks it could all be done, but since there is no chance of that scaffholding has to be carried in, rigged over the ride system, work done, scaffholding removed, areas cleaned and all equipment removed again - and all in the small timescale in the wee small hours the attraction is available each night, and not get in the way of regular day to day maintainence.

Nope.
After April 19 the ride will be completely un-openable until after the refurb.
