Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

...agree. 12 million can buy a lot of material, but if that number includes an actual construction contract I can't believe it would go very far. A nine month refirb would only give them 1.3 million per month burn rate. That can go quickly on a tight project site with multiple crews.

FYI- A typical construction project's materials are approximately 1/4 of the cost. Labor, profit, and other fees make up the rest.

Just in case some were wondering (and so ya'll know I'm not COMPLETELY full of hot air) In my non-Disney obsessed life I am an architect.

Ah, interesting. Maybe this is only part of it.

Nah, it won't be like that.
I do love that look, though. I've said for ever that they should put a roof over Avenue of the Planets and give it the Freemont St. treatment. (Moving stars, spaceships, planets and satelites floating by, etc.)

That's a cool idea. Make the land more like the poster for it.

Ive said it before, I havent had the privilege to see the SOARIN interactive queue since there is no wait in the seasons I go, but im curious to this in the SM queue. It is in a much more closed space. Typically people are talking amongst themselves. Ill be interested to see how this works.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that the entire queue layout changes? the queue for that ride isn't exactly set up intelligently since fast pass. It's also possible that it's something relatively simple like the interactive water screen at MCO airport where you wave your hand in front of it, and the water on the screen ripples.

Along those same lines, I was just in Disneyland and the queue for Indy is set up horribly. To effectively use fastpass, the bulk of the indoor queue is left empty, while standby passengers wait outside. Fastpass and stand by meet outside of the long indoor queue, and walk through it very quickly. They need to set this up so that fastpass meets up with standby right before the video room so that the standby line is in the indoor queue. It's one of the best queues that Disney has done, and you don't get to appreciate it.

I know it needed an overhaul, but the head says one thing and my heart and memories of Space since childhood say something else.

I'll be the first to admit that when I enter Space Mountain after the refurb and if I don't get to walk up the white Star Wars-looking qeue area with the cool musical loop and be able to stare on both sides of me at the stars, planets, and galaxies I will probably throw a major baby tantrum.

Well, of course I'll still go on and I won't show disappointment but...I mean I am a rational adult...sort of.

Sorry....I had to let that out.

When I was there I noticed that too. I'd rather wait in the detailed queue than the switchbacks that are in front of the temple.

And 12.3 million for Space... Does anyone know an accurate estimate of what the Haunted Mansion got for their refurb, or even what the Hall of Presidents is getting?

Where did that $12.3 million figure come from?
