Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

According to Ricky Brigante on the Inside the Magic podcast, they filed for a AV package for an interactive queue in Space Mountain, probably going to be similar to Soarin'.
Ive said it before, I havent had the privilege to see the SOARIN interactive queue since there is no wait in the seasons I go, but im curious to this in the SM queue. It is in a much more closed space. Typically people are talking amongst themselves. Ill be interested to see how this works.

I suppose they could somehow redo/rewiden the tunnels? But that work seems too extensive for Disney.

Its too bad thats the attitude we're left with these days. At some point in the past we might have said, "Ah, thats no problem! Its Disney! They'll do it because its good for the overall show!" Now, its, "Ah, thats too much work. They'll never do that." I'm not criticizing you personally, Conundrum, please don't misunderstand. Its just that we've come to expect so little from Disney these days. Kinda sad when you think about it... :(

This is probably a good clue that the queue will see significant change in both form and layout. If that layout is changing...

...could get exciting.

The only place I could see there being room for an "interactive queue" would be the area inside the dome that is rarely ever used. If this area is to be used, then it makes me wonder if they may try to operate with a Stand-by track and a FastPass track. I would think using the tunnel would only create further congestion.

I don't believe SM has the wait time issues that Soarin does..... of course, after the refurb, it probably will :)...

Maybe this will finally pull the wait times over at TSMM down? :) seems like the new attraction always holds that for a while..

Considering all the changes SM is receiving the post show and covered loading area are both overlooked. WHat is Disney going to do with both of them?

Maybe it will be something similar to this.

Nah, it won't be like that.
I do love that look, though. I've said for ever that they should put a roof over Avenue of the Planets and give it the Freemont St. treatment. (Moving stars, spaceships, planets and satelites floating by, etc.)

Well then!

The World Bazaar treatment. That would actually be really, really interesting. Wouldn't skew sight-lines either... If they were to make it flat you could still see AO for the most part.

Passed by SM a few more times recently.. nothing 'photo' worthy... or , nothing that hasn't been previously photographed.. just guys being bussed in and out... scafolding, etc..... of course, logic would have it that they are working on the areas nearest the TTA first... (main lift/loading queue area/post show)...

they could always tarp off areas that are under construction....

Where are the scafolds, BTW...? In the back?
If we need pics of anything, it's that.

So apparently, and I have no idea where this number came from so don't shoot the messenger, this refurb's budget is only 12.3 million.

Not sure if I would believe any price numbers I'm told or see. Those are usually very closely guarded. IF that number is accurate however, a lot of that budget is new track...also have to consider if th budget also includes payroll or not...

...agree. 12 million can buy a lot of material, but if that number includes an actual construction contract I can't believe it would go very far. A nine month refirb would only give them 1.3 million per month burn rate. That can go quickly on a tight project site with multiple crews.

FYI- A typical construction project's materials are approximately 1/4 of the cost. Labor, profit, and other fees make up the rest.

Just in case some were wondering (and so ya'll know I'm not COMPLETELY full of hot air) In my non-Disney obsessed life I am an architect.
