True. That is what i figured.

One question: What is in the blue section if the pink section is the lovely arcade? To be honest, I really never venture back in there.....

This photo confuses me. I thought the train went behind Space Mountain (clearly I don't ride it that often). Does the queue go under the train tracks, how does this work - what am I missing?

The train never went behind SM. It always went between the mountain and the entrance. The queue is partially underground.

The dip in the queue a little after the stairs go directly under the tracks.

Yes, the queue goes under the tracks. When you first enter the queue you go down steps to the main walkway and the walkway continues to descend a bit before leveling off and finally the grade kicks up to the control tower.

I definitely remember going in the late 90's and the whole of the power plant was packed with arcade machines. Nowadays of course, you would be hard pressed to pack a broom closet with new arcade cabinets.

They probably just started removing them as they needed repair/service and just never replaced them as there is nothing else to replace them with. That and more merch space is just as good to them I think.

If only they would actually put Space Mountain merch in there...

Hopefully after the refurb they will market SM a bit more....and with that come Merch.:D

I feel foolish for not knowing that. I guess I just never thought about it until seeing that aerial photo.

There's a discussion over at Inside the Magic that's discussing the Space Mountain queue layout, with the length of this refurbishment is there going to be a substantial change in the queue to allow for the use of switchbacks again? The idea that seems to be the most logical unfortunately requires two cast members. MS Paint Illustration below:

The past few times I was in Space they had switchbacks to the left (with a full queue)for standby and sinle line with no switchbacks on the right side for the FP's. One CM at the end of the tunnel checking FP's and controlling the line.

Is there something I am missing about them not using the switchbacks. I rememer hearing others say that the switchbacks are never used and haven't been for years.

Someone recently posted a more logical queue diagram recently which kept Standby and FP side-by-side as they entered the final queue room. The Standby line zig-zagged through both sides, while the FP line skirted around the outer-right side. Both lines met up and split at the top center area, with Alpha and Omega lines running along the back wall and down the sides.

Well...If they were to do that, it would mean a new looking queue...:D

I work late and the discussion gets interesting again....

here is the profile of the SM entry and exit tunnels (incidentally, they were built cut and cover - including removing and relaying the RR track - for the mountains construction) entry in purple, exit in blue:

So has anything of substance happened in the world of WDW in the past two days? I've been away...and I don't feel like reading through JT/Conundrum/74 arguments all night.
