I get your point but Kind of.... Tower of Terror at California Adventure was not change because it was unpopular. Perhaps this rumor would have more legitimacy if it had a better rumored motivation.

This isn't the Carousel of Progress. This is a super high capacity attraction that can still push a 45-minute wait in line on a nearly daily basis. There nothing to indicate that this attraction is unpopular. To start a rumor that based on how unpopular it was become immediately invalidates it.

Nothing from Tangled is even remotely as popular as It’s a Small World and it’s catchy theme song. There’s a reason why the only thing Tangled themed in the parks are washrooms.

By that way of thinking, Mary Poppins isn’t popular either. Or the Jungle Book. Or Sleeping Beauty. Or the Incredibles. The list goes on

I think you're being a little over the top here. The problem is actually that Bob Iger (I can't speak for Chapek) is a smart businessman. To him, it's all about selling the brand. He's making billions with Star Wars and Marvel, and both were brilliant acquisitions. The parks are just one part of the larger strategy. Also, It's a Small World is not going anywhere.

Actually you've accidentally swerved into the root of the problem at all the Disney parks. Too many attractions have become mired in sanctimony regardless of their actual entertainment value. Such attractions as Jungle Cruise, IASW, Tiki Room, CoP and CBJ should have all been removed and replaced years ago. Yet some fans have a devout, pious and fanatic attachment to these venues because they were touched by Walt Disney. Jungle Cruise, Enchanted Tiki Room, IASW and CoP all qualify to be included in the National Registry of Historic Places.
