Simon Cowell leaving American Idol

Death knoll, I believe.

Ellen, though I have my doubts about, could really bring some life back...THIS SEASON. Next, without a antagonist, I don't see this surviving long.

Shame...A few years ago, I really liked it. Now? Meh.

As for the attraction? Hope that goes with it, too.

This probably means nothing for the attraction. Disney likes to keep things outdated.

Ellen is great, love her. But I feel the show will now become a circus.

Ding dong that show is dead! The wicked show, the mean old show!

(I'm talking about the TV one, btw, not the DHS one).

As for the DHS show...I fear that once TV Idol starts to lose popularity, we're going to have that building complex be a ghost town yet again.

Bring on Phineas and Ferb!!!!!!!!!

You didn't even see it. You don't get to say squat about the show until you try it.

I saw it.

I don't pay to get into a theme park to watch flashy karaoke.

Perfectly Acceptable.

It's not my favorite, It's just hearing people who refuse to see it ticks off the dormant part of me that thinks it's not THAT bad...I've heard some great singers there too.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have it there than the nothingness that occupied that building before, but I'd really like to see that whole complex be built around something that, even if it's not timeless, would hold up better for 10-15 years.

Ala Phineas and Ferb(a cartoon that even if it ends in 4-6 years, offers a heck of a lot of entertainment, and the characters could just be thought of as park characters), or even a return to something like SuperStar TV.

The AIE is a harmless, well-done show that can be enjoyed in a short span of 45 minutes (at the most.) They should have done it years ago.

Cowell leaving is the end of TV Idol for sure though.

Ellen will bring a level of wit to the show that will far exceed anyone else on the show, but without the cynic I think it will be hard for the show to survive.

While I am excited to see Ellen come to the show, I hate to see Simon leave. He is one main reason that I watch it. I love hearing his comments.:lookaroun :ROFLOL:

I did go to the AIE @ HS and I loved it too. :D

I don't see how it would have any effect. None of the judges are a part of the show, if I recall correctly. As to its effect on the tv show, I would guess it depends on WHY people are watching. Do they watch it for him or for the talent.

The show is an hour long (sometimes 2 hours). How much of that is actual singing?

At the American Idol Experience, so much of that show is the production value of it, and the high energy participatory aspects of the show. For a 45 minute show, there's only about 6 minutes of actual singing.

The show is based on singing, but it wouldn't have the popularity it does if the show focused entirely on the singing.

For the tv version of Idol, I think they'll try to keep it on the air for a few more years, but Simon was the reason that show worked. Without him its done. That certainly doesn't mean that its over for the theme park show however. How long did millionaire go on after it was done on tv?

I think we'll continue to see it running in the theme parks for a few more years, and maybe we'll see some better prizes offered. I enjoy singing, I've thought about doing the show, but winning a chance to go on the real show doesn't interest me because I'm too old. If they gave away some kind of Disney prize for the winner of each show, even if it was something minor, then I'd be more interested. Maybe a t-shirt, a plastic American Idol trophy, and some some Disney dollars or something. That would make me want to enter possibly.

Idol is running in some variation in 42 different countries, Simon Cowell isn't a judge in the vast majority and they are still successful. Surprising as it may be, others have filled the role of caustic-wit judge and American Idol will likely [and probably quite easily] find an adequate replacement.
