Simon Cowell leaving American Idol

Its fine to talk about this, but honestly, until the show gets cancelled, there's not much reason to talk about the DHS version.

For Hollywood Blvd.? And you were the one criticizing me for wanting the volcano attraction in ALand?

:brick:

The left side of the building(Sounds Dangerous) would be a perfect place for it, yes. The other side(As I said in one of my other posts, if you would read them), said that a reimagining of Super Star TV.

Why when there is a section for the park already dedicated to Disney animation?

Animation courtyard is pretty full, and something would have to be taken out for something to be put in.

Just watched an article about this on FOX news, they say Cowell is leaving so he can launch the X-factor here in the US. (which IMO is a 100% better show, with a lot more diversity as there is no age limit plus groups can audition.) They are also reporting it will air on Fox. Reading between the lines this could mean the end of American Idol TV show, and could possibly lead to a rebrand of the AIE, rather losing it all together.

Yea, but you never said that- you just said 'or Superstar Television'. Just take your punishment, so I can bring this up whenever you disagree with the volcano? k?

Yep, he's planning to bring us X-Factor.

IMO, this proves what many of us said in the first place when AIE opened at DHS: even though the theme park attraction is surprisingly good, they waited too long to create it. Once Simon leaves, AI will be as pop-culture dead as Survivor.

As long as the DHS show has Simon Needham in it (he now goes by SJ), it will do fine. As the caustic-wit guy on the show, he does a bang-up job of adding punch to the judges. As noted earlier, it's the entertainment surrounding the singers (production values, high energy) that give the show its kick, not the relationship to the TV show judges. In fact, the only "celebrities" touted are Seacrest and several AI winners, none of which has to change if a judge leaves. The preshow ("other door") could get dated, I suppose, but it's easy enough to stitch together a new one.

I like the TV show but HATE the attraction and never plan on seeing it again. Honestly the best thing about the whole attraction is the name "Superstar Television Theater". The attraction will probably see attendance drops after Simon leaves because the nation will pretty much be done with the show.

I agree with most of you...AI will not survive without Simon as a judge...Ellen will be a great addition, but without the crazy man the show is doomed! But honestly, the show has been going downhill for years now. I am not sure what disney will do with its attraction but if they do change it they should make it into a SO You Think You Can Dance show! That show is super popular and better than Idol :) the dancers need love too! Or maybe change the attraction to a variety show with sing, dance, etc...i like either idea but my initial choice is a So You Think You Can Dance show! :)

This probably means nothing for the attraction. Disney likes to keep things outdated.

Ellen is great, love her. But I feel the show will now become a circus.

The show will become a bit more crazy with Ellen, but I don't think it will be quite a circus! Ellen will just bring the comedic flair that Idol needs. And ya, Disney really loves outdated rides and I don't know why :brick:

Sadly, I could see American Idol winding down within 2 to 3 years. Unless Fox can re-invent AI, I think it will decline in the ratings and eventually be canceled. Likewise, I think the AI attraction will quickly decline in popularity if the show disappears. I could see Disney doing 1 of 3 things:

1. Getting rid of the attraction all together, and using the stage for special shows/events, etc

2. Keeping the attracting but re-naming/re-theming it so it doesn't have ties to AI

3. Letting it sit as "American Idol Experience" well beyond the time it should. 15 years from now it will still be there and we'll still be saying, "Remember that show American Idol that was popular in the 2000s?"

Unfortunately, Disney is not quick to stay with the flow of things, and I could easilly see option 3 being the more likely one.

Around 40 countries run versions of Idol without Simon Cowell... Quite successfully.

What makes Americans so myopic?

It's not just the Simon thing, but the fact that the show has already been running for 8 seasons. That's a really long stretch for a show to remain so popular. Its popularity has been waning the past few years. With the shakeup of judges, now to include Simon, it seems like its diminishing popularity will only continue. Simon's departure would just be a catalyst in making that happen even faster.

Of course, if the show continues to be even slightly profitable for Fox, it will continue for years to come. And knowing the way TDO operates, and the $$ that was spent on this show, I would doubt it's going away any time soon, no matter how lame/tired/unpopular it seems in a few years.

THis does't effect me.. Its a Show I don't watch , featuring people I do not care about, Singing songs I don't like for a chance to make an Album I will not buy... I hope this means the end of American Idol.... As for the attraction I do not think it will effect it at all

A replacement of Simon would not only need to have his menacing/contrarian presence but his actual ability to know talent. This is not an easy fix.

As it stands now, the only way to watch this should is through a DVR. I have to have the ability to fast forward past all the ridiculous amount of commercials and inane comments by the other judges and Ryan.

The show is eminantly doomed, with Simon leaving and Ellen in, they have finally jumped the shark.

so what if X-Factor takes off...they'd only have to change a few parts of the attraction and turn it into that.

I was thinking about that too.

You know I'm starting to think that after the success of Susan Boyle, I think X Factor could be as big as AI once it comes to the USA.
