I know everyone has different opinions, but I would love for you to share yours with me. I am a teacher so we are limited to when we can travel. Which time would you prefer to go -

August 2009 - We would go at some point in the last two weeks. We have gone this time before and found the crowds have not been too bad as many places have gone back to school. It was very hot though!

February 2010 - President's Week - We have never gone this time, but expect it would be very crowded. Not sure what kind of weather to expect. Someone told me to consider that week is Mardi Gras - what affect would this have on Disney?

I would love to hear your thoughts, I am so bad with decisions!

As much as the weather is brutal that time of year, I would vote for August. Presidents week is nuts...and it can be cold and yucky. I have done both times of year in the past and I much prefer the end of August. Just watch out if free dining comes along...the crowds can get pretty heavy.

Another vote for August, here.

As a native floridian the weather in February is just too unpredictable for me (hot and cold, Florida can never make up its mind!). Of course, in that spectrum, always keep in mind that August is during the 'peak' of hurricane season.

But in total, for crowds and weather I would go for August, I have had some great experiences with low crowds that time of year!

We've gone in the last two weeks in August and we love it. It is not as crowded as June and July but yes it is hot, but we are from southern NJ and humidity is what we know so the Florida heat doesn't bother us as badly. Enjoy planning your trip!

I have to chime in for the August trip. We just had our first August WDW vacation this year, and it was great. We came down the last week of August and the crowds were pretty light, plus the weather--while very hot--was predictable, so we were able to pack very lightly. We also could take advantage of the pool and water parks, which is hard to do in February!

I understand your pain. My husband and I are teaachers, too. Our breaks here are NEVER long enough to travel to WDW (except for the summer). We've been in July and June. In 2006, the week after the 4th was awesome (as hard as that is to believe). The temperature was hot, but not scorching, and the crowds were okay. In 2007, the week after the 4th was MISERABLE. It was HOT:fork: and crowded. I swear there were at least 8 tour groups there. One day, when we were in line at Epcot, a couple from Michigan was talking to us about the crowds. This was the first year they hadn't come in June. They swore this was their last July trip and suggested going in June to us. After the 2007 trip, my husband and I were seriously considering skipping a couple of years. That trip was a disaster in so many ways. However, my husband, being the wonderful and brilliant man he is, convinced me to go again in June of 2008. We booked at POR again (the BEST part of our 2007 trip) for June 14-26. (We ended up upgrading to the WL because we had some extra money. That was the best decision we ever made!) That was a WONDERFUL trip. The temperatures were nice and the crowds were great (for the summer). Only one tour group was there (or at least we only saw one) and it was well- behaved.
So, my advice is this. Even though you didn't mention July, I can't stress this enough - avoid July at all costs. Anytime has to be better than July. February will have unpredictable weather and probably be crowded that week. I would be wary of August because of tour groups. Most of them leave in July, but someone once told me they hang around in August for a few days. But, with that said, if I had to pick between that week of February and August, I'd go with August. However, and many people will disagree with me on this one, if June is an option for you, I'd go then.

We were there for a over the course of 2nd and 3rd weeks in August (because we travelled with teachers). We noticed a drop off in the 3rd week. So the later the better.

I would avoid February. Alot of people have that week off from schools and people tend to flock to WDW when scholls are not in session.

I have to give another vote for August. The week in February you are looking at will be slammed with people. Not Easter or Christmas slammed, but still crowded. Also, I have never found the heat to be bad on any of my trips (this includes the summer months). If you are from the deep south, south Georgia here, the heat might not be a big deal for you.

Go in August

Besides the weather issue, the parks are not open as long every day in February. In August the park hours are longer especially the first week of the month. Taking your mid day break to get out of the heat, doesn't lose you time in the park, and a long day is easier to manage. Maybe it is an illusion, but to me in August you get more Park for your bucks!

August. As long as you are prepared for the heat, this month is preferable to the crowds during a holiday week.

We're in a similar boat. My wife's a teacher in the Northeast. Late August is brutally hot, but the crowds are more manageable. Take advantage of EMH so at the very least, you're out of the sun. On the plus side, since Labor Day in 2009 will be as late as it gets, 9/7, you can go early in September, too. Not much difference in weather, but every little bit helps.

If it were me, I would go for August. I have gone in June, July, September, and October and don't have a problem with heat, but get tired of the crowds. Last month we happened to go the week of a teacher conference here in Minnesota. Flights were packed big time.

I would go in August - mostly b/c it sounds like a two week vaca vs. a one week. And i'd rather be there longer.

When to go!!!?

august......august.....AUGUST!!!! :D

A fellow teacher who has experienced but dates you stated. AUGUST yes hot, possible tropical storms or worse BUT not the crowds like President's Week. Easter time can be a good time IF our vacation does not coincide with the actual Easter Sunday event. Schools vary, our Easter vacation period is always the third week of April. Have fun:wave:
