Rumor: Disney World Indiana Jones Show Closing To Make Room For Star Wars

Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
Disney cares deeply about what Comcast is doing in their parks, just as they do Sea World, maybe even Busch Gardens or any other competitor but that does not mean they will or should react suddenly to anything the competition does. Disney is the market leader by a very wide margin, their core audience believes they are the best and will pay a significant premium to take a vacation to WDW right now. Being a market leader, which is also near their maximum capacity right now brings a specific set of problems that adding new attractions to will hurt the business long term.

Magic Kingdom has capacity problems routinely therefore they added more space, dining with a small expansion of ride capacity and are now focusing on how to get all those paying guests into and out of the park. Everyone visits MK when they come to WDW regardless of what the other parks offer therefore they have to shore up the infrastructure to handle the load or they will make all their customers angry which results in losing customers. The boat dock expansion, monorail automation, hub redesign, FL expansion, MS bypass, and additional bus stops show that Disney believes they need more infrastructure capacity to support all the new guests they expect to bring in over the next few years. Heck, I would even throw in the much hated MM+ as part of the overall infrastructure expansion to help with guest management.

I hope they build a completely immersive SW land more than most I would guess but would prefer it is done right. Not close, not piecemeal but RIGHT the first time with no phase 2 planned and fill guests with excitement and wonder. Whatever they build it needs to accommodate young and old alike. Not just the thrill rides adults and teenagers like but attractions that all ages can enjoy, especially the next generation of SW fans, the 7-14 year old that is watching the cartoons, seeing the new movies in the theaters and buying all those action figures that generate huge amounts of revenue. The gift shops need to expand to add more items like the build your own R2 units, light-sabers and such, make these shops the ONLY place you can get certain items and make them special to the guests that purchase them. Any restaurant cannot simply be a M&G, it must be completely themed, they hit the nail on the head with BoG. So much so my 17yo son (who doesn't really like BatB) wants to eat there constantly, when he isn't begging for a pork shank but that is another story. If it is the rumored Cantina, it better have an AA band and a seedy bar. I want to see where Han shot Greedo, I would pay a premium to sit there because it is a major part of my childhood memory. The entire back could be a restaurant that offers special foods but the entrance better look and feel just like the movie, no droids allowed! Maybe even have a land speeder out front for guest photos with PhotoPass.

HAHA WHAT?! that's like saying spaceship earth isn't safe.

or the BAH that's blocking it? ;) If the BAH could be removed, why not the theater? The Chinese Theater is not Spaceship Earth, it's just a replica of a famous theater in California. If the Great Movie Ride goes, why would the theater survive as well? It makes perfect sense to me that it could get cut. No one can see it now without getting a massive crick in their neck. Would anybody really miss it from the general public? I just realized the other day that the BAH's been there longer now as the park icon than the theater was ... think about that for a second ...

I don't get that. Why would WDW stop Star Wars Weekend just becuase they have more star Wars rides. They could and I hope would continue to have the stars of the movies come and talk about them. One has nothing to do with the other.

I don't get that either. I would think it would be the exact opposite - there would be more draw for Star Wars Weekends.

In all honesty, they could change the concept and make it like a cross between Flower/Garden Festival and ComicCon. It could last a month and they would have guest speakers, meet and greets, sneak peeks at new movies, additional food and merch. Add some special decorations to the area. It would be a big draw to the park, much like Epcot gets a draw from its festivals.

ok, i amend my earlier statement, that disney may CARE, they just wont rise to 'the my coaster is bigger than your coaster' battles that parks like UNI and SixFlags do... and they certainly are not being reactionary, not building because the attraction count went up down the street. they build what they want when they want it to be done, IMHO

First off, I think it is safe to say Disney makes a fortune off of Star Wars Weekends.

If they did do a Star Wars Land, I am guessing it would be a huge project unlike anything we have ever seen before. It would be most likely complete with a Millennium Falcon Meet and greet with Characters everywhere walking around. With Star Wars themed restaurants, rides, shows, parades and other interactive stuff all around the land.

If a Star Wars Land is around 24/7 in Hollywood Studios with everything that is listed above, would that then bring down the attendance to Star Wars Weekends? And if so, would Disney then even want to build a land that would bring down the profits from the weekend.
I really don't think that would be the case, the celebrations or SWW are about fans getting together, hearing from actors, writers, directors, parades, and other special events. With all the new content it looks like Disney is adding to the Star Wars universe I think they can add to all the parks, and even expand the weekends to more than DHS, if they want. The fans will come, in my opinion,

All that proves is that temporary eyesores at WDW don't stay temporary these days.

The hat is far more likely to be removed because its is (or at least was intended to be) a temporary placeholder. Every park has an icon at the hub and the Chinese Theater is DHS's. No one can see it because they dumped a big blue hat in front of it and never bothered to remove it when then 100 Years Celebration ended; if they do actually do the the right thing and finally get rid of it then no one will have any problem seeing the Theater or be in any danger of cricking their neck to do so.

There is no sense at all in "cutting it", there is plenty enough for Disney to be getting on with at DHS without needlessly cutting the park's icon that they've needlessly hidden from view for years through their own ineptitude and laziness.

@Steel City Magic is right, if the Theater isn't safe then why should central icons like Spaceship Earth and Tree of Life by considered safe? The only difference between the three is that the latter two haven't had an eyesore dumped in front of them for years.

You just answered your own question. The theater has been blocked longer than it hasn't been blocked, that's why. Why would that be considered safe if no one can see it?

Well then move the bloody hat like it was supposed to have been years ago. Its a really, really simple solution, Disney are just taking a ridiculously long time getting around to actually doing it.

Have you considered that the hat may, in fact, BE the icon at the hub, not the theater?
