Rumor: Disney World Indiana Jones Show Closing To Make Room For Star Wars

Have you considered that the hat may, in fact, BE the icon at the hub, not the theater?

Yes and to be fair it would be an appropriate icon for the park right now because it sums up the thematic mess that DHS has become today. The theater and the Earful Tower are far better icons because they encapsulate the original intention of the park in celebrating Hollywood. The hat just encapsulates how little care and attention the park has gotten in the last few years, it was put there to mark the 100 Year's Celebration more than a decade ago and they just never bothered moving it. Thankfully they did get round to taking that wand off the top of Spaceship Earth.

I think the problem with the theater being the icon is that it's not a Disney original icon like Cinderella castle, Spaceship Earth and Tree of Life. The Earful Tower is better as the ears on it give it some originality but doesn't offer that WOW factor the other icons do.

Judging by the merch, the earful tower seems to be the official icon of the park now.

That's only a "problem" if they're concerned about licensing the image and selling merch.
Thematically and aesthetically it's not a problem at all.

With Disney now owning the Indiana Jones brand I have to wonder why they would simply remove the show. Their are rumors of a 5 and 6th movie coming in the future, would be dumb to completely remove a franchise they plan to make big again. I could see this happening after an Indy ride comes to Animal Kingdom or some other presence is created but not without any other plans in place. Star Wars is big and I want them to make a land but I'd hope they would be looking at the future a bit more and know what their movie plans are to help with cross marketing and what's in at the moment.
I wish I could say I agree with you on this but your referencing the wrong franchise. The money disney hopes/plans to make from the upcoming Star Wars trilogy and the planned spinoffs to come inbetween is all the reason Star Wars land makes more sense then continuing(or hoping to revive) the Indiana jones marquee. The long term investment value from star wars land just makes more sense which is all the more reason I shake my head everytime I see updates on avatar land. How many baffoons in a room agreed on that magical idea?

If I were on google maps where would I look to see the expansion pad?

I think it's the tree covered area south of the POTC show building. Would need a long queue like the one at DLR for IJ to get to it.

There's also a small expansion pad in Adventureland next to the treehouse.

You are correct on the available space. More so the first than the latter.

Yeah and that was only because of Siemens, not so much Disney. And here we are still looking at that hat thing,,and its fantastic crappy stage and cheap dj shows and horrible entertainment,,,
the park really is a mess and yeah thematic mess, and needs new management from high up to down low. Your post sums it all up just right really.

Well then move the bloody hat like it was supposed to have been years ago. Its a really, really simple solution, Disney are just taking a ridiculously long time getting around to actually doing it.
I like whoever said move it to the front of the Fantasmic theater. At least then we'll have ONE thing there guaranteed not to break down or go awry during the show lol.
