Rumor: Disney World Indiana Jones Show Closing To Make Room For Star Wars

Too bad they cant scrap the Avatar Land project and just focus on Star Wars.

Too bad they aren't actively constructing both projects right now. No reason they should have to pick and choose.

Meh. If there's one thing Hollywood Studios doesn't need it's probably a second coaster.

While they absolutely need more family friendly/all access type rides, another thrilling E-ticket type would be valuable as well. And, honestly, they need to have some big draw anchor attraction as the anchor of the land -- yes, that wouldn't have to be a thrill ride but often that is what fits the bill.

Fair enough.

The description Jim Hill gave of the Star Wars coaster is better than nothing. But in a park that already has Disney's only other "real coaster", I think there are probably better directions to go. Don't get me wrong, I'd ride the heck out of it. But I think the Speeder Bike thing is probably a better fit.

So Lebeau, you would be against me at the board meeting, I'm not surprised. It's rare I ever see you positive about anything, not saying it doesn't happen but man you are hard to please. Feel sorry for the person who draws you for a Christmas gift :)
Me: "Lebeau, I was so excitied to draw you this Christmas...what do you think about my gift"?
Lebeau: "Ummm...Meh, I have one in my closet collecting dust"!

I'm just playing around by the way.

So, now it's your turn. Lights are on you now and what would you come up with to excite the Walt Disney Board?

The speeder bike is still a coaster, no? I'm not sure I see much of a difference.

Anyhow, I think if they wanted to go with the idea Jim Hill mentioned, I think that instead of the "choose your own adventure" setup, it would make sense to either (1) alternative vehicles between "dark side" or "light side" much like is done at RSR with Luigi's vs Ramone's or (2) have two different tracks that interact kinda like the Matterhorn/WDW's Space, potentially with separate queues/lines like the Matterhorn. Option #2 would allow people to still "choose" their own experience and the different queues could be set up with propaganda for the Rebel Alliance or the Empire.

lol - I buy my own Christmas gifts!

:hilarious:

If you read my trip report, you'll see I'm a pretty big Disney World fan. But my posting style leans towards being critical/snarky. I find "Disney is awesome" posts to be kind of dull. I may seem hard to please, but in reality I am not.

I'm not into armchair imagineering. So I won't attempt to wow the Disney board. If Disney moves forward with Star Wars land as we all assume they will eventually, they should definitely include an e-ticket attraction.

My hope is that they use any expansion to address some of the problems at Hollywood Studios. The park needs rides desperately. So almost any ride would be welcome. But it needs rides without height restrictions most of all. It needs thrill rides less than any other type of ride.

Doesn't mean I oppose a thrill ride at Hollywood Studios. I think one could and probably should be included in a Star Wars land. But I wouldn't want to duplicate what we already have in the park. If they build a coaster, it should be substantially different from Rock'n'Rollercoaster. The park doesn't need another drop ride or Star Wars-themed motion simulator either.

It's not that the Star Wars coaster sounds like a bad idea to me. It's just not what I think the park needs.

Well, I don't know much about either proposed ride. But the Speeder Bike thing sounds less coastery to me. There weren't a lot of high drops in the speeder bike scene in Return of the Jedi. So I assume a Speeder Bike ride would be more about speed and maybe sharp turns. I'm guessing it would have less of a height restriction than something that is described as a Star Wars coaster.

I could be wrong. But that is the perceived difference that makes me lean towards the Speeder Bike over the shelved coaster.

Ideally, I want a Pixar Place expansion in addition to Star Wars. That would allow Star Wars land to concentrate more on thrills while PP took care of family attractions.

Well, that would all depend on the execution. I totally agree with you that another 48" thrill ride is not a good idea for DHS. But I think they could definitely execute the "dueling" Star Wars coaster in a way that could make it a 40" or 42" ride -- which I think is what they should aim for with any thrill ride in SW. Not anything hyper intense.

That said, I think the speeder bike vehicle would require people to be in a somewhat prone position to simulate the "riding a bike" effect. If so, it wouldn't surprise me if that configuration played havoc on trying to have a shorter height requirement.

Certainly would be fine with this. Personally, I think the #1 priority right now for DHS should be to build a family dark ride (like a copy of either TDL or DCA's Monsters Inc rides) in Soundstage 1 to help with capacity and provide something for all ages.

In terms of Star Wars, I would think that even if there is a larger thrilling ride to anchor the land, that there needs to be at least one mild family friendly ride (preferable a dark ride but possible a quality flat ride like Mater's) that children can enjoy. I also think attractions like a plussed indoor Jedi Academy or a walk through of the Millennium Falcon would be good because all could enjoy them.

Too bad, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular was my absolute favorite growing up, hate to see it go. Any ideas on the type of star wars attractions are coming in? Hopefully some kind of thrill ride....

Pretty much 100% agree.

If Disney were to bother with Star Wars Land... it'd need Mos Eisley Cantina, Jabba's Palace, the Milennium Falcon, a spinner, E ticket similar to Twister ride system, family dark ride, new facade for Star Tours, Potter level theming and an expanded Jedi Training Academy to be worth it.

You're right....What it really needs is a second, third, fourth and fifth coaster.

DHS is uniquely positioned to be WDW's thrill park – something the resort desperately needs to draw in adults and teens. Adding more coasters would be exactly what DHS and the resort needs.

Agreed!!

MK is already the kids/family park, AK and Epcot are fairly all-ages... DHS appeals mostly to adults to begin with so no reason to make it a kids park.

You can add a few dark rides, maybe a spinner, a new show, but E ticket thrill rides are DHS's bread and butter. 2 of Disney World's 3 truly "scary" rides (ToT, RnRC, and Space Mountain) are here. That's part of its appeal - it's not MK and never will be. It's a way to make sure teens have a good time

I'm going to agree to disagree with you here.

Maybe Disney should be pursuing that demographic, but they certainly aren't going to.

Do you not consider EE to be a coaster? Just curious as to why.

Completely agreed! I think with the FLE it created MK to be a even better family park but that's it just family. I think Epcot is a great family park but it has something that appeals to all ages and AK is so lowly but surely adding enough items to become an all day/ all ages park. But I think to fight fire with fire (meaning universal vs DHS) I think we need to offer an appeal of Star Wars because if anything is different but just as fun and entertaining than Harry Potter it would be Star Wars!

And what does Universal offer more than Disney? It's the thrill rides that get that demographic that we miss out a lot on. I think this is the time where we should see a Pixar expansion in DHS for the family side of the park but I think Star Wars Land has the potential to keep the adults and teens there all day.

But that's just me I'm also a huge Star Wars fan.

One plus of adding a coaster (whether wild or mild) is that they could expand outside the current perimeter of the park without necessarily disturbing access roads or cast buildings. The entrance could be in the main park, but the actual bulk of the ride could be outside the park. I know they sometimes do that kind of thing when adding coasters to Six Flags parks.

Personally, I'd love to see another e-ticket in the park. Preferably not a simulator, which I think has been a bit overdone in the Disney parks (though I'm biased because they give me motion sickness...hehe). Anything to bring more attractions to that park is a plus.

Not a "real coaster". If you stripped it of the theme and put it in Six Flags, no one would ride it. In terms of thrills, it's a step or two up from Big Thunder which my kids will ride. EE is a good ride (better when the yeti worked) but if you're judging it purely as a coaster, there's not a lot there.

I don't hold that against the ride. I have lots of white knuckle coasters in my back yard. I don't go to Disney for the coasters.
