Aw man, I liked my green boxes. I was almost up to 3!

Its a shame some people had to spoil it for the rest of us.

Ah.. just as I got my third green box...

Well... I was against it in the begining, but recently I grew rather fond of it. I liked the fact that you could see if a person was liked or disliked... Like, for example, someone with 75 posts and two green boxes obviously contributed more, while someone with 5,000 posts and only one green box was someone who just posted to hear themselves talk...

While it didn't always work perfectly, I found that a few green boxes (about 3 or more) was enough to confirm that a post was indeed true (like, if they posted a rumor)..

Its not a big deal, though :) It seems to be making a lot of people happy, so I guess Steve made the right choice :)

What about a rep system where you can only give positive points, and nothing else? That way you could still tell if a person was legitimate, and you could still have a way to say "I appreciate what you did/said" but not "I hate you because we disagree".

Positives only, that's my theory!

It's a tiny baby incentive for those of us who like a little positive reinforcement to keep us going.

Who's with me?

Unfortunately you will still get arguments about cliques just donating rep to one another and using it as a popularity contest. Much as I liked the idea, it was messed up by abuse.

As stated before, this "positive-only" system would still create problems. Just as the system was abused by handing out too many red boxes on purpose, green boxes were also handed out gratuitously (I'll admit to being guilty of that at times myself). This would only bring about the problem again. If Steve got rid of the system, I don't think he should bring back half of it because it can supposedly create more positivity. Let's just move on and continue posting for our love of Disney and otherwise. I was a member when the system was not in place and everything went smoothly. Let's not have a heart attack because it's gone now.

Man, I'm away for a few days and....
Sorry to see it go, but I understand that it rubbed some the wrong way and may have been a tad abused
Thought it had been settling down as of late....
Guess we'll have to find something else to drive Steve crazy....and I have full faith that we will

Glad to see it go. Even though I never got a negative rep I was just ALWAYS afraid to post, honestly, in fear that some troll would come ninja-neg rep me. :(

The only repuation system that can work on a forum is one that is controlled by the moderators only, and maybe a few "select" others. I suppose you can make it a Premium Member perk. Giving everyone the power to do it doesn't work though. The reason why you have to give it to a few is that the people "in charge" generally know what they are talking about, and if a post is good or not. With the old system, you can have someone with 3 posts giving a little gray green or red box. They have no idea how this forum works yet, so they shouldn't have that power. I would say giving the power to the Premium Members is ok, because they paid to support the site, so they are less likely to abuse it.

And you have to keep the "anonymous" factor out of it. If someone is going to say "you're a bad person" they should have to show their face.

Soooo...let me get this straight...

...You want the people who have all the money, to have all the power.

WOW...for some reason this sounds familar. I KNOW I've seen this concept before some where...but where?

Eh- PMs could abuse it just as easily as anyone else. Anyone can pay $5 and be a PM. It's not the same as moderators, who are specifically chosen for their fairness and dedication.

I agree. There are some PM's that abused the system just like, if not more, than non-PM's. I agree with the idea of moderators having this power, though.
