See what happens when I go away for the week?!?!?!

The "rep" system came in while I was out of town...
Then it went away while I was out of town.

Hmmmm.............

Nah....no coincidence! :lookaroun

HAHA! I never got to enjoy the arrival OR the departure of the point system, but I'll drink to them on their journey back from whence they came!

Alas, Rep points....we hardly knew ye!

The scene: Exterior back alley, day. the area is littered with old newspapers and whiskey bottles. A disheveled man, played by brkgnews, sits on the concrete, leaning against a rain gutter.

Brkgnews: You shoulda seen me, kid. I was somebody once. I was THAT close to having two stars on wdwmagic. Then they go and pull the rug out from under me! O' Cruel Fate! Why must thou mock me!?!?!?!?!?

Annnnndddd, scene!

It's just as well. Some folks were being real tools about it.
Thanks for the laugh, that was pretty funny. I was just starting to remember to actually leave rep points. Also, I finally thought to even look to see how many points I have (didn't have). Oh well.

Dagnabbit, and I was so close to that first LIGHT green box (you know, the one you got after you earned a few MEDIUM green boxes...)

*sob*

But seriously, folks, I just thought my computer wasn't loading ANYBODY's little green boxes any more!

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
I am kinda glad to see it go. :sohappy:

Some folks started to nail me as soon as the rep system went live.... they actually went to some of my rather old posts at the time... and nailed me. I knew then it was going to be pain... and wished the rep system a quick death. :( I was nailed (red) mostly for posting a contrary opinion against the "popular" idea... gripe... suggestion... etc. How fair is that? :veryconfu

Anyway... Time to move on... to happier things. :sohappy:

Personally I'm glad the rep points are history.

While the idea itself in theory was a good one, the system was abused.

At times, I felt that if I even so much disagreed with this sites more "Popular" people, I would get bombarded with negative reps.

I started holding back my opinions and eventually wouldn't even bother to respond with my thoughts when some of the more high profile members posted their thoughts and ideas.

Now I can say how I feel and what I think without fear of negative rep points and little red boxes...Thanks Steve...for taking the time and effort to give it a try.

Good move. I didn't find the rep thing to be working like it should have. I got a few negative points solely because somebody disagreed with what I said and not on the quality or accurateness of the post and wouldn't even have the nerve to explain why or who they were. In theory it was a good idea to let newcomers know who to trust and who not to trust, but it was so badly abused it became a joke. Thank you Steve.

aw...it is sad to see them go and I was getting SO close to gaining my second square! Oh well. I do like the idea of JUST being able to give Positive rep. points, but I understand if the idea didn't work out.

How on earth are we going to know who's talking cr*p
Personally - I'm glad to see them go (it was a good idea and worth trying it) as the system wasn't fool proof

The same way we did before. Most of us who have been around here awhile know who we can trust for good info and a decent conversation (occasional bad days aside).

I appreciated you giving it a try. I believe if it hadn't been abused it would have been a great asset to the boards. It was nice to be able (in one click)to let someone know that I enjoyed reading what they posted (because a lot of people actually do put some thought and effort into a post, instead of just boosting their post count), or to say thanks for some information someone had provided, without having to make a post or send a pm. I noticed that a lot of people (and many weren't even pml members) made very good and interesting posts, and I liked being able to say "Thank you for making the boards better" to those people. I guess I'll just have to go back to pm's, or posting to a thread. It was just a simple way to say thanks to someone. I'm sorry it had to be abused, just like many of the post counts are being abused now.

Steve, you have a great site here, and I've always thought these were the best boards, with the best information online. I'm just sorry that a few have to ruin the purpose of the rep points for everyone. I think it was a good idea if it would have been used for the purpose it was intented for. I applaud you for continuing to find ways to make the boards better :sohappy:

Yay! Steve, would it be an option to bring back positive rep point-ing? (Only positive) In theory, you could then still use the part of the system we all seemed to enjoy while eliminating the half that appeared to cause most of the problems.

I Like this idea also. I Loved when there was a great post, being able to send a little something to someone saying thanks. I imagine it wouldn't be possible to do only half of it. It was probably part of the program. Good idea though.

I expect that the argument would raise it's head again that some people were using it as a popularity contest and the accusations of cliques would fly around again.

We can still express thanks in the treads and via private messages though :D

I'm sure your right. I was meaning not even seeing the little boxes at all, just a quick way to click on the rep thing, but the person would have to check their cp to see their message (basically same as pm just faster). That way the whole popularity thing would stay out of it. Anyone who's been a member here for very long knows that the popularity thing and little cliques changes from year to year or month to month depending on whats going on. The important thing is the boards stay informative and interesting, and if a few feel better knowing their part of a clique, then good for them (as long as that doesn't disrupt the boards). But I feel wdwmagic isn't about cliques and popularity, it's about all of our Love for Disney, and a place to find the best information for those of us who need our Disney Fix. :)
