Replacing Downtown disney/pleasure island?

I know a lot of you love the AC and it sounded cool but the problem with PI is the club scene and Disney go together like water and oil. Face it the main reasons people got to clubs is to get drunk and get some. A lot of people were put off by it and there where obviously more way more peolple that were put off than liked it, otherwise it would still be opened.

Huh? Thats not the only reason to go to clubs.. I honestly went to pleasure Island for the Comedy Warehouse ... Not going there to get drunk, although I did enjoy a few libations while I was there. And if I did venture into the clubs that were there I did so because I enjoyed the music. Besides with the price that disney charged for the drinks it would be a very expensive venture for me to get drunk :ROFLOL:

1. Disney Bowling Alley
2. Comedy Warehouse...with actual Stand-ups that tour...not "family-ised."
3. Adventurer's Club
4. One giant nightclub with different floors playing different types of music
5. An F1 type karting venue.
6. ESPN Zone
7. Raglan Road
8. Classy Billiard's Hall

This has a little for everyone...and is more "adult-based" without focusing the entire evening around alcohol!

For those that don't know what F1 karting is... here's a vid.
The indoor karts go 40-45mph...it doesn't seem that fast, but being so low and having quick, sharp corners...it's amazing.

Good luck on Raglan Road at downtown Disney.. oh wait they have one there already Sorry I couldn't resist. Your ideas are intriguing and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter. I liked the way the Comedy Warehouse was, I am a sucker for improv.

I like these as we have a place up here in Indy called Fast Times which is the carts going 40-50 mph however with that being said about a year or so ago a guy died at one of these when his cart tipped and by freak of nature and a 1 in a million chance the gentleman went into the plexiglass and nearly decapitated himself and completely severing his jugular. I believe if done right they would be awesome to have(I loved it myself) but these may cause a liability issue that alot of places will shy away from.

I must say that I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that everything in Walt Disney World has to be 100% family approved. Adults/older families can't have a few acres dedicated to them?

Yes
The thing with that is families are always going to end up there somehow. Even if you restrict it people will cry until Disney cracks and makes it an open place to everyone, then they will cry there is nothing for families to do there.

So then they close it and make it a shopping venue. That's really family oriented, all the kids I know just LOVE to shop. :lookaroun

I would really enjoy a WDW museum built in WDW. It could look at WDW being planned and built, past attractions, and then have a section like the Blue Sky thing they have in DL to look at future projects.

The Blue Sky Cellar would be a great addition...although, it may be pretty empty right now :lookaroun

I'm so glad EPCOT was built in the 80's...it would never be built today. The things we would miss out on today for the sake of the family, PIXAR overlay, $$$, stroller crowd.

Karaoke bar FTW :sohappy:

Oh, you mean like at CityWalk? Which also has several nice somewhat upscale restaurants and, gasp, bars where ADULTS can hang out and be entertained?

And as for the "thugs"...they (or their ilk) are always around any type of "entertainment" complex like that...go to Ybor City, or Church Street, or South Street in NYC...they are there because they are trying to be more ADULT (even if they don't act the part), because it's an ADULT venue...

If you're going to agree to build/support an ADULT entertainment venue, then you have to expect some of that, regardless of what the surrounding environment is. Obviously, Disney no longer wanted to deal with it, so no more ADULT entertainment.

Oh well, it's a short ride over to CityWalk...actually, I may just make the whole trip a Universal trip next time...at least I know I'll be able to do ADULT things there (although I know some folks who would question if I am actually an adult...)

I'll even be spending more time with my family at Universal next time.

Just put the gates back up, charge both by the club and a one-price-for-all, and reopen the clubs and everything is fine. Didn't seem to be many complaints when everyone had to be 21 to gain access.

The issues came when Disney decided to allow families into an adult oriented area. Of course people were going to complain.

~Replacing the gates is the answer to all of PI's supposed problems~

never going to happen.. makes it too difficult for families to get to west side.. which IS family friendlly... I think ultimately, the problem is that pleasure island was in the middle... if it had been at the end, and not restricting guest flow to the other side of the development, we wouldn't be having this conversation

You are correct, it probably will never happen. It was poor planning when they opened West Side and left it secluded on the other side of PI. They should have either converted PI then to a family oriented area then, or created more themed shopping, dining, etc., around the edge of PI, connecting West Side and Marketplace.

Maybe, hopefully, they will create a new adult oriented night time area somewhere else on property in the future and they can learn from their mistakes, but I agree, the former PI area won't revert to it's former use.

Heck, with Virgin gone, they could move DisneyQuest to PI, put a club in it's spot, a club in Virgin, House of Blues across the way, could be a mini adult area at the end of DTD?

Why not just build P.I. WAY out in the everglades?
Keep the rif raf/less than disireables away from WDW and Downtown Disney.
Honestly, A radically VERY FEW will miss that place.
THEE best decision Disney has made since building WDW was to close P.I.
I cant ever remember a time (when on VACATION) that i wanted to go clubbing. Obviously, most others didnt want too either. But, the locals sure did, and NOT the locals you want to be around.
During the week, P.I. wasnt too bad. But the weekends, that brought out the seedy people that not many folks want to be around either at home or especially WDW.
And, those seedy people migrated to the rest of DTD.
Happily, Disney did the right thing, close it.
If WDW wants a P.I. then build it near downtown Orlando. (or the glades) lol

Well that’s all fine and dandy for you but I know of a lot of people who do want time away from their families while on vacation. And as far as the locals you don't want around, are you saying that if you live in FL and go to DTD you’re a thug? PI had a large local fan base, and I didn't see any of them robbing people in the streets. I myself have been going to DTD for many years and have never seen ANY gangs or whatnot. How do you know that they won't just come back and hang out somewhere else in DTD once they actually build something there, because like a previous poster said they didn't go into the clubs, they just hung around outside in the free areas. Why won't they just go hang around another free area? "Honestly, A radically VERY FEW will miss that place." Really? Because I could have sworn I saw a 4 hour line to get into some of the clubs on the final night and there are many people who made radio shows, mailed letters, called, etc. to show how much they loved PI. I don't think you know anything about what really happened with PI. You just believe the pixie dust lies that they said about "We want it more family friendly" when in reality they just wanted other companies to come in and pay for it so Disney didn't have to. That's why it's been 7 months and he haven’t heard jack about what they are going to put in there. Meanwhile Universal is laughing all the way to the bank.

Heh I know, it's just that I had my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and I needed to get the pain out of my system somehow. Now that I vented about PI, I've completely forgot about my sore mouth:p

*I* think Disney should be allowed to RELOCATE the "rif/raf" to the Everglades -PERMENENTLY!- WITHOUT building a new P.I.! Why make 'em something nice like a club? They got no money! I know, because I'm an EMT on the moon, and they have TONNES of "rif/raf!" Some of them I just let die of lunar SARS because they lazy and shiftless. But I dirgess. When *I* go on vacation, I think everyone at WDW should have to submit to random drug tests before getting allowed on Fastpass rides, and if they fail, I and I alone get their fastpass tickets and the rest of their meals on their meal plan! and if they have anything that could even sorta kinda be considered gang colors, then we get to throw stuff at 'em, like sharp pebbles and copies of Ann Coulter books!

MY vacation!
MY money!
MY RULES!!! :sohappy: :lookaroun  :animwink:  :p :ROFLOL:
