"Rapid Fill" Mugs Coming to Walt Disney World Hotels

ok so what they need to do now is for repeat visitors using the same mugs (with RFID chips obviously)...they get a discount on renewing and reusing it. With numerous annual visits, I certainly don't need anymore of those refillable mugs and if they can discount when reused, that would make the most sense

I've always wondered why Disney doesn't do something like a lot of other amusement/theme parks where in the parks you can buy a mug or collectable bottle that comes with refills. I know I always do that at Six Flags, and it's always a good value, because it means I don't have to buy a soda with my meals.

I suppose Disney is a bit different since most people stay for more than one day, but I am sure you could do what they are doing with this Rapid Fill program in the parks too. Pay to add a day! Money!

Will water and ice be a separate machine? Usually the water feature is attached to the lemonade dispenser. If you ask for a cup of water at the counter, it sometimes is pretty small, so would it be allowed to bring your own mug/container for water and ice?

Disney is clearly encouraging a DIY approach.

Not a problem. After MM+ is in full swing there will be no local guests. No one in their right mind would pay $500 for a year of being blocked out of everything but the worst attractions on property. Disney is going to get their wish of not having to deal with FL/GA guests.

Or they could just stop being babies and get in the stand-by line.

Cool Sarcasm...let me try.

So what does guest do that have the lifetime mug that was purchased in the 90's. This can't be a urban myth.

If I were Disney I would take this approach. We realize that the current policy is not what you understood it to be when you purchased this mug. Therefore we will issue you and refund for your purchase price in exchange for the mug. This is the only way we can accomodate you. Have a magical day.

So then you can just buy back the old mugs and be done with it, or, the mug owners can get over it and realize that they got a great value out of it already. Either way Disney would win with this aproach, even if it cost them a bit to buy back the old mugs.

Why don't you think that Disney can change their mind about something that wasn't well thought out anyway. I had never seen where it was ever offered "for life", but since I don't stay on site, it is possible. What isn't possible is for people to get upset because what they probably paid only $10.00 for 10 years ago is no longer valid. Times and rules change. Where not talking thousands of dollars per individual here.

If it was offered I don't think I ever would have brought it back with me. The one time I did purchase one (the only time I stayed on-site) I found that I didn't use it all that often, only at meal time. I refuse to lug it around the parks all day so I wouldn't have used it on the way out. The room I had was about a gazillion miles from the fountain and after a long day at the parks the last think I wanted to do was walk another mile to get a damn drink. I bought some drinks offsite and used the fridge to keep it cool. I also, as a matter of personal principle, would not haul a cup from home just so I didn't have to spend another $14.00 for a new mug. Just seems petty to me.

Didn't I read recently that Disney had backed off some of the benefits that had been extended to DVC people and AP folks, that amounted to a lot more then the few buck it cost for a mug. Why does anything think that, if the life time deal, did exist Disney would have a problem with saying "Not anymore"?
I never said I was upset. I was asking a question.

I have easily had two full power ades within that five minute window, that's going to be a pain, but I wait in lines all day I guess I can wait five minutes before I stroll back to my room with a full mug of juice

Well have used ddp many times, but never got a mug. Well used the TS plan, did we get screwed, or am I missing something?

If you got the dining plan during the times it came with the mug, you get a ticket good for the free mugs and you have to go to the food court and pick them up. We got the free mugs in 2012

see what happens when businesses try to sluff off work to the customer.... 'oh here, you fill the drink order!!'

Eventually unintended consequences catch up to them. Now they have to spend millions to retrofit a technology onto a 50 year old proven concept to keep people from abusing it.

Imagine how simple and cheap it would be if getting a refill meant handing the cup to a CM behind a drink counter. No abuse there...

Passholders receive a discount on the room, they don't need a discount on the mug. You want the mug buy the mug every visit. It was designed as a length of stay feature, not a lifetime event.
Agree. It will wind up being driven by supply and demand. This is just another example of a few people ruining a program for everyone else. (30 mugs indeed.)

I like that you can purchase it for a few days as well. I stayed at AOA for two days this weekend. I could not see the point in buying two mugs for the price. After paying the ridiulous cost of 4 unsweet Iced teas and two coffees (which costs pennies to make) I would gladly buy 2 mugs at 11.99.

Or they can go to Universal and NOT be treated as a second class citizen. You shouldn't have to pay for a hotel room to be treated as an equal in the parks.

Um.... Universal already has a "class system" with their Express Pass. You can choose to wait in the regular line, or if you can afford it, pay extra for the privilege to bypass the line. And, if you stay at one of Universal's hotels, you get and unlimited Express Pass built in.

There is nothing new here. Disney is using technology to enforce a policy that has always been, and people are getting upset. I guess there is some new news. The price hike on a refillable mug, but it seems no one cares about that.
