"Rapid Fill" Mugs Coming to Walt Disney World Hotels

I can't say I'm surprised by this new rule to the refillable mugs. I get a mug every trip because it comes with my DDP, I think I've only had to pay OOP once or twice. I don't get much use of the mugs down in WDW, but I do use them quite often at home, for example I keep one next to my bed with water so when I wake up in the middle of the night I don't have to get out of bed, and I also keep one on my desk at work, they make me smile and wish I was in the world. I like the idea that people won't be able to bring back mugs from their 1999 trip, however I think there should be a certain deal for AP's or people who stay longer than 14 days, since those are the people who tend to spend more money at WDW during the course of one year than the average guest that goes once every 5 years. I do not like that they will have a time limit on how quickly you can refill your mug, as others have said, if I'm really thirsty, I'll fill my mug, gulp down most of it, and fill it back up to take to my room so I don't have to walk back in 5 minutes. Maybe with this new mug program we can get new mugs every year since they will be making a decent profit charging by length of stay.

I always thought a large chunk of revenue restaurants made was from drink sales rather than food (since pop is literally pennies yet they will charge you several dollars). So, don't know if I agree that this will ultimately lose them revenue.

I don't see what the complaints are for. If you are on a long vacation buy a mug, short vacation pay out of pocket per drink. It's just a "deal" really designed for vacationers, not APers to get free pop year round. If the deal doesn't work for you, don't partake in it.

Since when did whatever the heck those mugs cost entitle you to a lifetime of free soda?

Well have used ddp many times, but never got a mug. Well used the TS plan, did we get screwed, or am I missing something?
Would of thought every DDP would have come with one unless your resort doesn't have a self serve drink station then it would be no use to you anyway so that's why you probably didn't get one. I think it is also a new thing so that would also explain things.

I am wondering how this will effect people that choose to split their stay over 2 Disney hotels, I know it says you can use it at any resort but if the two hotels are on different booking references then it will show as a gap in stay not consecutive. I hope they have a (reliable) system to link the bookings with the RFID

I'm not a soda drinker, occasionally I'll pop open some sparkling water or Izze, but I want to know why Disney hasn't installed water bottle refill stations in their parks. Sure, bottled water=$$$$ and this could incentivize folks to use refillable water bottles:eek: , but can't you make our lives easier from a design perspective. We know you love trying hard, albeit not entirely successfully, to suck money out of our wallets. Just give us a break once in a while.

There are "water bottle refill stations" all over property. I use em every visit, but call them by their more common names -- water fountains, sinks, and the hard to find "water" button on the coke dispensers.

We stayed at GF two years ago, and they have a mug station at Gaspirillas. Never offered to us. Maybe it wasnt around in 2011.

I have a family of 5, with at least 3-4 of us going 5 times a year. would I do with all those? For that I'll just buy the paper cups.

Once you have an RFID mug, they should be able to add new days/length of stay options to the RFID chip. Much like how with the current water park mugs, you can bring it back and just buy a new barcode. This works the same way that the magical wrist band will. You can bring your fancy blinged out band back for your second trip, and they should be able to activate that for your band for that trip instead of sending you a new one.

Why? Are you really going to drink an entire mug in less than five minutes?

Easily. Some of the liquids that the fountains dispense are less than cold. Take the 16oz mug, add 6oz of ice, and thats only 10oz of liquid. On a 90+ degree day, one could easily chug that 10oz soda in under a minute, and then have to wait for their RFID to reset.

Costco delivers to your room before you even get into your hotel room. Lots of people use this at the world

They won't. Bell services won't put anything in your room until you have checked into it. And I believe they won't let anyone who isn't a Disney employee into your room. Bell services may take the initiative and deliver your order to your room, but they usually hold onto them until requested. I believe the only exception to this rule is some of the Disney Florist room decoration packages. Outside of that they don't want to be held responsible if they deliver something to "your" room before you check in, but end up having to reassign it to someone else who isn't honest enough to tell them that there is something already in the room.

Beyond that, I do like how they are sneaking in another price increase under the disguise of a new guest service. Anyone know what the RFID chips on the cups do to their recyclability? I know WDW has CMs that sort through everything after collection to make sure it is properly handled, but are they then going to pay someone to sit there and peel off every RFID chip? Or is this another smack in the face to poor old Jiminy Cricket and his efforts to save the earth.....

Not true at all. Karma is a good friend who keeps you warm at night knowing that people actually fret about a billion dollar corporation 'losing' a few cents on soda while making $36 on a few burgers, salads and desserts in a food court.

Changing a system well over a decade in and then acting like the oral contracts given by CMs doesn't matter is BS.

Now, after I go back to talking about more important topics, then I'll go to sleep and take karma with my plush.

Really??? An "oral contract" by CMs is supposed to be honored!?!?!? That's like holding the bus drivers stories like gospel. C'mon....please have some persepctive.

I'm all for this if they change the mug design every year. We already have 6 mugs at home, same design because we bought 3 last spring and got 3 with our DDP last fall. I will admit, with short stays on property, only like 2 nights or less, we have reused our mugs. So sue me. But if we're there for a long stay, we buy the mugs. Having a time limit on how long between refills kind of stinks, but I guess if it prevents one person from buying a mug to fill their whole family's cups, then I guess it's a good idea.

I can't believe people would want to steal soda. Why do we and moan so much. It's just soda. Oh I am sorry, Disney is non-profit. I forgot! Just pay the $3 for a soda. If you can afford to buy an AP (I have PAP) and can afford to get to Disney. You can afford $3. Goodness!

As a local APer (sorry..no cloud walking here), I see very little issue with this. Yes..I do stay in resorts pretty much every time I go..sometimes for only one night. I see constant "abuse" of the refill stations on every trip. Families of 5 sharing one cup..or filling up their own containers with soda (and then giving me the stink eye when I'm standing behind them waiting for them to finish!), or people unpacking mugs from their suitcases in the lobby as they arrive..obviously from a previous trip. Yes it really seems petty to most of us, but its still stealing. Reading people say things along the lines of "They are a billion dollar corporation! They can handle it"..is just pretty silly. Yes..they are a huge company..yes..they make tons of money..but you are not robin hood. Exploiting a system and stealing is wrong no matter WHO its from. Do they overcharge? Yep...a lot. Do they STOP anyone from bringing their own food or drinks? Nope. Do they FORCE you do buy their products? Never.

Besides. Soda is bad for you. See this as encouragement to choose water and be healthy! (adding humor to my post...deeeeep breaths, everyone)

My biggest issue with the whole thing is how long you have to wait for a refill. As a few people have said can you really trip a whole mug of soda in less than 5 minutes, yes I can. Especially if I am going back to my room for the night. I like to drink a full glass or half and then walk back to my room. Or what if The soda I order is flat, now I have to wait 5 minutes to refill it again. Thats nonsense.

Two things.

If this included fill stations in the parks, I would be for this. I would love to be able to buy a mug that I could refill at any resort, and at the parks and DTD. I think 2 or 3 fill stations at each park would be enough.

Secondly...we've never needed to buy mugs because we always just bring 12-packs with us. $2.50 for a 12-pack is still cheaper than resort mugs.
