Princesses may not rule fantasy land after all! Frontierland expansion rumor reality?

I'm glad Pixie Hollow may get the axe. Honestly, I'd rather see nothing put there for now, and leave it open for an expansion of something else in the near future. Obviously, I think there's tons of possible other options that would be better than a Pixie Hollow area. Another D or E ticket dark ride, a Villians Mountain coaster like people have mentioned...or something related to Alice in Wonderland or an ALADDIN dark ride...ANYTHING sounds more interesting to me than PH.

Perhaps we will finally witness the end of Country Bear Jamboree and see it replaced with a new attraction with wider appeal (there have been old rumors about a Woody's Round Up ride)..

Although I couldn't care less about CBJ, I did it once as a kid in 1982 and never returned as I was bored to death. But it is to many guests still a classic and the show building is too small to house any decent ride, so it would be replaced by a new show, perhaps "Great Time in the west with Stitch"? :D

Maybe if it's just that building. Close a couple things around it and expand a bit, and then you might have enough room to build a new attraction.

I too am encouraged by the rumors of Pixie Hollow getting the axe, that franchise will have no longevity what-so-ever.

But FL and TL are the lands that need work right now. I don't see why Frontierland needs anything.

Take a look at the location of CBJ, it's surrounded by buildings that are either very small or necessary for other functions, e.g. Peco Bills, Tiki Room or whats left of it. You cannot place any ride there, that really makes sense.

We had Jim on our show a few weeks ago. He has been sitting on this information for a little while, and while he had what he regarded as an excellent source, he held it back until he got further confirmation.

It's possible that Jim is a mouthpiece for several people with an agenda. It happens in his line of work, but the reality is more likely the fact that when discussing rumors things are never absolute.

What seems to be up in the air now is the Fantasyland budget. I guess there was talk that some of the funding was being held back until a resolution to the Pixie Hollow area came to be. The initial belief on here was that money would be re-allocated to another Fantasyland project, and that Frontierland would be it's on project. I don't know if anyone on here has more information on that.

And alot of you guys on this site doubted my earlier post because I didn't have full explanations of projects & their names..........either way I am a liar I guess, If I source my info. publically, somone could get in trouble. If Disney decides to change or morph a project a bit- I am wrong ......
so either way a wrong liar........:fork:

Keep in mind, we all go to the parks a bit more than others so change to us is dreadful slow.......in 10 years time we will all be seeing some MAJOR changes at the world. some of which I see mentioned on the upcoming attractions thread a day or so ago- the color coded one..I think AK will turn out to be most spectacular by 2020. It really needs more attactions to finish up the park so to speak.

Also, why do you think they are building MANY more onsite hotels, there will soon be much more capacity in the futute- due to the expansions of most parks, and flamingo crossings and................... :drevil:

This is NEWS and RUMORS right? Disney can change their mind about a project anytime they choose, and all of our info. could potentially be wrong, no?

This could be a misinformation campain (where I heard it) ,big business does it all the time. But I don't think it is. I was told if I handed out specifics, they would find out and my source could lose out....... So yes, I spoke in generalities to protect the innocent... Wouldn't you?

Well then read the part of Jim Hills article about merchandising and how visitors in IOA fill the shops in WWoHP and think about it. What offers more merchandising opportunities? Cowboys based on, well decade old movies or Pirates based on a current franchise?
But I already realized that disney is really bad on this topic. During my last visit I would have spent easily 100$ more on attraction merchandise if there would have been any interesting (HM) or any at all (JC etc.)

Good point. The crazy thing is that it would seem so easy to launch a western-themed franchise. Shoot, even I could come up with a pretty decent script based around a town imagined in BTMRR. Get Johnny Depp to dress up as a funky cowboy and start counting the money! :drevil:

All in all though, I do hope that the Jim Hill article is correct, and that TDO suits are moving away from the princess/fairy saturation. All hail Tom Staggs!

Im starting to like this Tom Staggs! Someone is finally seeing the light compared to the duhhhhhhh guys that were in there, rasulo.

Anyway, some of you have been talking about like a woody roundup ride in frontierland. I know the theme and all is perfect, but must we have another toy story ride?? toy story mania (while in another park) we already have and buzz lightyear ranger spin etc etc. Its not getting old but something else would be nice instead of using the same movie theme everywhere. I vote for Pocahontas. :) hey I like her what can I say.

Disney's track record with launching franchises (outside of Pixar) is pretty abysmal. See Prince of Persia and Sorceror's Apprentice.

Trying to sum up in one or two posts.

First off, retooling of the Fairies franchise is a good thing. Holding off building Pixie Hollow would benefit from having more characters to choose from. Making the area smaller also is a good idea. If part of the area could be indoors, the better. Better lighting could go a long way.

Tom Skaggs is right. Trying to make attractions for everyone and not just for girls or toddlers, etc. With FLE, this was an undertaking that really ran with one concept, Princesses. Fantasyland is not all about the girls. A Pinocchio or Dalmatian attraction. Heck even Hercules or Aladdin. Taking a step back and seeing what else can be done with Tom's input, I think, will be a good thing.

As for any Frontierland expansion, maybe Tom is brave enough to try and push through the Western River Expedition project that Marc Davis created years ago. Now that, would be a balance to any Fantasyland project. ((WDI should revisit some of the shelved plans that were created for original ideas. There must be tons of ideas already thought through)).

As for Tomorrowland, I think that the powers that be need a vision and to create a land around that vision instead of bandaging areas that don't gel together. I don't know if I would keep Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland. DHS would benefit the most from having Pixar Place expand and expand.

Remember that most attractions were not built around movies. Yes, there were some: Peter Pan's Flight, Dumbo, Snow White's Adventures, Mr. Toad, and Pooh (ok throw in Pinocchio's Daring Adventure and Alice attraction in DL), but the major ones like Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room were all original ideas. After the successful original ideas from the World's Fair, DL received It's a Small World, Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln and Caroussel of Progress. Small World is an icon in the theme park industry and Caroussel of Progress was very innovative moving the audience around the theater. The parks need more original ideas, especially the Magic Kingdom, where attractions create the adventure, compared to attractions mimicking movies. Heck, we now have movies that were born from attractions: POTC, Haunted Mansion, Country Bears, and possibly Jungle Cruise. When would you think that would ever happen.

All new attractions do not have to be based on animated features or recent blockbusters. There should be a mix though. Tron, after all these years, should have some sort of Tomorrowland attraction. It should have been there for how many years already. With a sequel ready to come out and a third waiting to be produced, it would just make sense. Princess and the Frog should definitely be put in the parks. It just makes sense in New Orleans Square in DL and possibly in Adventureland in WDW (any better suggestions?). If anything, the Magic Kingdom should stick to the Classics and Modern Classics. The other parks can take care of the rest.

As for shopping, no wonder the TWWOHP is cleaning up. Merchandise is only found in that area!!!! Shops have specific items only found in those shops. Shops like the World of Disney or the Emporium should carry generic brand merchandise. Leave the "land" specific merchandise in those lands. I don't need to see Vinylmation or Princess costumes or Fairies stuff in every land. The worst decision Disney made was coming up with "Disney Parks" merchandise. It cheapens the market. It may cost less, but it doesn't create a theme.

You're assuming the Fairies relaunch will be a success, which I am far from convinced will be the case.

One must assume that if they cut PH, they must have thought that there wasn't enough demand for it. If people were really pushing for Pixies over princesses, maybe then they would have cut the Princess area in favor of more Pixies. Seeing as this was not the case, and PH was Phase Two from the get-go, the demand for Pixies must not have been that strong.

Nevertheless, I'm not cheering on cutting PH until I know what's replacing it, which chances are will probably be nothing.

Love the avatar.

According to Jim Hill (I know) the cutting of PH has to do with Disney trying to expand the franchise and not wanting to commit resources to a franchise while they are tweaking it.

The franchise is one of the most popular things Disney has going for it. The Tink M&G alone proves there is a demand.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but outside of Tink i dont seeing it being "successful".

I have no idea what that means. Tink is the franchise. The franchise pulls in over 2 billion dollars annually. It is the number one franchise among girls 6-9. By what measure is this anything but a successful franchise?

"Tink is the franchise", that's kind of my point. maybe i was stating it wrong, and I apologize for any confusion if I did. I just dont see there being much interest BEYOND Tink.

Gotcha.

Disney apparently agrees with you. That's part of the stated reason for tweaking the franchise.

I just hate the perception that the Fairies franchise is somehow a failure. (And it's not that I'm a fan.) Objectively, it's been very successful.
