Pocahontas Show Closing

Hopefully they'll put a ride in its place

Well since this will leave only a semi-permanent building left in CMM (FOTLK) and since there have been rumors of some amazing new attractions being mentioned as possiblilities for AK then I am fairly certain something big is afoot. (Just my opinion)

I saw Monsters Inc in the theaters and haven't seen it since. I actually didn't care for it either. I'll watch it again at some point soon, but at this point I agree with those that weren't a fan.

As for Pocahontas, if they want to turn this into log flume, I'd like to see it not as a Splash Mountain type, but rather a canoe ride that isn't a thrill ride.

I know the rumors have been that a Jules Verne themed area has been rumored? The hope for me is that this is the first step in that, and they'll keep the Lion King open as long as possible, or move it to Africa.

No loss. The entire camp minnie-mickey is just a lame ersatz-land for Beastly Kingdomme, partially nice landscaping though but boooooring. I was there about 5 minutes or so before I left and never came back. Doesn't even count as a real land to me with how many attractions so far? ONE? And that's not even a good one after what I heard of.

Ponchontas who?

I think I killed Pocahontas!
We took one of the ubiquitous guest surveys at the front of AK when we were there 2 weeks ago and when she asked if there was anything I wasn't interested in seeing I replied "The only thing I have no interest in is Pocahontas" When asked why i simply said the show was uninteresting and I wished they'd built Beastly Kingdomme there!
Now 2 weeks later they announce they're closing the show!? Coincidence... I think not!!!:lookaroun
I'm going back to say that I want AC spared, I want a fifth gate and a monorail expansion!:ROFLOL:

We have NEVER seen the Ponchontas show. Had no interest, desire, or need to view it. I like your ideas very much. :sohappy:

LOL @ Monsters Inc. as a "sub-par film".

jeff.

I'm not saying it's a bad film. But really it was Pixar's follow-up to Toy Story....actually I guess Bug's Life was. But yeah I guess Monsters was better than Bugs Life. But it pailed in comparisom to Toy Story. To me Nemo and Incredibles got them back on track. STILL havent seen Ratatoullie or Wall-E yet but have heard good things.

Yeah, Monsters Inc is a good movie on it's own accord, but in comparisom to the other Pixars (to say nothing of Disney) it just doesnt stand out, for me anyways.

I wouldnt mind a new flume ride, or a white-water ride, as long as its WAY longer than kALI River Rapids lol. But Pocahontas, as I said not really a classic, and the film's 10 years ago. Surely Disney would give it a dark ride or something lame. Spending a lot of money on a movie 10 years ago, that's already been released on DVD, doesn't make a lot of sense.

And yeah I agree with Lion King moving to Africa. It's kid-friendly but not what you'd expect. I mean being in Camp Minnie Mickey if I hadnt rad the guide books I would have expected something more along the lines of the cartoon.

CMM's finest attraction?

The best part of CMM is being first in line at 10 AM (get there first at opening) to see Mickey!

If the CM in charge thinks you "deserve it" you'll be a "Camper of the Day" and then ride in the AK parade at 3 PM.

Aside from that... CMM is pretty boring...

They could easily relocate a character meet and greet area to the back area, Planet Watch or whatever... That might actually get more people to go back there.

I'm sure they could move FotLK to Africa too... shouldn't be too hard.

Bring on the "Fire Mountain" or the "BK!!"

I have never seen the show but I have heard the show and based on that alone I don't need to see the show. 9/10 the Pocahontas seems very off key and is really over acted. Im sure the show has its fans but I really don't think this is something to cry over.
CMM is a fun way to see the characters and that's all it's really good for. Unless of course you are a fan of FOLK which I find to be extremely overrated. It is after all a recycled parade from Disneyland. It features good singing with ok Choreography, stunts, and acrobatics. Then again it is just a theme park show. Which is also a good way to sum up the Broadway Musical of The Lion King. The two do parrel each other a bit too much.

Heading for the great escape.
Surely its just another way of Disney to cut some costs by reducing staff, a decision that urgently required given the apocalyptic attendance forecasts posted on here.

Oh and I think the shows just fabulous but I dont think its that good to worry about it going.

I just found out that PW over in Dino-rama is going to have a major refurb. I had always thought that Dinorama could be the place where AK has it's next major expansion (Austrailia?). But now that the Pocahontas show is going I really believe CMM is going away and that area is slated for something major.

As for FotLK, I think it will relocate to either Africa or Adventureland. Personally I think it would be great at the MK if they build it to the standards of the new show in Hong Kong. That theater and show look awesome from the pictures I have seen.

Also I don't think they will replace the Pocahontas show with another because this is the second show. The first show was way back in the day at the Studios. Then they moved it when Ak opened to throw some animals in the refurbed show. Maybe they will just give her a dark ride/log flume attraction. But that's just my opinion.

The show at MGM and this show are 2 VERY different things! The show at MGM was more a "telling of the story of Pocahontas." The one in Camp Minnie-Mickey, btw this was the second version a pocahontas show at AK, is about her living with the animals, Grand Mother Willow and that twig thing...:lookaroun It will fade away and no one will notice it was there or gone. But I would not hold my breath for any type of attraction based on Pocahontas. That movie ranks up there as one of those Disney films that came out and went over about as well as.... well most of the movies right around that time.

I might see it one last time before it closes. The show was good for little kids but I do think something else new and fresh should be added. I always thought this land was neglected. I talked to a good friends who is a manager at Animal Kingdom who said that there were three possible replacements on the table:
1)Discovery trails for North American animals used in the show (like the trails that go around the Tree of Life).
2)A new type of Soarin' that has been discussed on this site before.
3) A possible log flume ride that would go through most of Camp Minnie-Mickey.
Again these are just possible replacements that are on the table right now from what came out of a managers meeting at the Animal Kingdom.

I for one think the log flume ride has alot of possibilities and would probably be a big draw like Splash Mountain esp. during the hot summer months!

If AK's gonna do anything about a water-ride it should be re-doing Kali River Rapids to make it longer.

That said, I think a log flume ride should go in DHS. It's the only theme park that doesn't have one! Granted, Maelstrom isn't exactly very wet either lol.

I don't think the first would be very relevant, as most visitors see these animals either in their natural habitats or sleeping in awkward positions on the roadways. But I'd be interested.

I'd love to see a Soarin' Over Africa, where you'd go above the Serengeti Plains and such, but I'd hate to see Disney brand name such a unique and original attraction.

Once again, I don't see how a log flume would be relevant, but still who knows what Imagineers have up their sleeves? :D

Did your friend say anything about BK?

HAHAHAHAH! That's a good one. :ROFLOL::wave:

Honestly, it wasn't intended to be a joke. I appreciate the sentiment, though. I think the reactions in this thread truly represent the ambivalence towards it.

I think I would rather see the final showing of this though.
