Plan C for Pleasure Island

The current DTD is about only 1/3 of the size it will be when all is said and done. Many ideas and mappings have been worked over for the last few years to work out the specifics and details and they are still changing (which is why Hyperion Warf delayed construction). When all is said and done, expect a new DTD entrance ramp off I4, unique transportation, a blow-up of the current WoD, possible nightime entertainment, structured parking and several retail offerings from around the world.

Good lord, I love it when you chime in with these little tidbits. Almost like the ultimate hit and run.

If what you have described ever happens, it would be well worth the wait. It'd be really nice to see TDO finally do something that one-ups Uni. These plans sound like just what the doctor ordered.

He was saying that the "doom and gloomers" should not get in trouble for calling the positive people names.

Reading is a chore sometimes huh?

Nope, I was wondering why DG'S get bashed for name calling when you and others drop more name calling in a few days then 74 and the rest of them in the same amount of time...

Reading comprehension is a chore sometimes huh?

Now to a topic where I have a genuine interest - shopping.

I DO remember all of the little niche stores, and frequently made purchases. Summer earrings and tops from the kiosks in Adventureland (I do remember them, and stopped every trip), and my husband (and now my son) are still frightening Trick or Treaters with a mask purchased at the Magic Shop on Main St - it was a must for them every trip. I have a brass bellows that I purchased in Moroco way back when. I haven't seen any like it in years - I stopped looking at least a decade ago.

The list of items unique to each store was endless, and there was even a time when you had to actually go to WDW or DL to get most Disney themed items - so they were real souvenirs.

It's been a long, long time since I've purchased more than food and drink at WDW.

That's just it. Shopping was part of the whole show. And it wasn't shopping for Steven Miller's latest pet OCD fanboi collectors item (pins to vinyl and now cards).

You used to be able to buy items that represented in some sense the adventures you were experiencing. For instance, you could exit PoC and walk into the Golden Galleon and buy ships in bottles, books on pirates, and all sorts of nautical items ... some with PoC and or Disney on them. Now, you exit PoC and instead of a large, beautiful, EMPTY courtyard with fountains and flowers and a gift shop to the right, you walk 15 feet and have cheap Disney BRANDED PoC film crap, everything from plastic swords to Captain Jack tees and toys.

Back in the day, if you wanted something explicitly Disney, then you went to the Emporium or Mickey's Star Traders or Centorium at EPCOT. Now, there is absolutely no need to look at a gift shop much of anywhere (a few exceptions in WS and at DAK are about it over 43 square miles) 'cause it's the same all over and it isn't good.

But I am with you on the buying part. The only time I'm buying is when I'm at Property Control with a CM pal ... and often then I'm buying things like art that came from resort rooms or strange items that just turned up. I don't want Walmart crap. If I did, then I'd shop there.

I am really hoping that DLP has improved and I can buy some stuff there soon! :)

Another sad loss due to Mismanagement. There was once upon a time when Atlantic Dance Hall featured a live swing band a resembled a private club from a movie based in the 20's or 30's (the Colbalt Club from the Shadow comes to mind) and you felt compelled to don your finest pinstriped suit or tuxedo just to walk in. Unfortunately somewhere along the lines someone decided to make it a carbon copy of Motion and ruin an otherwise beautiful and unique nightclub.

The answer to them ruining ADH is the same as everything else at WDW: $$$.

It's a whole lot cheaper to run the place as a 'typical anytown club' than a themed, classy location with a real band.

It may be planned, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Plansa are changing due to a lack of interest. There is no reason to believe that now there is suddenly an interest in this just being part of a larger experience. Disney wants more lease space but people aren't biting at what they have.

Yes. A lot of things are planned ... in one manner of the other. And much of what raven is saying I've seen proof of or heard from others I trust. ... But I don't buy for a second that any of it is going to happen in the near future (like next 3-4-5 years).

Again, they announced Flamingo Crossing and Golden Oak and Four Seasons in 2007. It is 2012 now ... one of them is totally dead, another they have just finally broken ground on and the other (a high end home development for the top one percent) also is just in its earliest stages.

Much like Avatarland, I wouldn't count on any of what's 'planned' actually happening.

They have all that parking by Cirque which sucks because it is so far away from everything

No, it is very convenient to Cirque and HoB and AMC and Puck's and a short walk to the seeds and mulch at TSFKaPI ... maybe that exercise might be good for the average WDW guest?

Out of sheer curiosity is there even a place in NO to have a family friendly mardi gras?

Absolutely! Thousands of family's do it every year down here. Like I said its very easy to see all the adult things of Mardi Gras but it's also easy to have a family friendly Mardi Gras too. The biggest suburb of New Orleans called Metairie has a ton of parades and the past 4-5 years they have been putting on a huge event called Family Gras. It's on the parade route and filled with live music, good food and little games for kids to play. Theirs a lot about Mardi Gras people don't know.

I mainly ask since i have known or met a lot of people for Nola who leave during Mardi Gras because they dont want their kids around there. I had guests tell me that when i worked at Disney and the hotel i work at up here in Chicago. But thank you for telling me something i did not know

It won't be forever.

What Raven said is true. As if I need to vouch for said member of course. Plans have and are changing a lot still, but many things are being seriously considered including all of those points.

I did upload a plan a while back of the alternate downtown layout should PI have been kept. They took the cheap and easy route and looked what happened. Back then main parking would have been outside Team Disney with an aerial fixed link to DTD. Now it seems any structure will be north of BVD, although most of the surface parking south of today's Marketplace and PI is destined to be developed.

And the ''doom and gloomers'' get in trouble for name calling...

He didn't get banned for saying what was quoted. That just happens to be something he posted before being banned - for multiple personal attacks, as I recall.

And for continuing to use vulgarity after being warned and having posts edited.

BTW, could you all please get back on topic, rather than making personal attacks/comments? I did a bit of editing, and think I deleted/edited an equal number of posts from both the "Doom and Gloomers" and also the "Pixie Dust Brigade" but unlike some of you I'm not keeping count.

Both sides are equally guilty of bad behavior.

Can we start having patches for which party we sit in? I love the coined terms! :p

just wondering why you seem to have so much inside information but you only confirm such after someone like Raven or Steve or some other insider has posted a rumor. Yet you never post any hint of a rumor beforehand. In fact it is just the opposite as you usually only seem to hint at cut-backs and the lack of investment at WDW going forward. Your ho-hum attitude when something major gets talked about after it so clearly contradicts so much of what you say about TDO is always telling.

I am definitely not trying to start a flame war, especially with The Mom in the room :lookaroun::animwink:, but there is something in the manner you write and the way you present yourself that grates in its' contadictions. It is as if you try too hard to prove your 'insiderness' and a need to feel superior to others.

As for the examples you mention, it seems as though TWDC truly thought the "recovery" formula would work in the face of decades and decades of economic lessons around the globe. Many people drank that kool-aid (shout out to ""Enigma" here) including many corporations -- not just TWDC. But pipe dreams and propaganda are only for show. And so projects got canceled that were planned to take advantage of the theorized recovery that never could occur.

Now don't you have somewhere overseas to go? I think I hear mickey calling

PS- TDO can't defend themselves here and it is not my intention to do so. They have 'people' for that. I just hope this post does not get deleted because it is purely intended to provide some balance to all the 'bah-humbugism' that is allowed to take place here. Nothing more, nothing less.

Regarding the "New Orleans" theme for the former PI, I seem to recall that was the original idea for that piece of land. The Empress was to be themed like it was docked in New Orleans and the rest was a combination of a hotel and shopping. I believe that those plans were the basis of Port Orleans.

I wish you people would just behave. Your bickering is so trivial and childish. Every discussion starts out well, then seems to get heated, and then deteriorates into an argument with insults, snide remarks, vulgarity, and name calling. One of you just has to poke, and then a couple poke back, and the next thing I know my mailbox is full of complaints. Usually from both sides of the argument. ;)

Just like overdone displays of public affection, it's fun for the participants, but just makes everyone else around them uncomfortable. Get a room, or in this case, please go someplace else to continue your seemingly endless battle.

BTW, this is not in response to any particular post, poster, or thread. It is happening all over the forum, in threads covering a variety of topics - multiple posters are involved.
