New Fantasyland (early 2012) – The largest expansion project in Magic Kingdom history will open in phases beginning February 2012 at Walt Disney World Resort, featuring attractions and experiences in an area that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland. Among the novelties, guests will be able to fly high with The Great Goofini or with Dumbo the Flying Elephant, “immerse” themselves in Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid and “be our guest” at the Beast’s Castle. Out of the gate in early 2012 will be The Barnstormer coaster, Fantasyland Station and – for the first time anywhere turning counter-clockwise – the first half of the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction. Completion of The New Fantasyland is scheduled for 2014 with most new experiences open by 2013.

lee i would just like to say curse you for stickin with that darn 2014 date.. :) i really thought they could make 2013.. well time to rethink vacation plans

I've seen this on a few sites so I am assuming it's an official Disney press release. Good to see that the dates are finally getting a little more firm.

That's a good question. I had assumed they would put some themeing on the side and back of the building to make it look appropraite to the speedway, but not sure what the plan is at this point. I am also curious about the one segment of yellow on the main tent roof. If you look back in the construction photos you can see that it's been there for quite a while. Not sure if the entire roof will be that color or not.

I, too, was wondering how the show building would look, not just from behind on the Speedway, but also from above on Barnstormer.

Ohh Lee-sorry bout highjacking the thread folks

At the grand opening event for Disney's Aulani resort in Hawaii, I had the opportunity to chat with Tom Staggs, the company's parks and resorts chairman. Our conversation began with a focus on Aulani. But like the dog in the Pixar film, Up, I (along with the rest of Disney fandom) was completely distracted by the stunning "Squirrel!" announcement about Avatar that Staggs delivered a few days prior to the Aulani opening, and the conversation quickly moved to the still-gestating project. (To corroborate how unformed the concept is at this point, I asked Joe Rohde, the Imagineer who took the lead in designing Aulani, what was next for him, and he said Avatar, since Disney's Animal Kingdom is also under his Imagineering purview. But, he said he hadn't had any meetings about it and wouldn't until a couple of weeks after the Aulani opening.)

whats more likely?

One of the biggest surprises for an announcement at Disney in which nobody-and i mean nobody leaked it or knew about it(outside of a few internal people)-was emailed to a poster on multiple WDW web sites a month in advance and he ignores it.

Or he is just some guy pulling the wool over our heads.

Yea I would wager that stripe on the roof a test sample to make sure the color is right........still curious to see how the show building will look from the ground when completed....

Agreed, though I believe I've said all I need to on the subject. Proving my credibility to random posters is not something that interests me very much.

As for Dumbo, I don't expect the rear of the building to remain yellow. What is seen in the photos is not the final wall covering.

Lee, I always appreciate & enjoy the info you post, thanks!
Any ideas to what they may do to theme/hide the show building? I had just assumed some extra trees be planted & over time they would fill things in....but the yellow paint made me think otherwise...perhaps if something should replace the speedway down the road a new attraction could be built next to it to hide the building? Kinda like how small world & mansion are next to each other....But mansions building has a color that blends with the greenery... Just thinking out loud here...I have no inside info

I'll check the plans when I get home to see if anything is specified to go between Dumbo and the race track. Probably trees.

Edit: Yep...trees.

I'm nobody and I know nothing, but -yeah -I appreciate everything you post here Lee. I've come to trust you and even when what you say doesn't pan out precisely I never get the impression you big-timing us or trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Keep up the good posts!

Scott - You're the MAN!
Thanks again for another fantastic aerial update :sohappy:

Thanks OBE, Hippo, and others... I didn't even know this thread was around :ROFLOL:

I thought the circus tent transition from Toon to nakedness, so I thought I'd post these comparison pictures. Wish I'd had time to compose them the same way but my overflights are almost always quick flybys. I hope the new cover has some kind of design to it, we used the old ones as test targets for several different camera systems. I think I've got one from a Microsoft system we tested awhile back that were pretty darned neat, I'll try to find it.

My apologies for the first batch of December pictures. It was very cloudy with rain showers that day.

Thanks for the pictures Scott, great job. I went up in November for shots, but they didn't come out that great (I think it's because of the camera). Are you a pilot or do you just go up with someone for the photos?

Thanks :)

Both, but unless you're really proficient at both tasks it's not really too bright to do both at the same time - then again there are advantages to doing it that way too :)

I try to get down there every 1-2 months but things have been really hectic lately.

Scott is there any chance you could give me a heads as to when your going up in the future? I would hate to go up for aerials the same day you did. Again great shots and thanks.

Don't sweat it - there are ALWAYS people around there, keep your eyes open (another reason to have a second set of eyes). We have TCAS in the big airplane and PCAS in the other, they're always going off.

PS: my schedule depends on what job pops up, where it is, and what the weather is like. Sometimes we don't decide where we're going until we're flying by. :)

Ya we had the same problem(garmin 1000). I guess everyone gets congested because of the TFR. My flight instructor and I are going to try and get an extended approach into KORL. He said sometimes you can get below the TFR if ATC grants the request. Again awesome shots and fly safe.

Scott, as you may have seen, I like to 'morph' together pics from around the area, especially from different constuction-sites.
I took the liberty of using three of Yours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpTWRp4Hiko&feature=youtu.be

Unfortunately the last one (with the skinned tents) is a little too 'close-up' (if only it had been a liitle more of a wide shot,
I could have turned it a little and got it more aligned with the others).

Hope You like it :xmas:

Yeah, I tried the same kind of thing. That second one didn't quite turn out the way I wanted though.
