"Bus from Kissimmee" means "minorities", right? Gross.

Whoa, whoa dude. That is quite an accusation! For your information -ummm..no. But your rudeness is noted. Let me elaborate...young, loitering, drunk, stumbling over themselves, harassing cast members and other guests, making others feel uncomfortable. It was clear these were people who would otherwise not be at Disney, but rather there because it was free, and all their money could go to alcohol (which it did). If that translates to some sort of minority comment, thats on you, dude....

ADH is nothing like PI

Like I said, I don;t really have a point of reference, because I didn't go to Pleasure Island. And I actually wish it was still there so I could see how Disney compared to CityWalk. I can only hope it was safer and a little more upscale. Either way, Disney had their reasons for closing it, and even people posting here have mentioned security issues. If I was Disney, that is not the kind of liability I would want either. It works for CityWalk, but there is no question they make bank on it.

That is accurate. PI had multiple themed clubs each catering to people wanting a different type of music or comedy. ADH tries to cater to everyone and thus does an overall poor job making anyone happy.

OK, but YOU'RE the one that made reference to these people you saw in ADH as being from Kissimmee. Apparently you feel that young, drunk people who harass CM's and other guests and are up to no good fit the description of someone from Kissimmee. Since it is well-known that a majority of Kissimmee residents are minorities (hispanic and/or black), I think the inference was not on the person asking you that question, it's on YOU for referring to these people as being from Kissimmee.

Wow, definetly NOT my intention, so I deleted the reference in my original post. Whoa....

So, aside from the business logic (which I do not agree with) of outsourcing more at Downtown Disney. Why would Disney close up PI? And if it was solely about profit, why couldn't they simply outsource those clubs to other companies? It seems like Disney just closed the door on any sort of nighttime entertainment. The question remains- if you were management (responsible for making sure every aspect of the resort was successful), what would you have done with PI to bring people in, make money, and still keep it a safe and friendly environment?

I would have done the opposite of everything that tdo did the past decade with PI.

All credible sources say that PI was profitable to the end. But in the booming economy of the middle of the last decade, allegedly they estimated that they could make even higher profits by leasing the space out. They could reduce the number of employees on their books and collect rent at no risk. The plan was a winner. The very quick lease on Rock'n'Roll Beach Club showed them how easy this would be to pull off. So they announced the closures and proceeded with the plan. But then the economy quickly collapsed yet everything was already closed. Whoever leased RnRBC bailed out of the deal and they could never find anyone to lease anything else. So PI has sat idle for 2+ years now with little end in sight. It's no coincidence that the current leader of DTD is the former head of outsourcing at Disney.

There is nothing they could do. Many claim PI was 'profitable' to the end. But what they fail to mention is the impact PI had on profit in other venues at DTD. It was not a 'user friendly' configuration but it also hurt other businesses. I believe to the point that any profit it made was ultimately lost in other areas.

As DTD reimagines itself I am sure you will see the amazing results that a non-club based business model will provide for Disney's DTD. No doubt about it.

Heading for the great escape.
Yes we can see how big a failure City Walk has been promoting with a club based entertainment area.

Must be spring already if thats the first cuckoo.

I would have to agree with that. Disney loves nothing more than making money. Ever since hearing about PI closing, it was always my assumption that it was either not making enough money, or it was making money at the expense of some other aspect of the resort. With that said, I will be very disappointed if something great doesn't come with the wharf. If it is simply a extension of what is already at Downtown Disney (boring shops, boring restaurants, no excitement whatsoever), I will be extremely disappointed and probably never visit there again. I would love it if they could create something that will bring people out, but to have a good time and socialize. Citywalk is right up the road - they have Orlando's club scene. Disney doesn't need to compete with that. They can create something for older adults who still like to go out, but don't necessarily want to be hung over and have a ringing in their ears the next morning.
