Parking going up to $14

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. There appear to be ways to get around paying for parking, or parking in a closer space, which involve a guest being someplace where he/she is not entitled to be. The fact that no one jumps out to stop you doesn't give you permission to do it.

Out and out stealing or fraud? Perhaps not, even though you have gotten something without paying for it, or having it given to you. Unethical? Yes, IMO, and the opinion of this forum. So discussing it will not be allowed.

Perhaps you could share this information through PM, if you are so inclined.

Parking in a spot that is for paying customers without paying is stealing. Not way to justfy it in any way. IMO.

Now parking somewhere else and using the bus service is a bit more, shall we say, hazy.

Jt, 14 dollars is a lot for parking in this economy. Not even including the large ticket price. No, it was not a joke.

And Jt why do you call using the bus service "hazy" when you just thought I was kidding by suggesting using other methods. I don't get it. :veryconfu

I get what you're saying Mom. I have an interesting question though. Do buses run from parks from DtD? If you parked at DtD and it's not going to a resort first or anything then wouldn't that be Disney's fault for sending buses directly to parks from DtD? Sorry I wrote that kind of in a confusing way, but do you see my point? Everyone is aloud to be in DtD without paying anything.

I paid $25 at the Buccaneers game sunday to park in the grass and loooong walk to the stadium. Suddenly 14 bucks and a tram ride seems worth it. the food was outrageous, and my team lost.

Point- Disney.

This is such a silly comparison. There are what..? Eight or ten chances a year to go see a NFL home game versus the 365 days a year when you can go to one of FOUR theme parks. Of course a one-shot event with a very limited number of total annual opportunities is going to cost more than something open every single day for over 38 years!

Apples-to-apples, Disney (like all theme parks) is really taking advantage of a situation where you have no other options and you either park at their rate or don't show up at all. It's a rip off truly and everyone knows it. (Even if some people seem utterly and completely determined to convince themselves and everyone else otherwise.)

There are a few legitimate authorized ways of avoiding the standard parking process and fees.

The first obviously is to get an annual pass that includes free parking.

The Tables in Wonderland membership provides free parking at the theme parks after 5PM as well as free complimentary valet parking at the resorts (Dining is required to receive the free parking) Some of the parks also have convenient spaces up front for members so there is less hassle getting into the park.

Valet parking at the Disney Deluxe Resorts is a paid service and as such it is allowed to use the service and travel to a Theme Park, this however will not save you money when you factor in the $12 fee and a standard $2 tip, but at least some of your money will go to a cast member and not the company and in some cases this can be more convenient.

Ridiculous. And while I realize you are a moderator and we therefore are under your dictatorial rule, Who are you to determine what is ethical and non-ethical? I personally don't know of the way to park for free at the Magic Kingdom (since I don't like to rent a car). So I can't say for certain whether this is merely a loophole in the parking set-up or if it involves motorists driving into areas they shouldn't. If the latter, I agree that discussing it should be restricted. If the former, there is no legitimate reason to limit discussion, unless you are receiving a check from Disney.

Yeah... no new attractions at all... except for that big, you know, giant roller coaster they just put up... and Disney sure has added a lot of attractions in the past couple months to warrant the price increase, right?

I don't like the price hikes more than anyone else, but this whole "Disney's was justified while Universal's was bullcrap" mentality is beyond ridiculous.

Actually, RRR doesn't even run certain days. I was there on Monday and it wasn't running. (Overheard the employee say it doesn't run on certain days, I'm guessing due to attendance.)

I don't want to start a Universal vs. WDW debate, but WDW is worth the money ten fold, so I can understand why people would be fine with paying $14 for their parking vs. Universal, even though it is now the same price.

I was so disappointed, but I probably shouldn't have been comparing it to Disney either (and I have been to Universal before). They were severely understaffed on Saturday (I HATE cafeteria type quick service, they seem to love it there), having only one side open and having to wait 30 minutes in a line for a pizza. They really don't try and make any adjustments for vegetarians either, some restaurant only had fries or brownies as a meatless option.

Not to mention that I didn't realize they converted the Express pass into a system that costs money. Didn't they use to have it like the Fastpass system a couple of years ago?

I felt like I was at Six Flags half of the time. I even tried to take pictures on one of the rides (didn't see it listed anywhere that you couldn't) and someone came over a loud speaker and told me rudely, "put the camera away!", during the ride!

Sorry for taking this way off topic. My point is, I can see where people would rather spend the money on something that is worth it. I don't think Universal's parking should be the same as Disney, they have a lot less to offer. For $14 I can park all day at four different parks, I'm limited to one garage at Universal.

Actually it's completely legal and in a guest area. Nothing sneaky about it what-so-ever if you just know how to do it.

$14 may be high but it's only going to get higher in the years to come. So if you really don't want to spend that much there are options. You just have to do some homework first.

I think it should be discussed, but I won't argue for it...I mean, there's a perfectly guest assessable way that isn't unscrupulous at all and never leaves guest areas among the many ways, I don't see why that one can't be discussed...

Please do your homework - Rockit was down the other day (I'm assuming that's when you went) because the coaster happened to valley, supposedly due to high winds. They closed it for the day to make some adjustments and tidy up/repaint the queue. It doesn't regularly go down unless there's some sort of problem, it's running every day now.

I'm sorry about your food troubles, it does annoy me when they only run one side of the Cafeteria restaurants. You must have gotten unlucky on the vegetarian stuff, though, as my friend whom I often go with is a vegetarian and always has some sort of main course to eat at the restaurants...

I may be mistaken, but didn't they have to remove the Free Express due to a lawsuit from Disney? Again, could be a complete urban legend, but I remember hearing that... in any a case, I'm guessing having 3 forms of Express was a bit overkill, and the company IS trying to make a profit...

It lists on the front of the ride signs saying no photography... why would you be taking pictures inside rides? You can't do that on any Disney rides, either. Making Six Flags comparisons really makes no sense in this instance, anyway.

Finally, your last little quip kind of bothers me - sure, I guess you could pay $14 for access to the 4 lots, but they're all vast and uncovered and several miles apart from each other. At Universal, you park in a covered lot and have access to the entire resort via walking. Regardless the $14 charge is outrageous.

WOW

I bet you spend a lot of time in detention.

WOW okay, sorry? Don't tell me to do my homework, I simply was passing on information that I overheard. I don't go to Universal often at all, and that's what the employee said.

Again, sorry I don't know the ins and outs of Universal. Sorry that I don't "do my homework". Just personal opinion. Sorry that I don't research everything and spend hours looking up information. A couple of years ago, it was free. I didn't know it changed because of a law suit. Sorry that I don't care to look that up?

You really know how to bash people who have any opinion, and be rude about it. Try being nice? Your words really made me speechless. Forgive me for not being a theme park expert.

I didn't see any signs, and I wasn't using flash photography. I see dozens of people take pictures in rides, and I don't really see the issue if there aren't dozens of flashes going off (which is distracting, so I agree). The ride wasn't that great anyway.

My "quips" shouldn't bother you. You don't know me, I don't know you. We're both entitled to opinions.

What is unethical is a personal decision and it certainly is different than doing something that is blatantly wrong ... parking somewhere illegally etc.

Disney's transportation is free to all guests. Is it unethical to use it simply to avoid paying for parking? Maybe. Is it unethical for Disney to pay its workers a wage that has some living in cars? Or lay off two members of a family, so their stock looks better? Um ... yeah, I'd say so.

I could say more, but I'd really like this post to stay put.

But the bottom line is the more nickel and dimed Disney guests feel, the more they tend to try and 'get away with one' ...
