Parking going up to $14

I get the impression that there might be different languages being spoken in this thread, and there's so much euphemism and vague wording being tossed around that people might not even be aware they're not arguing over the same thing.

There have been at least two methods of avoiding the parking fee spelled out or alluded to in this thread. One involves parking at Downtown Disney and using Disney transportation to (eventually) get to a park. The other involves taking a few "creative" turns to bypass the toll booth, a method the moderators have made clear isn't to be explicitly discussed here.

It seems like 74 is clearly a proponent of the first method, and perhaps not so much the second. People like jakeman appear to be fervently opposed to the second, and perhaps not so much the first.

If that's the case, then the argument is pretty much nonexistent.

I am NEVER a proponent of stealing and that is one way of avoiding parking fees.

Parking at DD or a resort isn't the same thing, even if the result is.

And on the one way of avoiding parking fees that is clearly wrong, one must wonder how big an issue it was to Disney because they removed the guard gate (which was the first one ever on WDW property and there almost since Day 1) to allow dishonest people to ... well, in essence 'steal' ... totally not what I am talking about or advocating.

It's not about a mere price increase Jake. It's become about the constant price increases year after year. I just no longer feel that I am getting the quality experience I was before. I know there are many that feel differently, but that's just how I feel

I'll give you a silly little example of the nickle, and diming that set me off on my vacation in January. I went to the merchantile at WL to pick up a six pack of beer. Just like I've been doing for a decade. When we are done at the Parks I love going back to the room, sitting out on the balcony looking at Bay Lake, and having a couple of beers.

Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find even one six pack. There was nothing but single beers. The price for a single beer was $5.25, also a large increase. I asked the cashier about it, and she told me that food, and beverages had complained about lost sales at the restaurants, and bars. So this was their solution.

Before I had paid the inflated price of about $14 per six pack. No problem, heck it's WDW we all expect the Mouse to gouge us a little. Now I'm looking at the same thing costing me $31.50. The Mouse missed out on my money that trip. Food, and beverages have reached the point to where I just don't feel the quality is worth the price. I could always buy off property, but I felt offended that I had been forced into doing that after all these years. I use to really look forward to the meals at WDW. This last trip I had one meal that I felt was quality. Tutto Italia was an excellent meal. However that was $63 for 2 pasta dishes, and 2 beers, no apetizers, and no desserts. WDW has taken to boosting their menu several times a year now.

Ticket prices go up. Room rates go up. Parking goes up. Minature golf prices go up. Food prices go up. Beverage prices go up. Things that were once free now have a price put on them. I have just had enough. I will always love WDW. I will always post on WDW forums. I'm just not sure if I will ever return to WDW. I have reached my limit. I e-mailed about 8 Disney executives with my thoughts on my last trip. I also took a WDW survey where I went into detail about why they had lost my business.

So you see Jake I thought long, and hard about WDW, and the little insignificant price increases they have once or twice or three times a year. I finally decided to speak with my wallet. I know it's of no significance to Disney, but it is to me.

If you can find a ride to a hess on disney property prices are reasonable for beer and other things. And I agree with you it's not about my budget, but with the deluxe dining plan, many of the meals were just not that good. a couple orders had to be sent back due to being cooked improperly, and the waiter at yak and yeti actually advised us to stay away from certain selections.

next year we'll be in cancun, hopefully staying at sun palace. just tired of the prices increasing all the time and value diminishing at the same time.

No. That is you reading into what I said. My point was that Disney often acts in manners most rational people might consider unethical or immoral ... or just plain not nice. But for some reason, some folks believe individuals should be held to a higher moral level.
The rest of your post is just bogging the discussion down in semantics and your typical rants.

This is what you originally posted:

Disney's transportation is free to all guests. Is it unethical to use it simply to avoid paying for parking? Maybe. Is it unethical for Disney to pay its workers a wage that has some living in cars? Or lay off two members of a family, so their stock looks better? Um ... yeah, I'd say so.

You conditionally equated free parking to Disney's treatment of cast member.

I stated:

Irrelevant. The debatable ethical actions of a corporation does not absolve the individual of their requirement to act in a responsible manner.
Please point out where I said individuals have a higher standard?

Additionally, you completely ignored my post regarding how I use the word cheap as I don't consider it to have a wholy negative connotation.

I'm done with this conversation. It has turned into an arguement over the definition of "is".

Typhoon Lagoon runs from DtD for sure 100%. Everyone's allowed to be in DtD for free. I see a major loophole right there.

Where does the money for parking go?

Does it go into a general fund that can be used anywhere in WDW? Or, is it more specifically tied to just the transportation infrastructure and maintenance (even down to the level that Magic Kingdom parking is just for the Magic Kingdom area)?

I'd be curious if anyone here knows a bit more about the financials and budgeting of WDW. That would shed some light in determining if the price increase is merely profiteering or necessary (my guess is that it's a little bit of both).

Oh c'mon, Jake. I'd rather argue with you ... (unlike say JT) you sometimes make rational points, in between your near religious defending of Da Man (in this case, TDO).

Let's talk refillable mugs ... or how about ECVs and double-wide strollers ... or the constant upward movement of food prices while the quality and portions suffer.

Must be something in there you can defend Disney for ...
