Parking going up to $14

I am trying to remember something within the cobweb-laden attic that is my mind. When Disney's MGM was first set to open, wasn't there a story in the news regarding a survey taken by Disney to determine what to charge for admission? I believe I remember that they wanted to charge less than the price that was actually set for admission (due to the competition from Universal Studios), but their surveys showed that people expected to pay more and felt that a cheaper admission price was the equivalent of an inferior vacation experience. The general public actually drove up the cost! We can not mindlessly accept higher prices simply because they exist elsewhere. If we expect to pay big money as consumers, our willingness will always guide those who affect our wallets.

This is the truth of the free market.

The reason why diamonds are more expensive that CZ.

The reason why Sony > LG > Vizio for flat panel TVs.

The market determines the price.

It is worth what is being paid for it.

Period.

If it is not worth it to you, do not pay.

Wow.

I kinda see why they need to charge parking for road maintenance and efforts to encourage the use of public transport etc but $14 per car is just crazy.

Universal raised their parking to $14 as well. So Disney is not the only one, just the trend starter.

Yep. They did it just because Disney did. And they used to have free parking after 6PM. Now it's full price until 8PM then it's $3 from 8PM to 10PM. But then again Universal has always been about making money in my opinion.

As opposed to the little mom-and-pop non-profit down the road in Lake Buena Vista?

Are you referring to Disney? Because don't get me started about all of the little things that you get when you go to the parks that don't even cost a dime...like guest service, free fast passes for everyone, individual attention and parks being open past 6PM.

:brick: :hammer:

Disney is just as much about making money as Universal is.

Are you suggesting that Disney's 7day hopper is 2.5x more expensive than Universal's 7 day hopper because they are trying to make money???

No, but I AM suggesting that there is NO REASON to spend 7 days at Universal.

I would definitely run out of things to do at Universal by day three; while Disney I would still be busting chops on day 8.

Ah yes, but Universal doesn't really have an excuse other than just wanting to make more money. No recent new shows, parades, attractions or other entertainment. It's just because the "park down the road" is doing it so they think they should raise it as well.

Except...you know they just built that big E-ticket roller coaster. And they actually have a night time entertainment district.

Some of that, especially fast passes really are not free. Just because the machine that spits them out doesn't require a credit card doesn't mean you didnt pay for it at some point (whether it be ticket costs or hotel costs).

Disney, just like Universal, is a public company and there main goal is to make money for their shareholders.

nothing at disney is free, but it is well worth it as compared to universal. Staying on site , imo, pays for itself. and hopper passes allow you the use of all the transportation. Off site, pay parking plus hotel, on site, same price but transportation included. Its disneys way of saying, hey stay here and we will make it easy for you, or stay off site and pay the same as you would have on site but with more hassle and and nickle and diming.

I think staying offsite is cheaper. Equal accommodations in size/amenities offisite is not the same cost as a Disney property. I can stay at a Courtyard 2 miles from Disney for the same price as the value resorts, have a bigger room, get free internet and breakfast, free shuttle to the parks (granted on a bit more rigid schedule) and then use Disney transportation to park hop.

I'd argue the Courtyard is more aligned to a Disney moderate in size of room. So cheaper.

Even when we stay on property we tend to rent a car for convenience sake and to be able to get to other resorts for dinner and/or shows.

Yeah... no new attractions at all... except for that big, you know, giant roller coaster they just put up... and Disney sure has added a lot of attractions in the past couple months to warrant the price increase, right?

I don't like the price hikes more than anyone else, but this whole "Disney's was justified while Universal's was bullcrap" mentality is beyond ridiculous.

WDW- We Drain Wallets :zipit:

It's DISNEY WORLD. Forget the amusement parks, Disney isn't an amusement park. They don't compare in terms of Customer Serivice and quality. No amount of money will change the fact that Disney is one of my favorite places in the world; they do a good job at keeping me happy. Disney is special for me, it's a place where I have enjoyed so many good family memories.

But I won't deny the REAL meaning of WDW...:lookaroun I don't like rising prices either; life moves on.
