Our last minute first ever trip without the kids: August 2009

Well, we did it. We actually took a trip to the world without our four kids. I really felt kind of bad about taking a trip without them, but after our fiascos on the plane I'm really glad we did it. I'm sure on our next trip our kids will be the best behaved young ones ever. :D

So let's back up a bit. It all started when my dh, Sam, came home from work after hearing about low airfares. He went straight to the computer and started looking at booking a quick trip for the two of us. I rolled my eyes at him and thought that he could look all he wanted, but there was no way we were taking a trip! Then, he started looking into disney...:lookaroun

I started thinking how we really deserved this trip...I had just finished school and got my license to teach, I had had eye surgery in June to correct a detached retina, Sam had been working a lot of overtime...we could use a break. Then we realized that if we used our points, we would only need to pay for air fare and food for this trip. Sold!!! :sohappy:

I booked the next day and the only thing available was Saratoga or Old Key West. We had never stayed at OKW, so we booked a studio. We waitlisted for BWV, but with only a month to be on the waitlist I figured we would never get it. We were happy to try something new anyway. We were very excited to get our vacation info in the mail!

Here we are all ready to go, when two days before we get off the waitlist it actually comes through!! Now we have to get into the mindset of staying at BWV. I think we can manage!

Booooo.... no characters at the teardrop. You do get points for trying, though!

I agree about Kali... the queue is so much better than the ride!

Oh, yea, I was super cute in my poncho. At least everyone else looked as ridiculous as I did.

I can't say for sure but I think I'd rather have the hot and rain instead of the cold and rain. I wouldn't want to be wet and freezing at the same time!

I am shocked that you got BoardWalk on such short notice (it gives us hope that we'll be able to get BLT, BWV, or BCV at 7 months!). That is awesome; and your room at BoardWalk looks great, too.

I also think it's cool that you did the Breakfastasaurus with just the two of you. Sarah and I always get asked "how many children?" when we book our character dining, and feel odd saying "0". We are all kids at WDW (but I don't think that's what they mean!).

Can't wait to see more!

We were really shocked too. Sam kept saying we're never going to get it, but I kept checking our reservations each day just to be sure. I couldn't believe that I was reading it correctly once it actually said Boardwalk Villas. We're hoping that if we have to waitlist 7 months out for BLT or something that we'll have a chance.

Yes, if we wanted a breakfast buffet we kind of had to do characters. We had Crystal Palace reservations too and that one was really fun. And at the last minute we did Cape May on our last day. It was actually more fun than I had imagined doing character meals without the kids.

love the trip report!

Thanks!

August 27

Today didn't start out as we had planned. It was my fault again. I had planned to go to emh at the MK. This would require me getting up and showered right away. I heard the alarm and rolled over. So we ended up getting out the door much later than we had anticipated. Oh, well, we're on vacation and it's just the two of us.

I always make the kids take pictures by our hotel room door. So we figured we should do it too so that we could show the kids what room we had.

At this point Sam and I were arguing about who was the better photographer. Now I'm no expert, but I do at least try to think about the composition of my shot etc. Notice how Sam has so much space in his frame. He said this lens is horrible and he is in no way to blame. We talked about this a lot on this trip.

This really reminds me of DCA. It's the rug in the hallway.

We may be late, but we finally made it.

Now, normally I'm not an AC kind of person. I always think it makes things too cold. However, on this trip it was so humid, that every chance we got, we would walk through gift shops just to get a moment out of the heat. Sam thought this was so funny. He commented a lot on this as well this trip. So on one of our walks through a gift shop I took this one for you, Louella. They actually are pretty cute even though I didn't purchase any.

We headed toward Adventureland first. We rode Jungle Cruise and had a pretty lame boat. I felt a bit for the skipper.

We decided to eat an early lunch since we had an early dinner ressie at CP. I was annoyed that Sam chose this time to get on the phone to talk to his mom and the kids. It seemed that he spent a lot of time on the phone. I got bored waiting for him to be done so I just started snapping pictures. Now you can be bored with me.

IMG_4334.jpg

Really, the phone again? I have so many shots like this!

So he got me back. The kids of course wanted to talk to me too.

Sam didn't want a burger again, yet somehow we ended up at Pecos Bills. He took full advantage of the toppings bar. I wasn't even sure how he was going to get his burger in his mouth!

I'm not sure how Sam managed to walk out of lunch, but he did. And to our excitement we saw Cowboy Goofy out taking pictures with hardly any line at all! Now that was one we were going to stop for, Holly!

After our meeting with Goofy, we decided to go into the Hall of Presidents. I'm ashamed to say that this was my first viewing. It was totally moving and I'm making the kids go next time.

Now I swear that the sweaty sheen on my skin is actually the sunscreen I applied while waiting to see Goofy. Really, it is...

IMG_4354.jpg

After being moved to tears, it was time for another ride on one of my favorites.

And we took another ride on BTMRR. Really without the kids we spend a lot of time in this part of the park it seemed.

This is my hilarious attempt to take pictures while riding. I was bouncing around so much and laughing.

We decided to take the train around to Main Street again. We also spent more time than normal on the train. For some reason Sam really loves it.

It was so weird to see the halloween decorations out already. They had a party scheduled for the beginning of September so I suppose they had to start getting ready.

IMG_4371.jpg

And another visit into a store.
Sam: I can't believe that you want to get into the air conditioning-it's so weird!
Jenn: Shut up, it's hot!

Woohoo... love Cowboy Goofy! And if I'm not mistaken, you've got guns blazing in the picture. Awesome! I really like all the Frontierland/BTMRR pictures, too.
