Oh, those poor Ingalls girls...

I tend to go with the "just another cycle" theory. If the Mayans had survived, I believe they would have made a new calendar by now for the next cycle, just like you or I might go out and buy a new paper one each year.

Theirs just covers a much, much larger time span. I guess it's because they didn't have the same number of daily events/appointments/etc to keep track of. ;)

It appears that I can take a vacation (more or less) from cooking on Christmas Day. Got gifts of a Wolferman breakfast basket (coffee, English muffins, scones, jam) along with two kringles (a coffee cake) and a Honey Baked ham. My husband came home with two dozen grapefruit to add to the dozen or so tangerines and oranges we already have left over from the batch we got last week. Also got a basket of apples, so I'll be making a pie or two Monday. A wine gift was not delivered yesterday because an adult has to sign for it, and I wasn't home, but it'll arrive Monday.

We've also gotten assorted chocolates, popcorn, etc.

So all I'll have to do Christmas Day is put some potatoes (both sweet and white) in the oven, and make some vegetables.

Christmas Eve we always have soup, fresh rolls, and salad. That way I can keep it warm in the crock pot and people can eat whenever. Someone is always doing one last bit of shopping or wrapping, I usually go to a church service with whomever wants to go with me, and lately I've had an airport run - so it's getting harder to have a family sit down. My church trip is based upon flight times - I have my choice of three different services, but I'm finding it harder to stay awake for the latest one.

Christmas Eve church and dinner with my husband, kids, son-in-law, and soon-to-be- daughter-in-law, then Christmas day dinner with Dave's family. Dave does a lot of the cooking, I do the baking.
We'll see my extended family next weekend.

Merry Christmas to you!!!

Looking forward to a parade of seafood tonight, the hour long Disney commercial tomorrow morning, and my favorite - green bean casserole - for Christmas dinner.

Wishing you all the joys of the season! :)

What a great day!! Aside from my daughter hating the first thing she opened (she later came around on it) - we got to relax at home with family and I didn't overcook dinner (actually EVERYTHING was quite tasty which is a rarity in my kitchen!!!)

Yesterday was rough (1st Xmas without Mom), but we got through it. Keeping Dad occupied & his mind off things really helps. He seemed to have a good Xmas despite it all.
No snow either!! :( *runs outside and does snow dance in front lawn while chanting*

Hope everyone had a great day (which sounds so far like everyone did).

Now begins...DIET season! That's right folks...I'm for real this time.

*Edit* Diet failed. Tomorrow begins diet season!

I was thinking about you yesterday - that first year is the roughest one, but you'll always feel that loss.
Diet season has been happening here since the fall, but not as successfully as I would like. My son is getting married in May, so at least I have that as an incentive.

I saw that too. Crazy weather this week. My son is driving back to Long Island tonight (once his laundry is done), and I'm not liking the forecast I'm seeing. He has to work tomorrow though so he really has to go today.

Keeping busy tended to be the best medicine. Dad's a lot like this also, but when I just sit & think, that's when it hurts the worst. But having family come by, going to see family, going to candlelight service, etc etc helped us get through the holidays. (Plus, we spoiled Dad rotten w/ gifts, as that was his spouse of almost 40 yrs, & he needed a good Christmas now more than ever). But I think what made him the happiest more than anything was having everybody in town for Christmas.

Congrats on gaining a family member in May, Nemo14! The start of a new year is a great time to start fresh with diets, or whatever our goals may be, but upcoming weddings make good reasons too.

Grief is a funny thing - it catches you by surprise just when you think you're OK about it. When I was living in Arizona afte my dad passed I actually dialed the phone to ask him about a problem I was having with my car. When my mom answered, it hit me, and I just fell apart.
Anyway, hang in there, Saget!

Just heard from DS - roads are bad already, so he's coming back this way and taking a vacation day tomorrow.

I really hate winter!!!

I remember it hitting me when I was driving from JAX to Sarasota, about 6 months after my mother died. Something triggered a crying jag that lasted about 30 mins.
