NYT: "Universal....Takes Aim at Disney"

I hope it is something relatively basic as there just is not enough room in that area to do a major franchise any justice. Certainly not LotR. My guess is Transformers if they have decided to keep MSHI.
you said when they tore down the Hard Rock that it was going to be a giant expansion plot and that was were transformers or some other giant franchise would go......ugh brb so i can find and grab the quote

Anyone have any inside news about attractions slated to open before Potter 2.0 and a new Kidzone? Specifically, I've heard rumblings about a new attraction for Jurassic Park Land.

Universal better get busy because I am hearing they no longer have the 'premiere' theme park attraction in the world as many have claimed. LMAO! :)

Nope, that honor now belongs to Radiator Springs Racers brought to you by the team of Iger & Lasseter and sponsored by Pixar's classic franchise Cars!

Move over Mr Potter or get run over by a mouse. :D

Ugh... Why am I doing this... Here goes...

First off, RSR is at DL, which is almost universally applauded as a whole by every single person here. I have no idea what RSR has to do with Florida or WDW. Neither do you.

That being said... RSR, while it looks incredible, is a re-dressed and re-used ride system. It's TT with a different wrapping on the package. It's JTTCOTE. FJ is a unique ride system, completely inventive and does something that literally no other attraction on earth does. There are 3 different versions of TT out there. I'm not knocking RSR, because as I said, it looks like a bona-fide E ticket that was really done right, with impressive vistas. But when it comes down to it, it's the same ride you've already been on (although apparently not for YEARS) but with some large AA's throughout the ride. You've never been on anything comperable to FJ... And I'm guessing you probably STILL won't for quite some time... Although you'll continue to speak as if you have.

As has been said with "Fievel"and "ET" and "Jurrasic Park", though i love and adore these rides kids are not going to know what they are in the very near future! doubtful of a Jurrasic Park exspansion and Fievel i had already forgotten about! But i think you are right and they will be updated, as i have said before universal orlando is in its "eisner" decade of expansion! :)

I can't agree with you on ET or Jurrasic. Those are both timeless classics that generations will be familiar with. Each was groundbreaking in so many ways.

Can we start speculating on what's replacing Kidzone now? Not that JT's trolling isn't entertaning... like someone throwing a dart in your eye.

Could it be Madagascar Land or Sci Fi City from Singapore? The Transformers ride would go pretty well there. Or is this Lord Of The Rings?
If Lord of the Rings gets built, it will be at Islands of Adventure.

As for the Kidzone replacement, I have no idea. Seems that ET would remain but get an overhaul.

And Jurassic Park isn't going anywhere or disappearing from public any time soon.. There is Jurassic Park 3D coming to theaters and rumors of a 4th installment of the movie... E.T. is being released on Blu Ray...

I agree their timeless but i think they are overlooked by CGI films and kids will remember that instead of these quality films! Its sad but i thought jaws was a classic ride and i think the film still is but the ride went bye bye! If they get rid of ET though i may kill someone lol :)

2) I will just say about Potter 2.0 what the cynics here say about AvatarLand. I will believe it when I see it.

It's really just a Jaws "prefurb."

You doubt Potter happening? There are already permits for crying out loud that prove UOR is getting the Hogwarts Express. And permits have been filed for other parts of the expansion as well. Here are the train permits: http://parkscope.blogspot.com/2012/06/uor-permit-update-6112.html

Not just that but there is a company, Nassal, which I read on another site, has already started working on Potter 2.0 stuff for Universal...

I see what you are saying about Jurassic Park being an older franchise at this point, but I still think the rumours I've heard of a new ride in JP land are believable. As someone already said, Jurassic Park 3D is being released. But in addition to that, a Jurassic Park 4 has been confirmed by Spielberg (and already has its own imdb page). Also, as far as themed lands goes, a dinosaur park is pretty timeless. Even if kids know nothing of the movies, they are still impressed by dinosaurs (which seem to be the most popular section of any natural history museum).

Very possible... I'm curious to see what they do with KidZone... I like E.T. but I hate the seats you have to sit in to ride it...

One thing that would be nice (that I don't think Uni does much) is a Disney-style refurb to an existing attraction. I can't think of many attractions they've done this to that didn't result in a completely new overlay or retheme (except for recently with Spidey and a while back when Earthquake was redubbed Disaster!) Would be nice to see E.T. closed for an extensive refurb that included show and infrastructure enhancements.

Of course when I say Disney-style refurb I am not talking about Space or SSE...

1) You obviously are not paying close attention to NextGen news and what it is intended to do.

2) I will just say about Potter 2.0 what the cynics here say about AvatarLand. I will believe it when I see it.

3) OK, a dole whip then?

A) I will give you that they may be attempting to fix the cattle problem with NextGen fastpass. But you can't really judge or say that it does until it comes out. From what I read, it could work really well...or it could flop badly and just make everything into an overcomplicated mess. It could also alienate a decent amount of people by given so much priority to guests who are on the property that it drives others to stay away from Disney

B) Potter 2.0 is not some hypothetical land that no one has see any work done on. There is a giant hole over where Jaws used to be. Google it. And we confirmed reports from people on here who are insiders for Universal as to what it is. We know about rides that are going in. The only thing we've heard about Avatarland is that it may involve a flying. But even that is just a hypothetical. Potter 2.0 will exist in 2.5-3 years. Avatarland is a big fat maybe.

C) Also, I've never had a Dole Whip so I don't know if I like them. (Shocking, I know. It just was never a priority for my family to get one. I do intend to remedy that on my next trip)

Universal better get busy because I am hearing they no longer have the 'premiere' theme park attraction in the world as many have claimed. LMAO! :)

RSR looks like a great attraction but I haven't heard anybody call it the "premiere" attraction in the world. It very well may be. But again, "you are hearing" something...another unsubstantiated fact. Classic #4 JT. Classic #4. And also #6...."Universal better get busy"...see B) above. They are getting busy. They are developing new rides which sound like, especially with the train ride, could blow anything else out of the water...and you see I'm not pulling those facts out of my as*. Whylightbulb seems to be pretty darn trustworthy. Lastly, you definitely can't give Iger credit for this one. And Lassester is great but again, it's not like WDW is going to get this attraction...even if RSR is the new premiere attraction in the world (which is suspect), the premiere attraction in Orlando is still HP

1)RSR is what we all know WDI can do given the resources. And it will be proof positive that doing so is EXTREMELY profitable. Success has a way a creating more success. And I think that is what you will see including at WDW.

2)And it is never to late to fix something. FL was cursed for nearly half a century when 20K was green-lighted. They had to get that investment back. Now the remedy is here and judging by the buzz many are delighted.

3)I'm guessing we have only seen the first chapter of the "book" Lasseter is writing.

1)It may be proof positive that doing such things is extremely profitable...though heck you could argue the same thing about HP. They made their investment back in 8 weeks as someone said. "Success has a way of creating more success"...like having Potter 1.0 lead the way to Potter 2.0 and more if what we are hearing is correct. But anyways, it could very well spur TDO to do some great things at WDW. I actually hope so but they are going to have a hard time breaking their habit of constantly cutting back over the past 10 or so years. The biggest driving force will be when they start losing too much money to the competitors. Its how business works.

2) True it's never too late to fix something. It doesn't change the fact that it was still too late. And yes the buzz is that it's delightful and I'm sure it is great. That being said, most people don't want just delightful. The want Disney pushing the boundaries and doing what we all know Disney is capable of. Doing what it used to do all the time. New FLE, while good, doesn't seem to be doing that...one of their biggest new things is a Meet and Greet. That says something

3) When Lasseter actually gets involved with WDW then we'll talk

I hope it is something relatively basic as there just is not enough room in that area to do a major franchise any justice. Certainly not LotR. My guess is Transformers if they have decided to keep MSHI.

Who hopes for something "relatively basic"? No, there isn't a lot of room there but if there is one management staff who knows how to manage and use small spaces effectively, it's Universal.

I have been a Universal passholder for 7 years and I am still amazed how much HP has changed IOA. That park is crazy busy all the time now. Even during the slow times of the year it is busy. I have never seen an addition do something like that to a park. It isn't just about the ride, it is the whole experience. Something that Disney seems to have gotten right with Carsland but there is nothing comparable here in Florida. I have never seen money spent the way it is in Potterland. Just stand by the cash registers at the gift shop at the exit of FJ and your jaw will drop to the floor. This isn't just about attendance this is about spending and per guest spending has gone way up since the debut of HP at Universal.
Yes, I'm hard pressed to think of another opening that has had such an impact on a theme park in central Florida. Can anyone think of another opening that had such a tremendous "before and after" effect? (Yes, the opening of the Magic Kingdom but I mean an expansion to an existing resort.:)) I don't recall the openings of Epcot, DHS, DAK, or IOA making this big of a difference. I remember lots of people talking about Epcot when it opened: "Now that Disney World has another theme park, we'll have to go again." However, the Magic Kingdom was already popular. Did attendance jump this much? IOA attendance was suffering prior to WWOHP. Now it feels like a different theme park.
