New Thomas Kinkade Disney painting: "Tinkerbell and Peter Pan Fly to Neverland"

We had the whole Thomas Kinkade debate in the first thread I posted back when he released the Cinderella castle pic, remember?

I would assume by now that forum members who are not fans of Thomas Kinkade would not waste their time opening a thread about one of his paintings. He is doing a series, so there will be more, and I will continue to post about them for people who are interested.

Comment all you like on the painting, positive or negative, but can we please not turn my thread into another Thomas Kinkade debate? We've been there and done that. If you really feel the need to debate the man's artisitc talent or lack thereof, maybe you could start your own thread in chit chat, since his style or abilities have nothing to do with Disney.
Well, perhaps if you would have posted this in the thread that you had already started on the matter, new members would have seen the debate and saved their time. I am sorry if I spoiled your thread. :)

So...Kinkade's abilities aside, I think it's kind of ironic to criticize a painter for being too cliche or cute in visualizing Disney scenes, of all things.

One of the biggest knocks against Disney has always been that they take dark, complex stories, strip away any nuance, and throw in a bunch of precious woodland creatures and a happy ending.

A lot of critics would probably call Walt Disney the Thomas Kinkade of moviemaking.

You seriously just compared Walt Dinsey's classics to Kinkade? Seriously? That is the WORST comparison ever. When thinking in terms of movies, weather you like them of not Walt Disney's creations ARE classic. Just like Gone With the Wind and Wizard of oz. When people think of classic art they think of...Van Goh, michael angelo all of the "typical" famous painters out there. Nobody would say, if asked that Thomas Kinkade is classic. Sorry. Thats not to say that there aren't better movies than Disney, because there are. The same with artists. Van Goh's Starry Night may be one of the most famous but its not the best. So, if anything Disney movies are at the very least, the Vincent Van Goah of movie making.

One last thought to ponder, Thomas Kinkade is painting Disney, Disney isn't painting Thomas.

I'd argue the only reason Disney movies are "classics" is because they've been around forever and people enjoyed them as kids, not because they define the craft of filmmaking in the way Van Gogh and Michaelangelo define their crafts.

Aesthetically, I still think it's a little inconsistent to knock a guy for making cute, sappy paintings based on cute, sappy movies, but...that's why we all have opinions. Keeps things innerestin'. :)

Ok, toss away all of the classic talk. How about groundbreaking then? One movie title for you: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And because of the issue of breaking new ground, in turn the film becomes a classic. Thomas K will never be groundbreaking OR classic.

But it does have something to do with Disney.

If you posted the newest BigFig someone would say they like it, others would say not.

If you posted news about a reid refurb, there would be those who like it and those who dont.

This is a Disney collectable. I don't happen to like it. It's not a knock on anyone who does, and neither is my opinon of art gospel.

If you simply wanted to announce that its available, we could have locked the thread after your original poste.

I for one would like to see some more "traditional" disney art work. I happend to like "The Pearl at Night" and came quite close to buying it - I just could not figure out where to put it (and the frame did not thrill me). This whole "painting with light" stuff does not thrill me.

Fair nuff. I'll meet you there. Walt definitely put out some groundbreaking stuff.

(Schmaltzy, overly sentimental, groundbreaking stuff.) :lookaroun

By the way, Ringgold is about two hours across Hwy 20 and up I-75 from me, so we can finish this over coffee if you like.

Sounds good to me! That is really awesome! I love my lil' town. I STAY in the Chattanooga area. I work there. SO nice. :)

Btw, Snow White(I am sure you know) was the first ever Animated motion picture and has been voted countless times as the number one animated film...(wait for it)...of all time. Ok, i will stop now. lol :)
