Mama Mia

So DW and I actually had a date night. Her dad volunteered to let the DD sleep over! WOOHOO!

So I let DW pick the movie...Mama Mia (and I'm thinking mama mia, ya know?:hammer:) BUT...this was THE best movie I've seen in a long time, and now ranks among one of my most favorite movies!

If you haven't gone to see...GO! Awesome movie!:sohappy:

OH...and there's a trailer for HSM3 at the beginning too!

I went to see the Mummy today.

It actually wasn't as bad as everybody is making it out to be. No, it won't win any awards...but it's a popcorn movie. I never liked the Mummy movies but I would say I enjoyed this one the most of the three.

I just saw it too, and I thought it was just okay. Not terrible, but watchable.

But man oh man, if you thought the scorpion king was bad CGI, just wait till you see this movie. The scorpion king is like Davy Jones compared to the SFX in this movie. The yetis were horrible looking and their movements were clearly not motion captured. Plus all the CGI creatures seemed to be moving at a fast pace, almost as if the movie was fast forwarding.

Oh well, but it was still a watchable and somewhat enjoyable movie.

Saw it on Saturday, wasn't too bad. It's always good to see Brendan Fraser - he hasn't done a whole lot since The Mummy Returns. John Hannah was also great. My main complaints were the CGI and Maria Bello... I'm a fan but she was terrible here.

I thought the only person with bad acting...was FRASER! He's a HORRIBLE actor. That dialogue between him and his son was laughable. He's good at his comedic delivery...but give him any bit of dialogue that doesn't end in a punchline...and it's cringe-worthy.

Why did the Yetis look more like cats than apes?

EDIT: As far as the CGI is concerned...when did the Mummy movies have good CGI?

I think the first movie had SFX that were pretty good for their time and while not totally convincing by todays standards, still pretty believable. And I think the mummy returns had mostly good SFX with the exception of the scorpion king.

And in the case of the scorpion king, the actual scorpion body looked okaky, but it was the Rock's CGI upper half on the body that made it fake looking. They should of either filmed the rock on a green screen and put it on the body, or made the Rock's upper half be qrotesque with scorpion-like skin like I saw on the concept art on the DVD. That would've worked alot better I think.

I think it was more of the script's fault than anything. A lot of the jokes didn't work at all and there was a bit too much "OMG here we go again/reference to first two films" stuff.

I was watching the first film on Starz or something last night... CGI was definitely laughable but I'm guessing it was good for the time. But the CGI was pretty good in the second one.

Pineapple Express tomorrow!

For some reason the whole family is turning out for it. I guess after all these great, but depressing movies like Dark Knight we all just want to see two stoned guys get shot at.

Looks like you'll have two weeks in a row of that

(Tropic Thunder)

Me, I personally can't WAIT to see the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. I didn't see the first one and I hope I won't be lost! :lookaroun

I was a bit disappointed with Pineapple Express. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was funny and is worth a view, but IMO it doesn't come close to Superbad, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc. in terms of comedy. James Franco was awesome, Seth Rogen was his usual self, and both Danny McBride and Craig Robinson (Darryl from The Office) put up great supporting performances.

Still can't wait for Tropic Thunder next week though... think I'll have to do the midnight show.

Well I haven't seen those three, so I should be impressed.

Tropic Thunder is the one I'm REALLY looking forward too, but I don't think I'll get to see it opening week due to conflicting schedules of my movie-watching team.

Has anyone listened to the soundtrack for Clone Wars? It is COOL sounding. Its not John Williams unfortunately, nor does it sound like it. Its more like a Matrix/300ified version of Star Wars music but its really cool sounding, I like it.

Terrible news folks. Half Blood Prince's release has been delayed until next July.

Apparently its because of the writer's strike and stuff, but wouldn't you think they'd announce it sooner instead of now?

Ugh, what a dissapointment.:brick:

They're just trying to milk Harry for all they can by shortening the span between films 6 and 7 part one. The writer's strike is allegedly delaying 7.
