Most Disappointing Meal in WDW?

I'm glad to hear that! I was looking forward to this place next trip. I was very sad to see it go as a counter-service place. It was my very favorite. It's too bad they can't fit both in back there.

King,

You will not be dissappointed in Tusker House, try the African beers. Food was very good, including a seafood gumbo that was outstanding. ENJOY

Almost all of the counter-service food at WDW is overpriced crap and I was disappointed by all of it. Busch Gardens in Tampa has the best counter-service food I have ever had at an amusement park. After eating Disney's smashed burgers with bacon discs, pizza, and hot dogs for a week, the massive basket of chicken fingers and fries I got for the same price at Busch Gardens was like a gift from the heavens.

As far as table-service food, I can't comment since I have never had it at WDW.

Dude, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Disney's hamburgers are, well, just okay hamburgers. They're nothing great, but not horrible. Anyway, I've been to WDW over 100 times and have eaten at most 10 hamburgers there. If you tried the food that WS is known for, like Tangierine Cafe, Sommerfest, or Yakitori House, you might be surprised.

One of the problems I have been seeing on this board is not the level of quality in the food at WDW but the differences in people. I am a certified foodie...I eat everything and have trained my mouth to pick up on some of the more, lets say "passive" flavors in the culinary spectrum. Trust me, WDW is wonderful for someone like me. If you are trying to rate the food at a counter service...heres a newsflash...its supposed to be humdrum pablum stuff...your wasting your time if your trying to find some greater "experience"...this really also goes for places like Whispering Canyon or Sci-Fi...your paying for the atmosphere...not the food or the service...so wise up. Now...Victoria and Alberts, California Grill, Artists Point etc...these are places where, if all you eat on a day to day basis is hot dog, hamburger, pizza, tuna helper...guess what, the true complexity of the flavor will pass right by you. Like the monorail en route to MK.

I was disappointed with Liberty Tree Tavern. I heard good things about it and was looking forward to it and I found it to be bland and tasteless. The turkey was dry, the gravy was gross and the mac and cheese was tasteless. I was not impressed with what seemed to be warmed up Stoffer's food. Maybe it was it off night but I was disappointed.

The lady that served us in Japan didn't bring me my entree because she misunderstood and didn't recognize my order. So I had to sit and watch DH eat and wound up getting something as we walked through WS.

When I finally asked about my order she was very very embarrased and upset. It was kind of funny to me, no biggie...not like there is no food anywhere in EPCOT......

I kept thinking it was taking that chef FOREVER to get my order cooked.

And the waitress was just so cute - it's hard to get upset when the girl is cute....

Wow that was just the most positive-driven opinion I have ever read!

It isn't supposed to be gaurmet but it is your opinion.

I have had some less than memorable experiences at Coral Reef and Boma's at the AKL (YUCK) .... These are highly NOT recommended.

My family was really excited to eat at the San Angel in Epcot. I'd wanted to eat there for years. It wasn't really what any of us expected, and despite rave reviews from other people, it didn't click with us.

I loved the environment, but was just disappointed with the menu options.

I will second this one. Had been looking and waiting to eat here for years and years. Was on my fiance's list of places she really wanted to eat, so I was killing to birds with one stone.

I should have kept the stone and thrown it somewhere else. Service wasn't great and the food.....left a little to be desired.

On my list of never to visit again.

I was disappointed with the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. We ate there a couple of years ago and liked it, and had been disappointed that it hadn't been open our last few trips. But it was in May. But the menu has changed - and not for the better. I had the chicken noodle bowl for $7. 19 and the chicken was flaked chicken from a tin - I'm sure. I've never seen chicken like that served in Asian food. It simply doesn't exist. And the canned noodles were taste-less, as was the sauce. Ironically, I was surveyed upon exiting and gave my frank opinion. It was the only meal of the trip that I disliked.

My wife and I were very disappointed in the California Grill. Everything we had read on this site led us to believe that it was a quiet, classy dining establishment...one that would be conducive for a nice meal with another couple. I guess the dress code is part of what led us to that conclusion. My wife was excited about having an evening out where she could freshen up in the hotel, put on a nice outfit and go out to supper with Fizzle75 and his wife, Skeeder (as opposed to being in a theme park and eating at one of their restaraunts in our regular theme park clothes).

We were disappointed in the evening and in the restaraunt itself. As far as the evening itself goes, the weather is obviously an act of God and the restaraunt can't be blamed for that. On that April evening, it was cold and windy, so there went my expectations of a nice time after supper standing outside watching Wishes. Again, that can't reflect on the restaraunt because they can't control the weather.

But as far as the restaraunt goes, it was noisy, so there went the plans of a nice quiet supper with friends and good dinnertime conversation. I don't like having to lean in to speak or hear, and I don't like having to talk over the noise, but that is just what we experienced. There were people in there in basically theme park attire, so there went the dress code. And the food wasn't that good. At least mine wasn't. And the small portion that I got didn't justify the price that I paid for that meal.

The only redeeming factor about that evening was the nice company that we had with our friends. Other than that, I thought the restaraunt sucked.

Interesting comments on Cali Grill. I too thought it was more of a quiet, adults only place, but my brother and sister-in-law went there in May and said it was noisy with lots of children. They did say though that the food was excellent - the best sushi they'd ever had.

That's why I don't pay much attention to what others say about the food...there's just so many different tastes out there. Many people love the food at Cali Grill, whereas I'm just not partial to that kind of food. On the other hand, my wife and I both enjoyed Tony's Town Square, but my friend Fizzle and many others speak ill of it. And I can't imagine eating sushi no matter how it's prepared! :hurl::ROFLOL:

I agree with you up until you mention Cali Grill. I am just not seeing much "complexity in flavor" there. I have always lived in big cities and so to me, their food is somewhat old. Sushi has to be one of the most played out dishes on the face of the earth. I am also not that jazzed about flatbread. It is basically a glorified cracker. My biggest problem was their tenderloin. A restaurant that claims to be that complex should have Kobe beef or prime beef on their menu. Their beef is so-so and to me this is why they dress it up in a sauce. A good piece of beef does not need anything to mask it's great flavor. As far as the seafood, I was hoping to see some exotic sorts of fish on the menu. I can get that stuff anywhere. V&A and Artist's point, yes. Cali grill, ehh. I do realize that this is my opinion and that many others, including yourself, do appreciate the place. Maybe it's me.

Obviously there's a lot of different views about certain places. Even in the Unofficial Guide, their dining experts often have totally different views from their guest surveys.

I've heard more criticism of Tony's than any other TS, but I'm still willing to try it my next trip, more for the convenient location than anything else. So to the poster worried about their ADR at WCC: try it for yourself. It wasn't one of my favorites, but it wasn't bad and some people rave about it.

Most disappointing experiences:
1) Sci-Fi, mostly because the CMs seemed to resent our presence. It was mid-afternoon and they seemed to think we were interrupting their break time.
2) Chefs de France, but mostly because my 7 year old son drank half my glass of wine when I wasn't looking.

It funny how most of us have the same opinion of the same restaurants. Of course it depends on your tastes but if 10 people here tell me a restaurant stinks Im not going...

China (I cant remember the name of the Restaurant off the top of my head :brick:) but my mother got food poisoning there.

Rain forest cafe has gone waaaay way down hill over the years, the last time we ate there ('07) my meal was tasteless, literally tasteless, I passed my meal around the table just because it was astounding how tasteless it was, it was tasteless to everyone else too. My husband said his ribs were terrible, and they use to be very good....and what a price increase! I'm disappointed that the new T-REX restaurant is owned by RC. :(

Sci-Fi...nothing special, but I wanted my kids to see what a drive in movie was like.

Boma's at the AKL (YUCK)

Thats one of my favorite restaurants.

Yak and Yeti is also owned by the same company so you might want to stay away from there as well.

It's owned by the same company that owns which restaraunt? He mentioned several.

If you're referring to China and the food poisoning, you can get food poisoning anywhere, anytime. When my wife and I were dating, and for a little while after we were married, before we had a child and had extra money to spend (and before the high gas prices), we used to go out quite frequently and eat at Ryan's. One night we ate there and I got food poisoning somehow and felt miserable until the next day. But we continued to eat there again after that. That was the only time I got food poisoning there. Before and after that, our food was just fine.

My point is that every restaraunt is going to have its bad days. Whether we're talking about a day when it doesn't have any good help, or it has had several call ins and therefore very shorthanded, or days where it has a bad piece of meat that makes someone sick, or whatever. It happens. It doesn't make the restaraunt bad. It just means that we live in an imperfect world where things happen sometimes.

Sorry. Yak and Yeti, Rainforest Cafe, and T-Rex are all owned by Landry's which is based out of Texas.

I kind of see what you mean. The first time I want was in quiet season and the restaurant was fantastic. On my last trip in April it was less intimate and there were alot more kids than I expected (for a meal at 9.30pm). Still, I love the food and the service was great so I would happily go back there again.

In my 18 visits to WDW, I have never really had an aweful meal, at least not one that I can think of off the top of my head.
