I'm guessing the 3rd party businesses he was referring to are the shops/dining locations in World Showcase, not corporate sponsored pavilions (other than a possible agreement with Siemens, like Steve mentioned earlier).

Yep, and also add in all those corporate events that take place almost nightly based around RoE.

I would figure the fact that Illuminations is sponsored by Silvania / Siemens... not to mention as other have said... dinners and special events are booked around this show. Think of how many dessert / dinner buffets are booked in areas around the lagoon.

I hope that doesn't happen, but if it does.....

Not saying this wont happen, but the staffing issue sounds wrong. Fant and RoE use a massively different number of staff. The positions are also very specific, and I would doubt they could inter-change the staff like that.

The firework shows also order their pyro months (up to a year) in advance. It's always possible they could change things, or store product, but I think if this were the case, it would have leaked out already.

We can also look back at the bleak times of 2001 to 2003, and IllumiNations survived the cuts there. Just to put it in context for those who wernt around during that time, thinigs got so bad they closed Caribbean Beacn and Port Orleans completely.

The nightly fireworks at Epcot has long been the staple that keeps people in World Showcase eating and drinking all night. I just dont see them sacrificing that. We should also consider that Siemens are onboard for sponsoship of the show. I would think there would be contracts in place that would require a certain frequency of shows.

Ok, does any one remember early 93? mk opening at 10, alternate night showings of spectro & immuminations. Euro Disney was sinking the entire company & its american cousins were paying for it. During this bleak time i could almost see this happening again.:hammer:

Well said. And incidentally, the pyrotechnics for ROE cost 7800 dollars each night as of 2006.

Actually, I believe only Port Orleans (just the section that is now French Quarter. What is now Riverside was not closed) was the result of the slump in tourism back then. To lower their inventory of rooms that would have stayed empty anyway, they closed the smallest Moderate resort.

While Caribbean Beach was also closed for a period of time in that general time frame, I believe that was due more to the rennovation of their food court rather than a slump in tourism. With the food court closed entirely for rennovation, it left the resort with no food service at all. So, they decided to close the resort entirely during that rennovation.

With all these cutbacks they will have to change next years promotion from "What will you celebrate?" to "Celebration? What Celebration?"

Right it was for the foodcourt refurb, but the very fact they could close that many rooms for so long is an indication of how few rooms were booked.

So, yeah, I agree with Steve. They need IllumiNations to make the World go round.:D

So true because everyone working at pin central and the pin carts would miss their nightly show. I loved closing pins just so I could hear the music and fireworks. It was also fun when Illuminations ends and pins becomes a mini mosh pit and hard to move. We usually just stay in our corner behind the register:lol: Unless of course someone has a question.:animwink:

Wishes will have its showings cut before Illuminations. You can take this to the bank. There are "entanglements" that require Epcot to have a nightly fireworks show. You can thank the park being full of 3rd party businesses for this.

Ah, voices of reason; I love it! In all honesty, if it weren't for IllumiNations, there would be no one in Epcot by 8:30 (I know I probably wouldn't be there). After all, thats the reason a nightly fireworks show WAS put in Epcot: to keep people in the park till closing. I think Disney understands that. Besides, with Siemens providing (what I can imagine is) a significant chunk of money for the show, I think we can expect to see it every night in full glory. :)

That is correct.

Illuminations: ROE is going nowhere. There are actual contractual agreements that would have to be modified in order to cut it down on a regular basis (it could be cancelled if there was a weather or safety issue, obviously) and that won't happen.

Wishes could be cut, which I would think is reasonable.

Nightly fireworks are something that only began in 1996 for WDW's 25th Anniversary, as a matter of fact it was used as a selling point since they didn't add a thing to the MK for the milestone. But prior to that fireworks were held during summer, Christmas and Spring Break only. Indeed, there were times the MK would be open until 10 or 11 p.m. on say Veteran's Day weekend (to use an example) and NO fireworks were shown.

So nightly fireworks has been an actual improvement at WDW, although again it certainly is a very logical and smart place to cut if times are tough.

If one firework were to not be cut, it would be Illuminations.

Wishes would be cut LONG before Illuminations.

Disneyland goes without fireworks in the off season on weekdays. So losing Wishes wouldn't be a huge suprise.

Epcot makes SOOOOO much $$$$$$ on their evening meals. The back half of the park stays open late for 2 reasons. Sell lots of overpriced meals, and offer the late night show of Illuminations. Unlike all the other parks, there is no real "show" venue in the park. There is the American Adventure and 3D theaters, but there is no big "show". This is not only THE big show, it is 1/2 of the reason there is a split schedule for the park.

I debunk this rumor right now. How many Dinners would they lose a night by people leaving and heading to dinner elsewhere because the show is dark? I would say that the business they get for those dinners of people that watch Illuminations alone EASILY pays for the costs of the show. Even in the off season. That doesn't even include the extra $$$ made on popcorn (anybody else buy popcorn ONLY for the fireworks shows?) drinks (which they get for free) and extra shopping instead of leaving the park early?

Not happening. They'll scale back Wishes much earlier.
