MONORAIL EXPANSION COMING FOR EPCOT??

It was very difficult to build the loops that they have, theres a great article about it:

http://www.themeparktourist.com/fea...s-nearly-derailed-walt-disney-worlds-monorail

Disney doesn't not do things because they are difficult though.

Not to support the idea of a modern monorail upgrade, but most of that article highlighted the trouble of building the beams in Washington state and shipping them across country. What they leave out is Disney did it that way because they were in a rush (as was always the case back then). The more cost effective but time consuming method would have been to ship a set of beam molds and a team of people from Tacoma to setup a temporary plant onsite.

Fast forward some 45 years. The world is a different place. I could see the beams being built in batches in China and shipped through the Panama Canal. Sure, all the resources are available in Florida, but at scale China has the means to undercut anything which could be done locally.

I'll go a step further than most. Not only is the monorail not getting expanded, I don't want it to. It's a crummy mode of transportation that is fine as a gimmick on a fixed loop, but it's terribly inefficient and wholly inflexible.

Same with the boats. They don't require the capital but they're SLOW. Fort Wilderness is way closer to the Magic Kingdom than Animal Kingdom Lodge, but leave your room at the same time and the AKL buses will have you at the MK in the same amount of time.

No single mode of transportation can be expected not to break down or to single handedly be able to move every guest around to all the different destinations around the property. Monorail with Boats with Buses with ??? Though... that works everytime. I wish they would connect the property with bike trails as well every little thing could make the traffic system as a whole work more smoothly. But the monorails are Disney now whether its easy or not and while I get what you were saying about the entire system I proposed, a big part of Walt's vision for EPCOT was monorails linking to it and at the very least, EPCOT resorts need the connection to the station that was built for it at EPCOT. It's like grandpa left you a house in the will and you change certain things, but theres also special objects or spots that you don't touch out of reverence and respect to grandpa and the monorails are one of these objects/symbols at Disney, we can never get rid of them. Plus Disney is king of figuring out how to do things just because they are awesome, no other reason needs to be given.
I can see it now. Disney installs bike trails all over the place. Guest gets mauled by some wild animal. Disney installs rope and rock barriers on all bike paths. Guests quit using bike paths because of wild animal attack and Zika exposure.

See. It's not all about the money. It's common sense.

I've heard it cost around $1,000,000 a mile when the monorail line was originally built in the late '60s. Unless major improvement have been made to lower production cost of the cars and track I don't see an expansion of the line coming anytime soon.
If it could indeed be done at this price, Disney would jump on it. Sadly it is much much more expensive than that.

Yes... mine was an ultimate goal, I think just an EPCOT resort loop would be a great start, is long overdue, and could help a reimagining of EPCOT that is long overdue as well...

EPCOT resorts are in the least need of a monorail loop, since you already can either walk or take a boat from them to both Epcot and DHS.

Yup...but there was a time when Disney was bold enough to pioneer new technologies and inspire others to seek out new ways to look at a problem instead of doing what is cost effective all the time. They were (at one time) risk takers and dreamers...but those days have passed as I had said with Walt and Roy and that makes me sad to a point.

It's sad, but true. The old Disney was filled with technology/advancements of the future: The Monorail, Peoplemover, Mission to Mars, etc.

The new Disney is "the customer is going to pay"-IP. They'll happily plop some IP in some location and raise prices. That's today's Disney. If you have an idea that's the litmus test it needs to pass:
- Does it directly help increase the bottom line? (ie. Can you directly make money from it?)
- Is it IP related? (promotes a movie.. merchandise..)

The Monorail and Peoplemover are neither of those so they won't be expanded or added (Epcot could certainly use the Peoplemover and they even planned for it, which kind of sucks). That's the way it is.

If you're a Disney fan today then you should be happy that:
1) They're not raising prices higher than they have
2) The IPs at least mean that they're adding something

Innovation is out. IPs are in.

Let's just say there's a greater chance of Disney creating a teleportation system than expanding the monorail.

Well...They are...Kind of....For a Piece of crud....;)
