with EE it doesn't look like there is a new tech innovation...the coaster could well be like Space Mountain...but as I pointed out...there could be that new switching technology involved...not positive though

I agree. If Disney is calling EE something NEW and imaginative I am going to cry.

Mission:Space is just a centrifuge...add theming and a storyline...

This may be old tech for Science there is not much like it in other parks.

All I am saying is that I am just not impressed with another RollerCoaster built into a mountain. Maybe it will have something every other coaster doesnt besides a fake mountain but if it doesnt I will be dissapointed :(

How do you explain Body Wars and Star Tours...they have those simulators in local malls and they have for years...that my friend, was all theming and storyline.

A Technical Innovation isn't "ALWAYS" involved...Space Mountain is a simple coaster...themed very well. Splash Mountain is a flume ride...themed very well. I believe before they started Splash Mountain log flume rides were around...and I think before Space Mountain...rollercoasters were around. What's the technical innovation behind Kali?

As far as timing goes, having worked on steel high rise buildings (which this essentially is), don't get fooled by the speed with which the steel is erected. Steel is quick, it's one of it's advantages, but it's all the non-steel stuff that will make it a Disney ride, and that will take more time (As does as the non-steel stuff on a typical high rise).

How could you not like Splash Mountain?!

As for the ride, it will be be advanced in a technical aspect. It WILL have a switchback portion (forward and backward were mentioned in the press announcement) and don't forget that it will also snow inside the mountain. An advanced AA Yeti figure will be placed inside. It's not just a coaster either. It will take you through a few scenes before you even get up to the coaster part. Part of a new Asian villiage has been built, and much more of it is still to come. It's all about themeing.

Mission: Space gives the EXACT same feeling as the gravitron does...But does a gravitron make you think you are going into space? Disney has Boat Rides/ Dark Rides/ and Coasters (as far as actual "moving" attractions). Many other parks around the country have the exact same. What makes Disney better? The realism of being there. When you hear the little kids on MS say "ARE WE REALLY IN SPACE?!!!" theming is what made them think about that. It what makes Disney rides better, and different from anything else.

So, don't say that AK is putting up just a roller coaster...Six Flags puts up roller coasters...Disney puts up experiences.

Exactly!

(hehe...and if he doesn't like Space Mountain and Splash Mountain...what exactly in WDW DOES he like...those are classic Disney attractions  )

well, wdwfreak...

technical innovation:

Space mountain. First computer controlled roller coaster.

Splash Mountain. Tallest Flume drop. Log itself high tech in its rollers and protection for falling back. Lift mechanisms also rare.

Star Tours, Body wars. Those are not mall simulators my friend. Those are simulators the airlines/air force and military use. First use of this type of simulator for the public I believe.

And, thank you ISTCrew20...EE is to have the switchback technology...which, is a new technology for traversing a track in two directions and then switching off to another. New application of switch.

I've never been to Kali...but its in A.K. No comment. ;)

Walt Disney World - Animal Kingdom
Type:
Steel - Sit Down
Status:
Under Construction opening 2006
Builder:
Vekoma

Statistics

112'

Drop_(feet):

Speed_(mph):

Vehicles

Height_restriction:
Riders must be 42" or taller to ride.

Other Information

History:

This will become the largest ride in Walt Disney World at a Cost of $100 million (USD).

The ride will travel both forwards and backwards.

The height of the attraction is said to be nearly 200 feet. This is probably referring to the height of the mountain and not the height of the track contained within.

The Expedition Everest will be the first ride to use Vekoma's newest track system. Rather than the rails be on the inside of the ties, they will be on the outside. To date Vekoma has only used this system on their smaller roller coasters. This will be the first large scale installation of such a system.

The star tours and body wars simulators feel much better than other simulators. Have you ever been on a Vegas simulator? It is like, the worst thing ever. It doesn't move nearly as much. Also, Disney uses their animatronic Rex in the ride.

Those are TWO attractions I dont care for. I dont care if they are classics or not just not my cup o tea. I dont really like coasters and such. If I want coaster I will just drive an hour to Cedar Point but I have only been there once and hated it :)

I just have a problem with people complaining that there is nothing new being put into the parks but yet they get all excited when they put in another coaster with snow...that was my point.

This is just my opinon. There is NO need to get angry at me.

Thanks

I like the idea of "another" mountain roller coaster i just wish that they made this mountain bigger. So what if NASA would have to direct their shuttles around it. They should make it tall enough to be visible from Universal. I think there is only so much that can be done with rides technically that are obvious to riders. Sure, sitting or standing, forwards or backwards, up and down and upside down. We've all experienced this. But as for a switch that lets us reverse direction, don't we sort of do that on Maelstrom? And having the track on the inside of the tires for the first time on a large ride, well, are we really going to be able to notice that? The thing to me that sets Disney rides apart from other parks rides is the "total" experience, right down to the queue you stand in. I would have to say we should ride before we make judgements as to this being just another or lacking technology. It was my belief that the mountain "roller coaster" is only part of this ride. Lets see the total package and feel the whole experience before casting approvals or disappointments. I do question, does any of this matter? As soon as it opens, some will like it, some won't and we'll all start getting jacked on anticipating whats next, right? lol

Bud, I'm not angry  everyone's entitled to their opinions :)
I was only stating that those are two of the most recognized attractions that Disney has...and you don't care for them.

Taller than 200 feet? That would look absolutely ridiculous in the Animal Kingdom skyline. The mountain will already dwarf The Tree of Life by 60 feet, and anything over 200 feet needs a bright red light on top so planes don't fly into the building. It's going to be the tallest mountain in Florida, regardless (not a huge task, admittedly, but cool to point out)

it will be just under 200 feet... this is going to use the most forced perspective of any Disney attraction

Easy Navigator. Absolutely ridiculous? The Animal Kingdom skyline? The Animal Kingdom skyline is already ridiculous. Keeping it under 200 feet so they won't need a red light on top and so it won't dwarf that beautiful shade of plastic green in the middle of all the foliage? Well, I was thinking more along the lines of really making a statement with this attraction. Had no intentions of damaging the "skyline". As it stands now, you can drive right by AK and miss it. I really like how that mountain jumps out at me when I drive by Blizzard Beach. Or the tower at MGM or the ball at Epcot and soon to be mountains covering Soaring. Just hope in their efforts to not be ridiculous that the attraction looks like a mountain and not a dumping of concrete. The ride is called Everest which when you think of it, is kind of silly if it's appearence is not going to live up to it's name.
