The latter...I don't actually see a switch track on that model for where the track will switch to allow the train to go backwards (and a 2nd switch track to go back), so I'm thinking it's a rough guesstimate.

OrlandoRocks has just posted some new Everest photos. Pretty good progress from mkt's pics to those just posted on screamscape and orlandorocks in terms of new track installation.

My track design is from the Forbes magazine article in October where they showed the mountain in CAD 3D.

MKT and I were talking...from the looks of the attraction....in 3D in CAD (Disney's 4D software) there is no 'switchback' except very possibly in the end, where, conveniently, everything is covered up in the model.

OR as MKT was positing, just the trains themselves switch on an axis?

check out Lee's picture for a rough sample of the Forbes spread.

Everest Pics available ... but how?

If I have a picture on my C drive ... how do I get it on this page without first loading it to a web site?

I don't think you can my friend.

If you really want them up, you can email them to me or somebody, and I'll they'll post them for you if thats o.k. with you.

PM if you would like to do that with me.

P.

I don't particularly know how you could tell anything from that spread in Forbes. It just looks like a mass of metal with random pieces of track sticking out--a lot like the mountain in its current state, incidentally ;) But there has to be a switch track at the top of the mountain, we know that from the press release. "But suddenly the track ends in a gnarled mass of twisted metal and the thrills intensify as the train races both forward and backward through mountain caverns and icy canyons and guests head for an inevitable face-to-muzzle showdown with the mysterious yeti -- known to some as the abominable snowman." I'm not sure how the track could end without...ending :)

Right, then...

Believe me, that mountain says a lot, especially when you've got a copy of that article right in front of you.

Well, if we were to take the press release literally, I know exactly where it will happen (conveniently, that's the only part Disney covered up with mountain on the top right, and purple below where I thought the Yeti might be before you reminded me of the press release).

What I substituted (Because my program can't do switch tracks) is a bank to the left and rapid descent.

Should be a fun, imaginative ride.

edit: get a copy of the magazine. If you study it, you'll see two lift hills and a very fun ride.

It'll definitely be an awesome ride. I think Disney showed exactly as much of that ride in that spread as they wanted, and left out key parts quite on purpose. There has to be some surprises for us in 18 months or so ;)

I don't feel like starting a new thread for this, so since this is the most recent thread related to Everest here goes.

This is somewhat old news, but the video was new to me. I just came across a video on Channel 6 Orlando's webpage from the annoucement of Everest last year. In the short video it shows a portion of the press event as the Everest mountain backdrop rose and mountaineer Goofy appears. Also included is a short clip of Imagineer Joe Rhode at the press announcement explaining the attraction in his terms and how "We go fast, we go high, we fall far, we get cold and we do finally see the Yeti itself....a huge, HUGE gigantic gy creature as real as we can bring him to life". Its a brief glimpse into the press event held last year that I hadn't seen elsewhere.

Here is a link to that story and video:

That would mean it's actually somewhere around 150 feet tall. None of the roads I know of in the area are 140 feet tall, so if your car was maybe 120 feet below the top of the Tree of Life and its top lined up with the top of Everest, the mountain is some height higher than 140 feet, ~150 feet. ;)
