Personally I think we need a few more threads for Gran Fiesta. Right now we only have four. There should be at least seven currently running on the home page.

And then there is always Canada (my country's). We have an outdated movie that shows us skiing and playing hockey and all that winter crap. The CM's in our pavilion are all wearing lumber-jack jackets and they sell maple syrup and Eskimo stuff as Canadian souvenirs. Well I find it is odd that we are represented in that way and by those things, I'm not deeply offended or mad at Disney for it. I just feel that more effort could have been put into the Canadian showcase to show off our great country.

P.S. I can't remember the last time I saw a friend or family member (or anyone for that matter) even wear a lumber-jack jacket! Maybe in some 1980 era Canadian movies or something like that!

Haha yea. Up until a couple years ago that pavilion was the only Canada I've ever known. I was surprised that my image of Hockey players, Lumberjacks and Mounties desperately trying to sell their maple syrup wasn't all that accurate. You're right though, I've really enjoyed Canada the few times I've been, there's alot Disney could include.

:ROFLOL:Thank you for agreeing. I mean it is funny how much we Canadians actually know when it comes to the United States compared to what Americans actually know about us. To be fair, we are subjected to more American culture through our television programming and music and that than you guys would be of ours (trust me, that's a good thing:lol:). Of course I also live right across the border from Michigan and am married to an American, so I see more similarities between our two countries than some might.

Hoo boy, I just love people who judge a ride off a video. [End Sarcasm]

Seriously, you just simply cannot judge a attraction off a video. Your just not going to get the full effect, while quite frankly I know Disney can't please everyone. I'm shocked someone would write a complaint for a attraction they have not been on!

I will agree with other posters that your letter will go straight to the trash or on the "Funny Letters" board.

Even though I have not been on it yet, I can say it's given new life that the attraction seriously needed. El Rio was pratically a ghost town, while it did have some charm it was also tacky and in a serious need of a update.

Change can be good people, remember Walt was not opposed to changes. (Jungle Cruise is a good example of that.)

they got rid of that annoying market scene, I'm happy. :animwink: It wouldn't take much to improve on that nap break.:snore: :snore: :snore: Now, can we get rid of the video at the end of the Norway ride?:hammer:

I hope they don't get rid of the Norway movie...it's the only part of the attraction that truly represents Norway, if you ask me. The ride, as mentioned in another post, is basically trolls casting spells on you, a couple of cheap thrill drops, and an ending that really means nothing - a room filled with a giant oil platform. Is this supposed to represent present day Norway? Oil? What a sad comment. At least the movie shows the people and places of Norway. My only wish is that it were as long as the 360 films in the rest of World Showcase and that it had more narration to let us know where or what we're seeing.
As for El Rio Del Tiempo, while I never thought it was boring (Italy, Germany, Japan, Morocco, and the UK are boring because they have no attractions!), I did find the bartering scene more than a little uncomfortable. I'm glad to hear it is gone. And to the original poster, there was nothing really edu-taining about the original attraction. There may have been people dancing, but without some kind of explanation as to what they're doing and why, the cultural and historical significance of such scenes are pretty much lost. I'm not saying I didn't like them, I'm only saying I don't feel like I ever learned anything from El Rio Del Tiempo...except that I don't like been harassed by people on video screens. Frankly, this is one change to Epcot I am looking forward to seeing. I love "The Three Caballeros" and "Saludos Amigos" and the idea of using Donald, Panchito, and Jose actually makes sense in this case. I'd feel similarly if they used relevant characters in other countries, too. Mulan would be fine in China, for example. I can't say I'd want to see an attraction with Mushu in it, but Mulan is a legendary Chinese character, and therefore educational just by being there.
Okay, I just watched the video and I have only three qualms: one, the blinky IR cameras are annoying (this is a problem I noticed throughout Disney World when I was there in December. I know you can't see them with the naked eye, but they show up EVERYWHERE when videotaping); two, I miss the kids singing the "Hola mis amigos" song; and three, I always liked the puppets in the final scene, so I kind of miss them (that will pass). Otherwise, I like what they did. Too bad there aren't a few AAs of Donald and the gang in there, though.

To be honest, I find all of these threads, and the arguing within them humorous, because when the ride went down for the overhaul, either A) Nobody cared about the ride (or to some extent some people never even knew it exsisted, or had never bothered to ride it!) or B) Everyone who had ridden it loved it for the outdated over-the-top cheesiness. Now all of sudden everyone's coming out of the woodwork to rant and rave about a ride that's nothing more to begin with, then a comlimentary additon to the Mexico pavilion. People, please, breathe deep, count to ten, it's going to be OK. I promise!:)

epcot is to educate..
yes they should have had donald beheaded on top of the temple (ala apocalypto), tell it like it really is, its not disneyworld you know!

Some people utterly disgust me. You people are never happy with anything! They try to update what was an uninformative, but funny look at Mexican culture, and you just HAVE to complain about it. And no, they don't care about the letter you're sending them, its not like they are going to press delete on a keyboard, and BOOM - its gone.

Why is everyone so shocked?
There's always one person offended or angered by things like this who has to write Disney and say the change isn't what they wanted or liked.
It's a theme park for heavens sake. Get over it.
Someone ruined the ride by making kids laugh and smile? SHAME on them, and they did this at Disney World? They should be fired!

It's Disney World...nothing more should need to be said.

Grow up. Change happens daily. If you don't like the ride because you saw the video (perfect way to judge it) then when you go to Disney walk right by it.

Disney World is entertaining and educational. Try to enjoy it for what the parks were created for....FUN.

Was I the one to start the EPCOT being educational arguement??

The OP must cut Disney some slack. Do you really think that each pavillion is historically, geographically(with the exception of Mexico and Canada), and at times architectually inaccurate. Whether you found the video offense or not is your own opinion and not necesarily what Disney had in mind.

Or did they mean the ride to be a satirical story of the Mexican culture?:drevil:

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already but I really didn't feel like reading 5 pages of potential complaining. Possible solution:

Since MS now has green and orange, MAYBE we could convince WDI to do something similar: version 1, 3 cabs or version 2, original :lookaroun

Personaly, I like what I saw on the video and think they did a nice job. Sounds like I may be able to just stay on the boat and go round and round to keep watching it since people are so offended and are going to stay away. Now to find the hidden Mickeys :D

I seem to like the refurb from the looks of the video. The ride was old and in desparate need of a refurb. Everything in termss of technology was ancient in the old version.

Heading for the great escape.
Heres my tips for various world showcase improvements to make it real, Im sorry if you cant follow, well actually Im not.

1. Canada - make sure everything is non offensive and the ultimate display of PC, ban the use of the word aboot, have CMs discuss the square footage of their property, put all signs up in French only.
2. Norway -make it three times as expensive as the rest of World Showcase, have a movie discussing the Lapp issue, only 6ft + well fit females to be used as CMs.

3. UK - employ only Australians in the Rose and Crown, provide free dinning for single mums, make sure most of the buildings have been tagged, remove all wate bins and dont employ janitorial services. Increase prices and reduce standards of service.

4.France - blockade the bridge from the UK - burning any stroller that tries to cross loaded with presents. Have the staff go on strike, especially during peak holiday times. Make smoking compulsory, dont clean the loos or provide soap.

5. Italy- make it compulsotry to offer the CM a pay off for use of the attraction, close the attraction mid afternoon for a few hours. take out the fountains and put in a football pitch and have crowd riots as a new attraction, on special occassions riot police can batton charge guests.

Too funny. I especially like the Italy one. That would be culturaly accurate.

Wow, people take the idea of "Disney Magic" way too seriously if they believe it is possible to give a complete overview of any country's history in a three minute ride.

As a couple people have stated EPCOT is about entertainment and education. IMHO, I think the idea of World Showcase is to give people a glimpse into other cultures in a way they'll enjoy it and hopefully want to learn more.

Example-"Mom, what is that big building with a lot of steps that Donald was on in that picture?" "I think it's an Aztec pyramid, let's go talk to the CM in the Kidcot fun stop and ask him/her to tell us a little more about it."

My thoughts, as well. If you're looking for in depth history and sociological studies, go to a museum. If you go to a theme park, don't act shocked that you're getting more of a "teaser" or "sampler plate" of a country's culture. The medium IS the message.
