Welp. I reserved my first issue of Figment's new comic, I'll give a review; but, is there is a certain place for such to be posted here on the forums ? Or shall I just post my review here in this thread directly ?

Looks interesting. The preview samples of finished art look nice.

I am delighted the most however at seeing the alternative cover art, showing one of Andy Gaskills drawings of an early version of the characters.
This idea for a cover is a thoughtful nod to fans of the Original Attraction and know it*s backstory and history.

Versed *JII* fans are likely aware that Andy drew many of the earliest concept renderings of Dreamfinder and Figment in the late 1970s during development of the Original Attraction.

A sampling of his work from that time -

Just picked it up. Nice start. Aside from already starting to capture that feeling of that whole Little Nemo/Oz/Peter Pan era of fantasy stories, ended up getting a Meet the Robinsons vibe out of it in ways outside the Lewis/Lil Dreamfinder resemblance. Definitely leaves you hanging with the actual Journey into Imagination part starting at the end.

You know the only other route to go with Figment is now a days..........Dare I say..... a New show on Disney Junior....But, then again do we really need another Big Purple thing talking to Kids?

Ok guys I got the comic and I will only say this: I am struck dumb with amazement, the artwork for this storyline is simply beautiful. Figment's colors are direct from the ride, heck I hear his voice when Figment speaks, so amazingly lovelylu drawn. The story is good, I really like how Dreamfinder, known as Blair, came up with Figment, but as a memory of himself as a little boy, the inital ride opening tune one can hear when he speaks of "two tiny wings, two eyes big and yellow, horns of a steer..... " And I forget the rest of the inital ride start of creating Figment in the first place.

Just simply amazing.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I can say this: when I was reading it, I was happy and I was excited.
From a less nostalgic, more analytical viewpoint... I'm not sure yet. I need a little time, I think. Right now it's too (and I almost hate to use this word, but...) emotional.

The one thing I was most concerned about before reading it was the whole steam punk angle, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much it worked as a setting in that a.) it wasn't intrusive and made sense in the story (not just using it to "make it look cool"); and b.) it provides an excellent contrast to the whimsical Figment.

Did I feel like I was on the original ride again? No.

Did I hear the music in my head? Yes, for a page or two where, as said before there are direct quotes from One Little Spark.

Did I get that same feeling of "OMG" when meeting Figment in the turntable scene? No, but I still felt something.

Do I think this would be a good concept to base a re-imagined ride? Not really, but I seriously would consider it a great screen play for a major motion picture. I really do! It's that good.

I don't think I need to get into the quality of the illustrations, as previews are available online. Overall, it left me wanting to read the next issue immediately which is great! The theme here is most definitely Journey Into Imagination - just a more "adult" take on it if you will...? It's certainly not just for adults - it just seems more mature than how I remember the classic attraction, but then again, most of this issue was focused on the development of the Dreamfinder character.

Here is a article posted on the D23 website recently about the introduction of the comic.
Much of the art shown is images already shown elsewhere, but there are a couple of 'new' images -

https://d23.com/marvel-comics-figme...neering/?CMP=EMC-eml&att=20140612_D23_FanFare

A couple of things brought to light i found interesting while reading the above article.
First, the list of Imagineers noted as contributing do not include the ONE person you would assume would be the #1 guy to go to about this particular pair of characters and their history.
Yes, he may be a 'part time Advisor' now...but how could his imput on the subject matter be overlooked for a project like this?
I found that a bit disappointing.

Second, the hints dropped regarding the possibility of maybe making the comic stories into a feature film.
For ages fans have been talking about a film version of the 'Journey Into Imagination' concept showing a theatrical adventure with Dreamfinder & Figment.
In today's world of film making and state-of-the-art effects, it is now more possible then ever before to produce such a adventure.

Just found those two aspects of what is basically a marketing story interesting.
