Major News for Disney Parks This Wednesday

Even though I hate to say it because I work in public relations, Disney's PR department put a wonderful spin on what was announced. Nothing new really, except for the Cinderellabration. Oh well...

No real surprises in those announcements...especailly for Disneyland. Truthfully, I am sort of underwhelmed at what was announced. The park isn't really getting that much, especially since it is the 50th anniversary. I expected to see more announced about DL today other than what was already known.

I'm actually pleased with what DL is getting....assuming each thing is as grand as it could be....with the internet the way it is, nothing seems to ever be kept a secret anymore ....probably the biggest surprise is that they are in fact "decorating" the castle with jewels, gold accents and banners as it was believed that the castle would not be touched besides the night-time light show and a new paint job.

Looking at past celebrations....it does seem to be a little bigger than MK's 25th as DL will get two new attractions (one just a new and improved one), a new parade, castle decorations, a huge fireworks spectacular, and the one that is probably the most meanigful for the celebration of DL...a special exhibit of its history....I'm hoping it can be on the level of the One Man's Dream Exhibit at MGM in terms of amount of stuff and overall layout.

And don't forget....the Disney Magic is making a special 12 week run from an LA port as part of the big events, specifically for west-coasters and DL.

"spin spin spin spin spin spin all we do is spin, spin, spin"

too funny.

I was hoping lucky was for DCA...makes sense that AK is getting it.

IF they do it like they did in Tokyo, Cinderellabration should be pretty cool. Lotta characters, lights, great costumes, etc...

I'm glad we're getting it.

Well, it looks good! Cinderellabration caught me by surprise, but I'll definitely want to see that! I think I'll have to make use of my frequent flyer miles. ;)

As for that art of the castle... meh... I really don't care for that crown look. It's not as bad as the cake, but still.

No other real DL surprises... although I'd love to audition for Parade of Dreams next year. ;)

He's so lucky, he's a star
But he cry, cry, cries in his lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night.

That is one sorry-______ looking dinosaur...and only Disney would make him drag such a huge contraption! How much do you wanna bet there is an imagineer in there!

You can have him!

Hey, don't diss Lucky...have you seen him move around in person? He's incredibly impressive and a whole new league of audio-animatronics that can actually interact with guests and I guarentee you will be a huge hit. From his movements to his expressions...he is probably the most lifelike animatronic I've ever seen and you really do believe he is a real-life breathing animal in front of you. Yes, some of his motions are controlled by an outside source.....but otherwise he would be trampling over people since he still doesn't have a brain!. When seen moving, the cart that serves to balance him so he doesn't fall over (there is contradictory evidence that the "controller" is actually inside that cart....I doubt it because of limited vision) becomes almost nonexistent in the eyes of everyone around him. Trust me...its a treat to get him at WDW.

What about the reimagineering of Space Mtn DL? Has this been discussed before? I know it's down for an eternal rehab but I didn't realize they were changing anything.

Does anyone have any details on that?

Also, the link above didn't take me to an updated pic of the DL castle. Did I miss something?

I'm hoping that when people get on the new Space Mountain at DL they will see for themselves that this was more than just replacing the track....there is a lot of rumors, but I think when it reopens it will be like a whole new E-ticket for DL, but with a familiar theme.

Besides a brand-spanking new attractions for DL....I really don't know how much more one could expect for DL's 50th, given that what is planned is pulled off with no expense spared. And even without a brand new E-ticket, DL is getting a much improved version of Buzz and the "new" Space Mountain, which again is not just a rehab but sounds to be a whole new experience (although the track layout is expected to stay the same).

I think the most impressive thing is the worldwide scope of it...sure its really just a big marketing ploy, but what celebration like this isn't?

I understand some were hoping the big annoucement would be new attractions for WDW or DL....but let's be serious, I think we all knew that was not the "big" announcement.....the scope of the celebration though is...

As another little addition....there will be a Hong Kong Disneyland Preview center set up in Epcot (I presume in China)

Lucky??? More like Lugly!! When they mentioned Lucky, I was afraid that's what they were talking about. That Dinosaur better be more impressive in person.

Maybe in Earth Station, since it is empty now. The only space in China would be in the Circlevision theater, and that is a new film (unless they took out the Chinese clothing from the circlevision lobby.)
