5PM Update seems to be moving towards what the European model is thinking that this is going to hug the coast from Forth Lauderdale all the way up.

The thought is, IF Dorian continues to slow there is an approaching front from the west which will have a profound impact on it, likely forcing it north and east earlier and knocking it up and out and giving central Florida a glancing blow rather than a direct hit.

The European model seems to have heavily bought into this, radically changing from 36 hours ago where it was creating a monster in the gulf.

This is still subject to change of course and that models will be all over the place until about 48 hours prior to the event occurring.

Meaning it could have another "Irma" effect on Jacksonville. Major flooding.

For those who have been through this before, based on current projections, if it does hit Orlando, how early would MCO shut down on Monday? Considering moving my 7 pm flight earlier on Monday. Saw someone say 5 pm? That seems a little late given projections?

5 PM update has the storm making landfall Monday afternoon. The airport will close long before that, sometime Sunday I'd think.

Thanks. That's more along the lines of what I was thinking.

It will all depend on when tropical storm level winds reach Florida and how far they extend from the eye. I've heard starting Sunday.

If the current forecast is correct, MCO will be closed before 7pm on Monday. I would not count on any flight on Monday. At this time tomorrow, we will know a lot more, but I would bet that there are people changing Monday and Tuesday flight to Sunday right now.

My family and I are booked now to fly out of MCO to leave Florida on Saturday at 11am approx. Just hoping there won't be any issues with that... :/

Best wishes to everyone, hoping for the best.

One other thing to consider is that airlines may start to cancel flights prior to MCO closing.

I have a gut feeling that the current fear factor over this storm is far greater than what the final result will be.

Not saying people shouldn't take these things seriously nor be prepared, but I just have this feeling the anticipation over Dorian will be worse than actuality.

Assuming no catastrophic damage, in what timeframe would the airport likely be open? Would rescheduling a flight from Monday to Wednesday be too optimistic?

Someone mentioned that with Irma, MCO closed on September 9th and reopened in September 12th.
