I have a gut feeling that the current fear factor over this storm is far greater than what the final result will be.

Not saying people shouldn't take these things seriously nor be prepared, but I just have this feeling the anticipation over Dorian will be worse than actuality.

There are people making serious decisions on their vacation plans and doing storm prep. Your gut feelings should stay in your gut. Some of us have seen the horrible reality of the damage that one of these storms can produce.

Depends on what you mean. At WDW things will probably be tolerable at worst. Coastal areas don’t do well with cat 3 or 4 storms and this could come ashore as a 4.

For those on upcoming DCL cruises...

Disney Dream – Friday, August 30 - UPDATED
Based on our most recent conversations with ports in Florida, and to help our Guests better finalize their travel plans, we have decided to turn this cruise into a five-night sailing, departing as planned on Friday, August 30, with an expected return to Port Canaveral on Wednesday, September 4. Once the ship departs Port Canaveral tomorrow, it will keep a safe distance from the storm.
At this time, we anticipate Disney Dream will visit Cozumel, Mexico on Sunday, September 1. Current plans also include a stop on Tuesday, September 3 at Disney’s Castaway Cay, dependent on the storm’s path. We will continue to monitor weather forecasts throughout your sailing and adjust as needed.
Guests that do not want to sail on Friday, must call us at 866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032 by noon on Friday (tomorrow). Guests will then have until October 31, 2019 to choose a new sail date. They may change their reservation to a later date without incurring a change fee, though there may be a difference in price depending on the new sailing selected.
Disney Fantasy – Saturday, August 31
At this time, based on the current predicted storm timing and path, we do not anticipate any changes to the Disney Fantasy sailing on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Disney Dream – Monday, September 2 - NEW
Based on our most recent conversations with ports in Florida, and to help our Guests better finalize their travel plans, we have decided to turn this cruise into a two-night sailing, departing from Port Canaveral on Wednesday, September 4, with an expected return to Port Canaveral on Friday, September 6.
At this time, we anticipate Disney Dream will visit Disney’s Castaway Cay on Thursday, September 5, dependent on whether it is impacted by Hurricane Dorian.
Guests that choose to continue with this sailing will receive a 50% refund of your voyage fare and a $250 onboard credit per stateroom.
Guests that do not want to sail on Friday, must call us at 866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032 by noon on Sunday, September 1. Guests will then have until October 31, 2019 to choose a new sail date. They may change their reservation to a later date without incurring a change fee, though there may be a difference in price depending on the new sailing selected.

Wow. Since you're going that route, your snide remarks should stay to yourself.

I never once said people shouldn't alter their plans if they feel uncomfortable about safety or go conservative on their precautions. I was just voicing my personal opinion based on some of the forecast models.

Have a nice day.

I agree, and certainly feel for the people who live along the coast and have to deal with and monitor these stressful situations.

Hopefully this storm's bark ends up being worse than it's bite. Time will tell.

No, you just dismissed people's concerns about this storm and its impact as "far greater than what the final result will be" and "anticipation...will be worse than actuality".

Many of us on this thread have lived through Andrew, Charley, Wilma, Irma, Michael, etc.. We are justifiably worried. Please don't tell us we're being irrational.

I'll repost this part:
Not saying people shouldn't take these things seriously nor be prepared,

I said I have a "feeling" based on some of the things said on TWC and possible forecast models. I never said it's Biblical truth that the storm will dwindle or steer north. I never said people should neglect any precautions. I said what. I. personally. feel. will. happen.

Nobody's concerns are unwarranted, nor did I ever imply that.

Now please, stop attacking ME and let's discuss, you know, this storm. I'm trying to be optimistic and hope for the best.

The guy with glasses and a grey shirt on TWC right now.

Mentioned the possibility of the storm being much weaker by Sun and Mon. He's not saying that WILL happen, but could.

Hopefully @beertiki @AJH219 and @LAKid53 don't jump on him as if he insulted their first-born, like the treatment I got for voicing similar (but not certain) optimism.

Well, some of us have actual experience to base our what you referred to as "current fear factor" on...not our "gut feelimgs".

I'm sorry to say but The Weather Channel is no longer a truly reputable weather station. They've devolved into nothing more than glorified television anchors masquerading as experts. Perhaps the only one there who I would lend an ear to would be Dr. Greg Forbes.
No.
That's simply not true.
The Weather Channel uses the best weather predictive technology available on the Planet. You may not like the anchors, but you're not gonna get anything better outside of the NWS.
Although I'm sure there's plenty of Millennials who'll try to convince you some blogger operating out of his basement is better.

Yes, but meteorology is science. In science, we aren’t optimists. We are realists. This really could be bad and suggesting that people are overreacting isn’t helpful. And no one gives a damn what you THINK will happen. You’re (clearly) not a meteorologist. I also don’t care what my Target checkout clerk THINKS will happen with my blood pressure.

I generally find NWS and Accuweather to be more accurate. For example, when I go to Florida, weather.com might say “Thunderstorms 80%” as the day’s forecast. Accuweather will say “A mix of sun and clouds” and in the details say “1 hour of rain”. Accuweather is usually more on the mark.

For hurricane planning, NWS is second-to-none.

I'm sorta in shock this became an attack fest / argument over something so simple. Maybe I should've worded it as I hope it's not as bad as some models say. But, yeah, wow. I'm new here, and really wasn't trying to offend, and never would have imagined my comment doing such damage. Saying "fear factor" doesn't indicate people's concerns are unwarranted or out of touch. These things are very serious.

I'm gonna slowly step outta this conversation before some people turn me even more from optimist to Dorian fan than they have already.

People are asking for advice on how to adjust their travel plans and I give information based on reliable models, NHC forecasts, and NOAA. I was at Disney for Matthew and Irma, and have been through countless storms. For 30 years I have been tracking Hurricanes and the waves they generate. But, you have a feeling... People have very important decisions to make, and they should base them on reliable information and advice from those with experience. In a situation like this, your gut feelings offer no help to those asking for advice.

2 years ago I drove past 2 miles of refrigerators lined up on Rt 1, every fridge represents a house destroyed. There are still blue tarps on roofs.

But hey, you got a feeling

I agree in this case. When someone has “a feeling” there won’t be SWGE previews, it’s innocuous. Hurricanes kill people.
