Money has no demographic-agreed. And, yes, they are a for-profit company. They do that very well.
But the posters and commenters that expect Disney to somehow be responsible for how folks act in the parks is a ludicrous bunch. The ONLY role that the company plays in this IMHO is that because the place 'ain't cheap' folks figure they can do whatever they want "cuz I paid a load of money to get in and we're on vacation" and "Hey, they ain't hurtin nuthin, for what Disney charges, the kids can do whatever". Maybe it'd be different if the cost was less, but I doubt it.

Disney is aiming for the same target audience it always has- the American family. It's not the company's fault that people are like they are today. The same problems exist at every mass entertainment facility- movie theaters with phone crazy audiences, ballparks with an overwhelming number of drunks and folks at malls and shopping centers starting fights in increasing numbers. If anything, Disney does a pretty decent job of trying to keep folks civil. Twenty years ago, maybe even ten, it wasn't like that. Disney didn't 'break' the American family. We did it to ourselves as a whole.
That too, certainly. A double movement perhaps. American families being more...'expressive', shall we say, and WDW targeting an audience that sits lower on the cultural ladder than before.

Oh.

Large expanses of concrete.

Large light poles and fixtures blocking the view.

I hope it's nowhere near finished.

The viewing area will look better once the fake grass is in. And there is definitely a lot more planting and grass laying that needs to be done. But the positioning of those parade lights is baffling. Smack dab in the view of the FP+ viewing areas.

Just a general cultural societal problem. My kids are enjoying destroying the flowers, and I either don't care enough to stop them, or I think it's their right.

Not to get all too "hot opinion"ness on everyone, but this is the answer right here. "or I think it's their right."

People figure "hey, I'm paying $110 a day to be here, I'm gonna let my kids do that they want. What are they gonna do, kick you out?" You may think it depends on how much $110 is to that person. Our trip this year is clearing the $5k mark before food and paraphernalia. Our big family trips as kids cleared $18k-$20k. The point I'm making is that $110 isn't that much money in the scheme of all things Disney. It's not a factor. These parents would have the same mindset if the tickets were $10.

The real problem is that the parents don't have to have spent $110 to have this opinion. They just have to be there. There's no sense of right and wrong. No drawing upon morals. Entitlement will end us all my friend, entitlement will end us all.

I agree with everyone on people needing to treat the property with respect, as that is the right thing to do, especially if you love WDW! Keep it nice you know? I said a few pages back, that I saw a grown man trample flowers to take a picture on my most recent visit in January & I yelled at the guy for it...with all that said, Disneyland had a railing on their planter early on....this picture claims to be from 1960...so either they had it on opening day or people couldn't be respectful back then either..

Fair point... though, I'm still thinking the light poles are temporary, for workers.

I hope so too. Time to revisit the plans. Where did I put them...

I'd be surprised if those instruments up there (a few LED PAR cans and LED bars) are for work lighting, but looking at the installation I can't believe they wouldn't be temporary show lighting for the Hub until the project is complete. At the very worst, they're missing some type of dressing. The untreated metal junction box was the giveaway for me.

The plants won't go on the concrete floors though.

Nor remove the sightline intrusions.

Those concrete areas you're seeing are pathways, and they'll look quite different when filled up with people and 4 wheeled vehicles. (You'll be wishing for the open concrete again) I just hope the gardens don't become stroller parking lots during the day.

The gardens, per the sign, will be the FP+ viewing areas for the fireworks. I suspect this is where the rumored (?) astro turf will be added. If those areas between the paths were to be gardens of flowers wouldn't we see curbing on which the railings would be mounted? Oh well, it's only a matter of days before we see the real product. :D

Nothing to say about the sight lines. Disney didn't care about a zip-line from the castle to TL Terrace being viewable during the day to everyone ... they're not going to care about a few folks having a pole in their view.

Right. I don't expect them to look so mismatched if they DO end up staying.
