Main Street Electrical Parade Debut

I think it is wrong and misleading to advertise it as Main Street Electrical Parade than turn around and call it Disney's Electrical Parade. I would have had no problem if it was advertised as DEP all along but the MSEP seems to be used as a marketing gimmick. I think its misleading to a small extent and is a slap to long time fans who truly do treasure the original memories of the classic parade.

It was only ever called DEP in a park in California that had no Main Street. Changing a drum is not that extreme of a change. Years ago this would be expected and assumed. They continue to raise the prices, they market a whole campaign around the return of the parade and continue to call it by that name, even on the official sites? This is one inconvenience that they pay people to do as part of their normal job, why such a minor thing be an issue? There is time before June 6th to see what the do, but a part of me will be disappointed to see the parade back on a Main Street with the cheesy uncreative parade title from DCA while all the guide maps and websites advertise it with the classic name. With all the advertising and marketing for what this is getting, it is not unreasonable to expect the title float to reflect the actual name they continue to call it.

I don't mean to sound rude, or argumentative for that matter, but I mean, really? It's the same parade. They can call it "Phil's Light Parade" and it won't make any difference. I mean seriously, some you people really need to get over yourselves.

I agree with you 100% it's still the Electrical parade. Some people will find anything to complain about.

I don't mean to sound rude, or argumentative, but I am just as entitled to my opinion as you are yours. How someone feels about something is different than how someone else feels about the same thing. Message boards are designed to discuss topics posted, I rarely complain or post for that matter. If I choose to post my opinion on a topic that is my right. I think you are the one who needs to get over yourself.

I'm not going to down the "false advertising" route, but since the parade is coming back to the Magic Kingdom and once again doing it's route down Main Street....is it really that hard to change the face of the drum to say "Main Street Electrical Parade"?

It isn't about misleading people...hell, the average guest nowadays would be shocked not to see Harry Potter somewhere in the MSEP/DEP while they wonder why they can't get a fast pass for the Jurassic Park ride in Adventureland. :hammer:

It's about paying attention to details and doing the parade justice with it's proper name. The parade hasn't had the luxury of going down Disneyland's Main Street in over a decade, at least proclaim it to be the MSEP when it starts in June this summer at the MK's main street.

I doubt TDO will change the name of it. Will it affect it when I see the parade, no...I'll enjoy the sparkle of the new bulbs and refurbished floats, but it certainly would be nice to see the name and vocal intro as the MSEP versus "Disney's Electrical Parade".

It's not exactly a huge deal, but some might call it a "decline by degrees" or a simple detail of something that Disney would never overlook in the past, but doesn't see the need to address anymore. I mean, how hard would it be to change the lettering on that first float? In the whole scheme of things, it would take very little time and cost very little money. Disney is all about the details, right? So how could they overlook this one?

The other thing that I think people have an issue with is that MSEP does bring about a lot of nostalgia, bringing back a lot of memories of the Disney parks of the past. Nowadays, "Disney's" is slapped onto the beginning of practically everything the company does, and its meaning becomes much more corporate/soulless.

And after all this debate, who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and they will, in fact, change the lettering on the first float!

I completely agree with this. It's not about finding something to complain about, most of us here are thrilled to see this parade again. We just care about the details. No need to "get over" ourselves or anything else. :)

Count me among those who would be sorely disappointed with the name "Disney's Electrical Parade." I don't have a problem with it that way at California Adventure, I accept the reasoning behind it. But here... not just the drum, but the introduction, too, it'd be a major downer for me to see the parade, hear that booming electronic voice come on, and then announce Disney's Electrical Parade. It's just not anywhere near as exciting that way. There's just something about the cadence of "Main Street Electrical Parade" that is pitch perfect.

What I'm loving is how in advertising and such it's MSEP, but at the park it's going to be DEP... Sounds familiar though (Toy Story Midway Mania in park, Toy Story Mania out of park)

The merch is branded as DEP, yet advertised as MSEP :ROFLOL:

I was literally just listening to the original MSEP on my computer when I read this post....

Well, this is a change from the "It's not the same since it's not on Main St." comments I've been seeing for 9 years on DL boards. That never much bothered me either. Actually, I'd only seen it in DL/WDW from either the hub or back by the Revenge of Satan's Undead Dolls. It is set to return to DCA in 2012 according to miceage.

A bientot.

has anyone thought about calling or emailing Guest Relations to try and get a true answer as to *WHY* after months of advertising it as The *MAIN STREET* Electrical Parade, they've decided to they've decided to let the title float roll out as is,as if to say "HA HA!, We lied"

Use a familiar name to get them into the park, then they can call it whatever they want.
Either way, I'm going to miss Spectromagic. The music was SO much better.

Still praying for an extension through the holidays.

If by holidays you mean through 2012, you can stop praying. I would say you can expect the MSEP (really people can we get over the drum.....we are still 2 weeks away from it rolling out) through at least summer 2012 I would say!
