Charles Whitman? I believe that he had been trained by the USMC where every Marine is first and foremost a rifleman. And wasn't he finally shot and killed by a TX police officer, as opposed to a theme park guest who was "packing heat just in case"?
We might as well discuss Manson, Bundy, Gacy, Dahmler, Williams, Berkowitz, Black Dahlia, Green River, Boston Strangler, John Muhammad and a host of other miscreants. Throw in Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth, John Hinckley, Mark Chapman, and Charles J. Guiteau too.
Considering the millions upon millions of guns in the USA has there ever been a serial killer, a mass murderer or a terrorist who has been stopped by "a theme park guest who was packing heat "just in case" "?

Is there time for me to get in an anti-gun comment before the gun loving crowd join in and the Mom decides to shutter the thread? Seriously, the only thing better than today's incident would have been if it happened on Gay Days. Just think of all the locked threads.

And, seriously, the fact that this dude walks free and can head back to DAK in eight hours is absurd. Just imagine what COULD have happened. And this guy didn't think there was anything wrong with bringing his weapon and caring for it so nonchalantly? And we give him a license to carry (a license to kill in FL)?

God bless the USA!!!

Well, it's not a license to kill. It's a license to carry. And yeah, the guy was careless and it should result in a revocation of his license. You don't just "lose" a firearm.

But, it's not a license to kill. Just ask that dude in FL who shot that kid in a hoodie. (and that is the extent as to how political I'm going to get with this topic)

from reading the article i think it was just a sucky situation that he lost it and most people would have just brought it back to the car when he found out he had it but he prolly had kids that wanted to hurry and get into the park so he just kept it on him the only bad part is that someone else had to see it he's mostly likely not a criminal since he has his concealed weapons license but were all lucky a worse accident didnt happen

I am gonna get this in before the thread gets locked: America needs to grow up on many issues and guns are one of them. The Earp Bros. and Doc Holliday are not gonna head on down to the OK Corral to face up with the Clantons, the Indians are not gonna attack the wagon train, and "Judge Dredd" was just a movie (a horrible one, both times). And it has been proven beyond argument that the possession of a gun is much more likely to result in your death or the death of someone near and dear to you than it is to "protect" you from a criminal. Canada has a thriving hunting industry yet they manage to do that with some serious restrictions on gun ownership. Yet another lesson we could learn from our neighbors to the North.

Of course it's a license to kill. That is what all those people who LOVE guns want! They are all morons who think real life is like an Arnold Schwartzenegger movie and they will be Arnold.

They love metal objects, are stupid and think life is like a movie.

They should listen to more John Lennon and then we'd all be so much smarter AND have peace on Earth.

Did you learn nothing from the last thread?!

I dated the Homecoming Queen. Sadly all we did was date. The Sexual Revolution did not hit my hometown until I was well out of high school.

Also, simply saying that Guns dont belong at Disney World is NOT saying that you may not own a gun, Obama taking your guns, that youre a bad person for owning a gun or in any way infringing on the 2nd amendment.

It is simply a business owner who's clientel is largely children stating that they do not allow weapons of any sort on their private property.

If you find there's something wrong with not having guns around children, then you need to rethink your priorities.

That seems to be a facet of the debate that is missing whenever a "gun" discussion takes place. Modern societies have decided that there need to be restrictions in place for certain things. They may be objects (we don't let 8 year olds drive cars on the open road; we don't let those under 21 purchase a handgun), they may be activites (we don't let those same 8 year olds vote, we don't let 10 year olds drop out of school). We even place restrictions on what those reaching the age of majority may do (in keeping with our discussion, we don't allow anyone to enter a Federal building carrying a firearm).
A private entity has every right to set requirements and restrictions for utilizing their services and entering their premises (ie, no shirt, no shoes, no service), as long as certain laws are followed regarding discrimination that has been clearly set forth by Federal and various state laws.
If you are so concerned about your safety while visiting WDW that you feel the need to carry a firearm, a knife, a sword, a baseball bat, a hockey stick, a Taser, pepper spray and brass knuckles, then I suggest that you stay the heck home. And if you feel the need to wear Kevlar while at WDW, then I can suggest several good psychiatists in the Orlando area.
