What is everyone's take on this dining spot? Do people prefer breakfast or lunch/dinner? If so what do you get?

Silly me... I clicked on this thread expecting news and or rumors about my fav restaurant. :lookaroun:lookaroun

:lol::p

My husband I been there two times. The first time was the best experience because we were looking forward to trying the special stuff they have to offer the coffee is delicious if you like pressed coffee that is. You need to make reservations, if you go for breakfast especially and dinner. Its a long wait otherwise.

Both breakfast and dinner there are great. For breakfast I would put in my top 3 along with Whispering Canyon and Boma. They have the best coffee on property (100% kona press pot) and the macadamia pineapple pancakes are smack your grandma down good.

Atmosphere is not great...just an open area with tables adjacent to the Poly lobby, but for a fine breakfast or a nice no nonsense dinner, it is an accomodating spot.

For breakfast, many swear by the Tonga Toast or Macadamia Pineapple pancakes.

Dinner has a small but pleasant menu. More often than not, you get spillover from O'hana.

Lunch is also above average, and not usually crowded because most folks are out in the parks.

If I were to choose one meal, it would be breakfast.

They serve b-fast, lunch and dinner. Cuisine type is American and is A la carte. I am staring at my "Idiot's Guide to Walt Disney World" and will quote this..."This catch-all restaurant is nestled into a wing of the upper floor of the lobby in the Grand Ceremonial Hall. It serves a pretty predictable range of American entree selections, most with deceptive Hawaiian names. The dining area is very noisy and open to the crowds that tend to congregate in the lobby, so it isn't a great place if you want a quiet meal. The food is uninspired but prepared adequately well, so it serves as an excellent resource for resort guest. It's not a destination, but not a disappointment, either. "

I did go into the Poly in "07 looking for Christmas decorations and missed this spot. Someone on the threads has posted a great pic of an item in the Kona Cafe, it was very neat, I will try to find this next I visit!

Have had breakfast & lunch there and we like breakfast better, but that could be because we are usually in the parks at lunch time and don't always want to take the time to travel back. Same would go for dinner

We love breakfast-Tonga Toast, Big Kahuna platter, omelets, pancakes-you name it. The food is great and the service tends to be consistantly fast. If we arrived around 8:10-8:20-you could make rope drop at the MK in time.

Lunch is good as well. I had a chicken noodle bowl with a peanut sauce that was very good. The burger is basic-like the other table service restaurants, but good. The club sandwich is huge, but tends to sog out from the tomato.

Never had dinner here-too many other place to eat:slurp:

Heading for the great escape.
Yes like it but Im genetically programmed to have the Tonga Toast at the cheaper Captain Cooks.

Ate lunch and dinner in late Nov. Both meals were good but the sushi is better at the Calli grill.

I completely agree. And the tonga toast (French toast with banana inside) is awesome.

Kona is King!

No matter what meal you eat at the Kona Cafe you will leave full and very happy. The food is incredible! Breakfast gives you the fuel you will need (Tonga Toast & Kona Coffee:ROFLOL:) to energize you across a full day at the parks.

Dinner is Amazing. Every time I eat there it is my favorite meal of my trip. The Pineapple, Honey, Macadamia nut butter and fresh baked bread is enough to keep me coming back but all the rest of the menu items shine in their own right. The Sushi is as good as it gets at WDW. They have steak, seafood, chicken, pasta, & salad to appeal to all appetites but make sure that you leave room for desert. I am a fan of the Kona Cone. An enormous Ice Cream cone in a warm fresh baked waffle cone with cups of toppings topped off with a chocolate mickey mouse and cotton candy. Chocolate banana creme brule is a winner as well as the chocolate fondue with strawberry's pineapple & marshmallows.

The ambiance in the morning is great with the sunshine coming in through the huge windows in the lobby of the Polynesian and during dinner it is slightly dark which brings to your flashing glow cup to life and the smell of fresh baked waffle cones might be one of the most pleasing and appetizing smells anywhere on property.

Give this hidden gem a try and you will see what I mean.

We've only had dinner at Kona Cafe and loved it. I had the terriyaki steak and it was great. I really like the big desert selection.

Enjoy both breakfast and dinner here. We love the pineapple-macadamia nut pancakes for breakfast. For dinner we enjoy the coconut almond chicken but my mom swears by the teriyaki steak and I loved the pan-asian noodles.

I LOVE Kona! We go there for breakfast at least 2 or 3 times every time we are in WDW. My favorite breakfast is the Pineapple Macadamia Nut Pancakes. Sometimes I'll get the Tonga Toast for a change of pace. My husband loves the Big Kahuna. The Kona coffee press pot is worth the extra bucks... yummy!!! We are staying at the Polynesian this summer. I'm not quite sure how we'll resist eating there every day... of course, honestly, we just might eat there every morning!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! :animwink:
