I'm saying your premesis is false. People were not more respectful. This is recounted in the many notes of Disney's cleanliness and their efforts to keep things clean.

You're reading comprehension really does suck. I still haven't said anything about new being a problem. That is your own little delusion.
Wow, this is really nice. I guess when you can't come up with a well-reasoned rebuttal, you choose to use insults. I'm really impressed. Next thing I know you'll be calling me a doodie head! Impressive.

Guess what I see in the second picture? A trashcan on both sides of the bridge and neither one is full! Amazing.

I provide the pics, you all can draw your own conclusions! =D

I remember all those CM's walking around with broom and a dinglehopperthingywhateveryoucallit. Always on the lookout for all those smoking guests, who all simply threw their cigarette buds on the ground wherever they happened to walk.

I should know, I left WDW a million of those.... :lookarou

Yup. that was before the designated smoking areas where everyone smoked anywhere. But you have just proved the point: There were always street sweepers wandering the parks and keeping things neat and tidy, same with the bathrooms. The guests dressed up before going to Disney, but they ground there butts out everywhere.
Management just made sure the parks stayed clean and well maintained by having the staff required to perform these duties.

I still see street sweepers all the time.

But when you run the attendance numbers WDW does on a daily basis, looking for ways to be more efficient just makes sense.

Ok, so you're worried about all of the glitches that could come with the technology, or ability to maintain said technology. So you would rather not risk a more efficient process over what is currently there.
Got it. Thanks. I think I said that 3 pages ago.

I'm off to a Cub Scouts meeting. Have a wonderful night!
A glitch is minor and unforeseen. Sensors needing maintenance is not unforeseen and when they are the key to your solution their being faulty is not minor. So yes, you said it, but it still does not apply unless you are Humpty Dumpty.

I agree with you Disney does need to increase efficiency. However, if Disney announced they were increasing custodial staffing and implementing a "trash" phone line and sensors, I wouldn't think there was a problem. but it seems like Disney is implementing the sensor tech in lieu of having enough CM's to keep the parks clean.

Recently, I have only seen the street sweepers after a parade. They no longer just use a broom and dustpan, instead they use Zamboni type sweepers that are as noisy as leaf blowers. I know they are more efficient, but it plays havoc with the ability to suspend reality while you're enjoying the parks.

i still see plenty with a dustpan and broom.

sometimes, companies need to figure out how to do a better and more efficient job without increasing the workforce. This seems like one of those cases.

Someome says, "no, we can't budget you for more hours next year, but cleanliness is still a concern." So the response then becomes, "okay, we will come up with alternate solutions to become more efficient."

I see this sort of comment a lot. Yes, attendance numbers are much higher than they were back then. But doesn't that mean that they have a lot more admission money to hire more help with?

But if attendance has continued to grow, why would they be "unable" to add hours? I really don't get that.

Stuff costs more now than it did in the 80s. That and other factors I am sure. I don't have all of disney's data to answer that fully.

My only point was that looking for ways to become more efficient is a good thing.

Tickets cost a lot more now than they did in the 80's as well.

The company is also a lot larger than it was in the 80s with more responsibilities. Etc etc.

I don't have all the answers. Lol.

Just saying it is smart to become more efficient when you have an opportunity to do so.

No argument that efficiency is good. What we don't know is whether they are cutting fat or muscle lately.

So the reason I've encountered less than clean parks is because the CM's aren't doing their jobs? I don't know if I agree with that premise. I have friends who are CM's and they are saying that they are pretty overworked due to the cuts in staffing and the increased attendance. I'm sure there are some goof offs, that's true in every company.
Well believe it or not some cast members are Lazy. I personally caught more than one full timer sleeping in break rooms. One was found after a manager called a BOLO for the person. The crazy part about this however isn't that a few cast members are lazy but that the system is so finely tuned that when one or two people drop the ball it's like a house of cards. Now in most cases other cast can and do pick up the slack and from a guest perspective you may never notice but in some cases things fall through the cracks. The worst park for this is MK due to the longer working hours, older staff and Ridiculous crowds. MK is the one park that could truly use more custodial staff or a complete reorganization of the existing staff structure.

When I think of the problems at WDW, they are at MK. It seems that the park is ridiculously understaffed for the amount of guests it receives.

MK is run differently than the other 3 parks. A good way to describe it would be micro managed. It's also the only park at the moment to have a parade which throws everything into chaos every time there is one which is multiple times a day.

I know the FOF is a pretty big deal. Is the Move It, Shake It parade really that bit a deal?

It's easy to understand the P&R division has to show increasing profit EACH quarter even as attendance grows the easy way to do that is to cut staff.
