Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

Very few dinosaur fans are in the adult category anyway, so appealing to the kids is a wise choice for that area. Otherwise hardly anyone would set foot in it.
"Dinosaurs are just for kids?" How do I hit you through the computer screen?

That said, there's nothing wrong with the backstory elements brought in with Dinorama, the problem is the execution. By all means, an homage to cheesy roadside dinosaur attractions should be featured in Dinoland USA: Roadside goofiness is as American as a Bald Eagle carrying a machine gun and a cheeseburger in it's talons while wearing an American flag as a bandana.

But it just rings kinda hollow when it's applied to carnival rides that you almost never find at these sorts of things and the dinosaurs are clearly designed by Disney professionals and not having the crude wacky charm you find at those sort of places. Dinorama fails at being a good Disney attraction and a good homage to roadside attractions. And if Dinorama is meant to be for the kids, wouldn't it have been better if they had a family dark ride instead of Primeval Whirl?

I have a pin set of four pins one with the tree of life, one with the castle, one with Spaceship Earth and one with the Sorcerers Hat. I also have shot glasses with the same. How have I said the Chinese Theatre is the HS icon? I'm very confused. I put NOT the Chinese Theatre.

I have some souvenirs with the hat, includimg a four icon pin which has the hat. Maybe it will be worth something? I have no qualms.

Maybe new merch will include the theatre or Earful Tower. If I like the design I'll buy either one.

Prior to the hats installation the Earful Tower was used as the icon for MGM on merchandise.

its too bad its being demolished rather than relocated, would of been nice to see it moved to just outside the entrance of the park.

its still a cool icon, just in the wrong place.

Okay...last time I'll chime in...for tonight...

With a question...and forgive because I have no idea what the procedure is for demolition...

Will they take it down at night...or during the day? I know some construction/demo work is done when the parks are closed...others (Like Horizons...) done to the horror (or in my case
"entertainment") of guests' eyes during the day...and I know its a tight spot to work in given all the stuff around it...

Any ideas?

Please and thanks folks!

I didn't say, "Just for kids". Paleontologists and arrested development still enjoy exploring things like that.;) (I'm not talking about the purple, yellow horned type). However, it is still the kids that are super curious about the real thing and DinoLand is the closest they are going to get to the real thing, even if it is plastic. Dinorama will appeal mostly to kids and not adults. It is a place where kids can get some of the rides that they love and adults can absorb as part of the story.

P.S. If you do manage to "hit" me through the screen, be advised that I will hit you back with my American Flag draped machine gun. :joyfull:

But as a visitor from 2008 onwards the hat is all I know. I have many souvenirs with those icons on including the hat for HS not the Chinese Theatre so the company must have intended the hat to be symbol of HS until now. Personally I don't see what's so amazing about the Chinese Theatre to make me want to pose in front of it!

Ok...what?

The Chinese Theatre has never been the symbol of the park. The Earful Tower is. Because the park used to be a real working studio, it's layout was a bit different from other Disney parks.

Many studios have water towers, thus the park's symbol was located on the backlot where the working studio was.

The Chinese Theatre was a focal point, not the symbol.

The hat went up as a temporary installation in 2001, like the Epcot wand, budget issues prevented it from coming down a year after it was put up.

It is finally coming down.

As for what's so special about the Chinese Theatre, I'm floored by your statement as it is one of the most famous and iconic movie palaces in cinema's history where numerous films are premiered. Why wouldn't Imagineers choose that building to be a focal point for Hollywood Blvd?

Disney likes to have an icon for its merchandising, doesn't it? I am happy for the Chinese Theater to once again become the focal point when you enter the park. It will be interesting to see if the water tower once again becomes the icon especially since it is possible to visit the Studios Park, enjoy all the most popular attractions and never lay eyes on the tower.

To be fair, Sunset Blvd has always used this logo for its can and street signs.

I wonder if the sponsorship from TCM for Great Movie Ride had anything to do with the final demise of the hat. I am so glad to see it go.
