But as a visitor from 2008 onwards the hat is all I know. I have many souvenirs with those icons on including the hat for HS not the Chinese Theatre so the company must have intended the hat to be symbol of HS until now. Personally I don't see what's so amazing about the Chinese Theatre to make me want to pose in front of it!

There was no hat prior to 2001. It was a temporary decoration for a promotion in 2001 that overstayed it's welcome.

I must admit I'm a bit confused at the negative comments I've got from saying "I like the hat". I don't post on controversial or deep topics on here as I'm not a negative, argumentative person. I didn't realise this was one of those threads! I shall burn all my 'sorcerers hat' souvenirs immediately!!! :oops:

In 1996 I didn't mind the Cakestle all that much, mostly because I knew it was temporary and would be going away after a year or so. Yes, it was a bit over-the-top gaudy, but it was temporary.

I didn't mind the Wand when it first went up because it was supposed to be temporary for the Millennium Celebration and then come down. But then it over-stayed its welcome.

I didn't mind the Hat when it first went up, again because it was supposed to be temporary for the 100 Years of Magic celebration and then come down. I should have known better when it was being built and the Wand wasn't going anywhere. The Hat over-stayed its welcome.

Had either the Wand or the Hat only stayed for 16 months and then left, I doubt we'd be having as big of a debate over it as we are right now...

Are there any plans to put something in place of the Hat? They've had so many stage shows in front of it with temporary stages, will they maybe add some kind of permanent stage like in front of Cinderella Castle? Also is there any indication this will be finished before Star Wars Weekend, I imagine that will be a big deal this year with the new movie coming

I've been wondering this myself. With all of the purported changes coming, I am thinking a reimagining of this location may happen. Nobody has really hinted anything about though.

I do recall Spirit harping on how this change to DHA is a true retheming/re-skinning of this park. If there are going to be enhancements aside from Pixar/Star Wars, I wonder if this central location will be changed. Especially if there is going to be regular nighttime entertainment like fireworks.

What I honestly believe is that it is part of the story. It wasn't ever meant to be the same high quality that you are supposed to find in something that IS a Disney Theme Park. In this case, it is just in one. And to be a high quality production would not have fit the story. I guess no one other them myself can see that. Well, so be it. Fret if y'all must. It won't change anything.

dinoland.....I think its the worst land in disney world.....while they got the land to fit the story of being a tacky crappy side of the road fair, they had to do that by building a tacky crappy side of the road fair. Its a huge eyesore and looks especially terrible when it rains which happens in florida alot. I wish they would scrap the land and start fresh.

I compare it to doing impressions of someone. You can do really good impression of a mailman ( dinoland) and yeah good impression but its boring.....but if u do an impression of your perverted uncle joe and make jokes bout him being in jail all the time and then people laugh and have a good time......I mean I see what they were goin for, and they nailed it.......it doesnt take away from how crappy and ordinary it looks.

Well let's not forget Tarzan Rocks! That was such superb entertainment. It's hard to beat Roller Derby monkeys. It was the next best thing to having Hulk Hogan at the park.

Disney parks are supposed to be idealized versions of things though. Yes it most likely could be part of the story if in reality dinosaur bones were found in an area. But there are plenty of negative things omitted from lands in all the parks. If Main Street had all of its every single part of its story it would not exactly be a great place to be.

t the Chinese theater has never been the official icon of the park. That distinction goes to the Earful Tower. Those of us that are happy to see the BAH go are not necessarily wanting the theater as the icon. We don't really care what the icon is going to be. As long as #1) it fits with the environment the way the BAH never did, and #2) that it does not get placed right in front of the theater ruining the view as you walk down that street.
