Rumor Is Dreamfinder, the roving M&G, coming back to Epcot soon?

Why is TWDC unable to connect the dots here? If they take the merchandise cash cow and give it a state of the art attraction, that fan base will grow even bigger and give them even more money. It's like they don't care about Figment and Dreamfinder specifically because they are original characters that were created for Epcot. There's absolutely no way you can tell me Inside Out sells more merchandise, so I see zero justification for using that IP over Figment.

I didn’t see Inside Out coming into EPCOT yesterday.

The nope was in reference to a revamp happening.

I am by no means a Disney fan to the degree that some of you are here, if only for the fact that I never went to the parks in the 70s, 80s or 90s. 2009 was my first trip.

However, that being said, I have been very many time since then, and I have come to learn that there are some rides that should never be radically changed. Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Dumbo, It's a Small World, etc. These rides are true classics that should stay the same in story and purpose. Now, improved AAs, new artwork, theme improvements are fine and should be expected. But to radically alter the attractions themselves would be a mistake. To me, there are some legacy attractions that should NEVER change aside from refurbs, AA improvements, etc. And these types of rides don't only reside in the MK.

Epcot has them: SSE, LwtL, Imagination (for some, Horizons should still be on this list). These rides, from a story and intent standpoint, should remain forever as EPCOT Center classics. I have seen @marni1971 's video of the original Imagination and that ride was incredible. It should never have been changed. That ride, redesigned to it's original incarnation, would be incredible today with the technology that Imagineering has available to them. Personally, even though they most likely never will, they should restore this ride to what it was, and introduce Figment and Dreamfinder again as park IP. Chapek is interested in building up the S.E.A. presence in the parks, why not the original EPCOT Center IPs?

I couldn't decide which Dreamfinder I'd rather see roving. Then it occurred to me that I don't really "know" the new Dreamfinder.

And If Disney were to make a new attraction I'd be more inclined to go with a modern take on the character if only to keep Figment grounded (less zany) and to give Dreamfinder an open slate or canvas for the WDI team to concoct a new ride story.

That cheery fellow with the smarts of Einstein and the heart of Santa Claus is Classic yes, a pitch perfect companion to Figment if not a bit too perfect. We know that guy. I think it's time to meet the new Dreamfinder. Mark the beginning of a new chapter. I'm rooting for Dreamfinder 2.0.

Figment sells merch. Marketing him, IMO, doesn't mean anything towards the ride. I wish it did. I wish it meant something, I guess it could, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's a shame they want to use him to sell merchandise but can't spend the money to update the ride and that there's even doubt of a HOME GROWN IP not being used. Which sells merch. It just boggles my mind. Maybe they should have done a movie to tie into the comics, which, gee, sold well (for comics, I guess?).

I just don't get their resentment towards Figment when it sells merchandise and fans like the character, even in it's current incarnation.

I also think it's a load of you know what when people say kids won't care. A lot won't be aware of him, but their parents might be. Grandparents might be. It's called filling in the blanks and making your child aware. Why is there this insistance now that if they didn't watch it on Disney Junior it isn't "Disney"? (I'm exaggerating but still).

Can anyone answer a question for me? @Magic Feather @MisterPenguin @marni1971
Has a 3D movie featuring Figment ever been proposed to be developed for the movie theatre?

Yes, I've proposed it!!

For a company that's all about synergy they keep having glaring gaps in the strategy:

  • Get Disney Animation to create a 3D Figment short and attach it to a feature film and then show it in the Mind's Eye Theater
  • And how about an Oswald the Rabbit short, too?
  • And if they must, a Mickey short featuring Duffy? (Duffy 'comes to life' a la Toy Story when Mickey leaves the room)
  • Run The Muppet Show continuously on just about all Disney channels

I always wanted to see Dreamfinder return to form. 'Though if he brings Figment along I would of course expect some refined puppetry. We've progressed a good bit from the days of hand puppets. Killer routine in the videos but the tech is available to allow for more animation, controled by the performer or "off-stage". I would fully expect a routine between the performer and Figment. The biggest take away from this rumor is IMO the word "roving". I miss the roving characters and popup meet-n-greets. Need more or those!

I do look forward to seeing this if it happens!

They killed talking Mickey. You think they’re going to spend big money on a high tech dreamfinder and figment?

Easy! Don't direct your disgust at me. Nothing's ever dead. Doesn't everyone want to see the return of Dreamfinder? Am I not allowed to use my "imagination" and wish for a better Meet-n-Greet op? In the words of the late George Michael... gotta have faith!
