Imagination! Being Replaced w. Dr. Doof?

You know what I think would make for a great Imagination ride?

Theme the area to an "Imagination Expo" and make it like the work Walt did for the 1964 World's Fair. Colorful marquee, the works. Inside, the key speaker at this expo, is Dreamfinder thrilled to be back at Epcot with his friend Figment. A pre-show serves as a remake of the original scene with Dreamfinder on his flying ship, and when he mentions a need to get ideas to the Dreamport, the doors open to the loading area. Inside you find what at first seems like a dark ride, that Figment turns into a crazy ride, using similar technology to what is used at Crush's Coaster in DLP.

I'd ride that.

One of my friends is a Disney Ambassador, and he said top-execs were walking around Imagination! in Epcot the other day. He told me there is the potential for the Imagination! pavilion being re-vamped/re-done again to reflect Heinz Doofenschmirtz as the central figure of the ride- using both his elaborately bad "inators" and real education to provide a new ride opportunity for guests. At the end would be not only the hands-on area for people to try out his "inators" in a 3-d environment (think Toy Story Mania), but there would also be his Lab where you can purchase all different flavors of the drinks they are currently testing around World Showcase.

Anyone else have any more on this? I think It's brilliant if it is true. If I hear more from my friend, I'll be sure to send updates.

Okay, Lets all stop and take one large- deep breath here and think:

TWDC seems loathe to spend any money WHATSOEVER on attractions without having someone else pay for it (sponsors!).

Imagination doesn't have a sponsor at all. No rumors of any coming anytime soon.

Why on earth would we think that TWDC would spend a dime at Epcot when Imagination is good enough as it is in their eyes? Keeping the existing attraction open and maintained wouldnt cost them anything then it already does.

Since the beancounters have proven that they are fully in charge, what are people worried about? Not gonna happen. Just another blue sky thought that wont happen, much like the Monsters Inc door coaster, Night Kingdom, Avatar, Australia, or any of the 30+ 5th gates that have been designed.

Nothing to worry about, nothing to fret over.

why do we need to include "Phineas and Ferb" at all? i understand it's popular, and i'm a fan of the show. but i highly think that should not replace anything classic.

Because rather than coming up with unique attractions, we have to rely on basing them on existing properties as this company no longer has any imagination.

There's a certain level of irony at work....

I am so there.

If they take Figment out of Epcot I will be crushed!! Figment is one of my first childhood memories of Disney. Figment is TRUE Disney classic!! P&F is a GREAT show and I think they should get their own ride somewhere, but not in Epcot and not in Imagination! They need to redo the ride, yes, but bring back the Dreamfinder and bring it back to it's ORIGINAL state!

why is this thread still going? it's not going to happen.
Welcome to Disney forums... o_O

As for a permit for construction... these days that really doesn't mean much. It could be to replace the toilets in the restrooms out back for all we know. Maybe they'll continue the themed restroom idea and put some imagination into it. Though... if they did... then the restrooms would have a longer wait than the ride.

sadly i'm beginning to see that.
I don't know that I agree with that 100%. I think things have improved leaps and bounds over the past few years at Disney Parks all around. I know this is really about duplication across the parks but in the grand scheme, where there is duplication, it's not 100% exact duplication (in most cases). I'm not sure duplication equals lack of imagination either way though. When something is successful in any company in one of their locations they tend to try to continue that success at their other locations by duplicating the product/experience.

I think Phineas and Ferb would be a great fit. I also think Figment is a character that should be given something new. They will never turn Imagination back into what it once was so something new to keep him alive and well would be great. As for Captain EO they can replace that with John Carter and it would be an improvement. Captain EO was state of the art when it was released but now it is just sad. As talented as MJ was he does not belong in EPCOT. Stick him in DHS or send him to Cleveland in the Hall of Fame.

They can change the IP restrooms all they want...but they had better not change that wonderful original retro Imagination Music Loop in there !

No no no no !!

When you get off the ride and feel depressed, go visit the restrooms around the corner of the Imagination Pavillion and enjoy the wonderful original music from the past.

Yeah, maybe i am weird.....but hearing that music helps heal the wounds.

Just don*t start singing along...not in there....folks will look at you funny!

:D

On a more serious note...you know things are bad when you get more excited about hearing the music in the restroom then you do experiencing the actual attraction.

Tony Baxter was right....Imagination really does NOT work anymore !

If anything belongs in DHS it would be Phineas and Ferb.I'd say EO belongs more in EPCOT than P&F.

People we are talking about the imagination pavilion here. My wife has been to Epcot three times and didn't even know it existed. P&F makes this a headliner for my family. And don't talk about P&F's staying power because only the people on this forum even know who figment is.

I think this pretty much sums it up. It is about getting folks into the pavilion and nowadays folks are much less inclined to see something that is not in some way familiar to them. Most folks do no know who Fingment is and have never heard of Dreamfinder. I don't think a character overlay is necessary, but I definitely think it can be done well if the Imagineers are allowed to let their imaginations run with it and let's be honest, it drives attendance.
This is the Imagination pavilion, I want Imagineers to use their wait for it imaginations and come up with something completely new. Yes, the ride was great back in the day, but I don't find it very imaginative to recreate something. Give me some new imagination to blow my socks off. They need to use new technologies to inspire new generations.
Whether it's brand new characters, Figment &/or Dreamfinder, or some other already existing characters I would love to see the entire pavilion scraped and reimagined from scratch to give us something truly imaginative.
