How WDW Co. spins ...

Just a Spirited Quickee (because they're the best kind!) ... but a kind friend informed me that the real cap of this event is not the 3,000 number being tossed about on the 'net, but 8,000 per night.

Oh, and phones are not exactly running off the hook to book this EXTRA SPECIAL AMAZING UNIQUE MAGIC either.

If they want tickets to sell, they should serve booze. That's the only way I'd buy a ticket.

Oh yes it can, Look at the article in MiceChat about the Shanghai Surprise, It stated EXPLICITLY that the cutbacks in the US parks were to 'paper over' their words not mine the financial impact of the Shanghai Problems in the Q2 results. In the world of Wall St it's not gonna take long for the blind squrrells to find the nut.

It's gonna turn ugly real fast for Iger and company because everyone is NOTICING the cutbacks in the US parks and if business is so good why are they cutting back. All it's gonnna take is for ONE analyst to have a 'Less than MAGICal experience' at WDW or DL and it's GAME OVER for TWDC.

I have lots to say (shocking!) about that Micechat article. Just no damn time ... But while not 100% accurate, they largely nailed it. So what if it was a bit late. What astounds me (or doesn't) is the largely accepting nature of this. While #ThanksShanghai is cute, it isn't accomplishing a damn thing. Calling the head of Food and Beverage for say DL or the MK and ripping price increases or staffing or peppering Phil Holmes about the fact he is VP over a park about nothing (can we start an Internet campaign calling that park the Seinfeld park?) might get you further ... at the very least, it will get Disney to hate me even more and don't y'all want that?

That's still not a bad number, but not exactly walk-off/walk-on e-ticket rides territory.

You also don't have things like candy stations, cookie stations, parades, dance parties, etc. to distract folks from riding rides. It's pretty much: You've paid $150 to ride rides - as has everyone else.

I think it might possibly be worse than an event like MNSSHP or MVMCP with regards to riding rides even with fewer people allowed in.

Ok, I don't get this.

An attraction like Peter Pan's Flight has a capacity of roughly 1000 people per hour.

So, in a 3-hour event, Disney is expecting 'Guests' to pay $150 so that less than half get to ride it?

I guess Disney is counting on 'Guests' spending most of those 3 hours walking between attractions, not actually riding them! :banghead:

I bet obscene gestures are actually flying rather than actual reservation calls. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

You don't have kids do you? WDW busy times revolve around kids being out of school. No you can't just pull your kids out of public school and go to WDW. Private schools are different.

No you can't, schools have gotten very draconian about attendance. I got really sick in high school and missed a week and a half and despite working things out with my principals and what not still got letters from the superintendent. I responded with a copy of my 4.0 transcript. I always say that perfect attendance is participation trophy of education.

Now, dinner starts at the Crystal Palace at 11:30 in the morning ... at dinner prices. And there are vast periods where you can't use your discount. And you have surcharges and higher prices across the board.

For the past two years, I was able to use my TiW discount at Ohana and Chefs de Frances during the "additional blackout weeks" in March. Whether it was an oversight or blatant neglect of rules....the discount was applied. I was glad.

Add onto that that arguably your children could learn more visiting a theme park than a generic week in school.

As previously documented in the thread, not true. Kids indeed go on vacation during the school year. It actually isn't as bad as missing for illness, as the absence (and assigned work) can be scheduled in advance.

Schools get federal money based on butts in seats at the schools so the new attendance policies make sense as the schools want to maximize that sweet sweet 'free' money from uncle sugar.

Look, The CCP played Iger and TWDC like a violin, The whole Shanghai project is in effect a 'Technology Transfer' in how to build and operate a theme park. The Chinese don't want Disney and Universal running their theme parks the CCP wants to do it so they hired Disney but in reality they are recording and logging EVERYTHING so in a few years both TWDC and UNI will get the boot from the Chinese theme parks and they will be operated by Chinese companies.
There is no need to sucker Disney and Universal. The people are all for hire and many vendors already manufacture in China. There is no need for or benefit from your silly fantasy.

I think the grants you are referring to are for chronic absentee issues. This is done as an attempt to get the states to take a more proactive approach to kids who regularly miss school. I don't think pulling a kid for a week (or less) to go on a family vacation would factor into this. I think each state was free to define truancy in their own way so there is no federal mandate, but it's more than missing a few days or even a week. As I said many posts back, each state and even school district within the state will have their own different rules so everyone's experience is going to be different on whether it's acceptable to do or not. Even at the same school different teachers may have very different opinions on the issue.
