How WDW Co. spins ...

If someone is savvy, "Thanks Shanghai" would be a great t-shirt. Maybe with a portion of the proceeds going to a charitable organization that supports low income families.

I know I'd wear mine to every Shareholders Meeting.
Best I could do on short notice.

Hoping for Shanghai to crash and burn is stupidly short sighted. Sure Iger will hide his tail and run - but you can kiss any remote chance of a renaissance at WDW for the next decade goodbye.

I hope it's successful and the division as a whole can move forward beyond this mess.

That statement if I'm reading it correctly. Shanghai(fails) - WDW gets nothing. Shanghai(passes) - WDW gets nothing?

Yeah that's what some on here claim basically hope for the best so we can be "lucky" enough. The board and shareholders need to see the REAL problem and it's not shanghai technically it's not cuts technically it's who is pulling the strings.

Scary thought but I would not be shocked if it ever happen. Let the park open, see how it does, once it gains stable footing throw the rug from under Disney and send them home. I would like to think that it would not happen but there has been crazier things take place.

Things like that happen all the time in China to minority western 'partners' just ask Fellowes (the shredder people) about their experiences

But if it fails spectacularly (as in, that missing $800 mil turns out to be a bribe paid out to Chinese government officials resulting in the Weatherman having to cash in his 'points' for a nice stay at Club Fed) - maybe we'll get a new CEO who does a 180 and reinstates quality first and premium value to match the price point.

Look, The CCP played Iger and TWDC like a violin, The whole Shanghai project is in effect a 'Technology Transfer' in how to build and operate a theme park. The Chinese don't want Disney and Universal running their theme parks the CCP wants to do it so they hired Disney but in reality they are recording and logging EVERYTHING so in a few years both TWDC and UNI will get the boot from the Chinese theme parks and they will be operated by Chinese companies.

He'd better put in his request for a pardon now. It's unlikely the next administration of either stripe will be as flexible as the current one.

They should build a wall. I hear that helps with these sort of things.

Crash and Burn in Shanghai is actually a best case scenario for TWDC as it would enable new management to take over who are hopefully more creatively oriented and realize that US P&R is the crown jewel and the best advertising and brand advocacy the company has. It would also allow things like ESPN to be respun into a more sustainable model going forward.

Yup. I was thinking yesterday of the last Easter I spent at WDW. It was either 2003 or 2004. We dined at a special brunch offered at Spoodles. Not only was it reasonably priced, not only was there no 'holiday gouging surcharge' added, but I was allowed to get my 20% DDE (now TiW) discount on the meal. That was Disney exceeding expectations. Now?

Now, dinner starts at the Crystal Palace at 11:30 in the morning ... at dinner prices. And there are vast periods where you can't use your discount. And you have surcharges and higher prices across the board.

Yesterday's Disney could have mistreated their customers too, but they knew they shouldn't and they didn't.
SPOODLES? What is Spoodles, precious?

Just a Spirited Quickee (because they're the best kind!) ... but a kind friend informed me that the real cap of this event is not the 3,000 number being tossed about on the 'net, but 8,000 per night.

Oh, and phones are not exactly running off the hook to book this EXTRA SPECIAL AMAZING UNIQUE MAGIC either.

That's still not a bad number, but not exactly walk-off/walk-on e-ticket rides territory.
